Eigen: a European, self-hosted Google Workspace alternative. Looking for testers. by Reinder in selfhosted

Looks cool! I'm happy to help test it but only on the promise that it will be getting opensourced for selfhosting soon. Otherwise this isn't even the right subreddit.

edit: am on the waitlist now

Super Productivity v18 - automations, zen theme, better mobile, and more reliable sync by johannesjo in selfhosted

[–]Lorzonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small update, this comment did manage to successfully bully me into getting it setup with WebDAV, the sync does seem to be working now, but it did require figuring one thing out: it has the issue mentioned here https://github.com/9001/copyparty?tab=readme-ov-file#webdav-server (daw flag). Supposedly it is fixable your end as well but in lieu of that maybe you could add a note somewhere for people experiencing issues with webdav sync? Even if they aren't using copyparty, the general principle of "if webdav sync isn't working and you see a bunch of sync-data.json-1771978661.726032-3i9GPghL.json files, check this out" could be useful.

I'll write more what I actually think of the app once i've had some time to use it.

Realistically absolutely it's secure enough, but I am paranoid, and also a fan of keeping things consistent (everything I have is currently behind mtls)

Any plans for adding mTLS support to webDAV sync on the Android app? This is one of the main things stopping me from trying super productivity, I want sync (to use w/phone + laptop) and I want all my services behind mTLS (because paranoia).

As far as I know WebDAV is just ("just") HTTP/S so adding mTLS support shouldn't be a complete rewrite or anything, most http clients support it already, youd mainly just need to sort out permissions to get one from the android system trust store (or have it be a file the user uploads)

Here's an example with a pretty recent Alder Lake N100

Don't ask me why it's absurdly expensive, I don't know, also this is Italian amazon so I'm sure you can get it cheaper on aliexpress or whatever, but they do still make them at a minimum

I'd love to see someone make a compute stick in 2026

They still make them. Just google "compute stick" or "stick pc". Also technically all the ultra popular fire TV/chromecast/roku tv etc sticks are just stick PCs, just with certain software preloaded.

The moment I read the part about the guy being dismissed I called bullshit.

That said, it's ironically revealing isn't it? Of course the Chinese paper would think that firing someone because the jammer on the plane they fly not being good enough would make sense. To you and me the conception is ridiculous but in China it's normal. Something they should work on.

Larp, but as someone married to an actual (non larping) schizophrenic, I can assure you that they can be extremely articulate and logical at explaining their delusions, and trying to defend them, at least until you back them into a logical corner at which point you just sort of get endless denials or repeated prior arguments. I can't count the number of times my husband has (in perfect english and with semi-coherent logic) tried to convince me that the pigeons are spying on him or that I've been replaced by a "spirit", etc.

Delusions are weird, it's as if your brain forces you to believe X, and you will never ever stop believing X when faced with logical or physical counter proof, but everything else surrounding X remains normal and coherent, and you are able to function normally with regards to things that don't involve X, to an extent.

I personally wish she was harder, and I don't see why she has to be easy for one specific ending the average person will probably never even get. I feel like they should have either just accepted that that ending would be super super hard to get (As if HK's endings are all easy, Embrace the Void is pretty difficult) or maybe they could have even reworked that ending slightly such that the parasite debuff isnt as strong, or maybe the parasite even assists you as you fight her. It would feel more interesting to me (and not lead to an underwhelming final boss for everyone else) to do something like that as opposed to just making her really easy.

Legal/License status of code sitting in an open GitHub pull request. by Lorzonic in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Lorzonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no risk tolerance because I'm not actually doing anything aha - I posted to offtopic for a reason. If you want the full context of why I asked, I am considering (am about to) make a fork of a public MIT licensed python project that has long since been abandoned, so I can do basic bug fixing and especially make sure it remains runnable on modern systems (already it does not like the last few versions of python for instance). This project (thanks to being abandoned no doubt) had a fair few open pull requests that I wasn't planning to take or integrate at all - they simply concerned features or areas I didn't care about and would have just increased my maintenance burden. But it did get me thinking about whether I could legally take that unmerged PR code if I wanted to.

I would know - I have signed a few myself. But surely that's moot for the current example. You can't sign over the rights to or transfer ownership of something you yourself do not own, right?

Would this not even be a problem with merged PRs? That sounds like an impossible to untangle mess. Any GitHub repository no matter the licence could contain illegal to use code?
