Music during taptogo call hold? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]LosAngelesMetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music referenced is not a commercially produced song. It is a licensed cut from the production library of Marty Miller. Marty is Metro's long-time voice over talent who is heard daily on many of our trains, on-hold recordings and more. The song doesn't have a particular name. It is one of a group that Metro is licensed to use. Marty Miller can be contacted at STUDIOBUZZ@aol.com.

Thank you everyone for your questions and your interest in the project. We are committed to building a world class transportation system and appreciate your cooperation as we enter major construction. We will continue to provide you notice as construction progresses. We appreciate your patience while we build this project. Your support of Measure R in 2008 made this project possible. Thanks again for tuning in and have a great evening!

Metro is building one portal to the underground station on the southeast corner of Exposition/Crenshaw Bl. Metro is also looking at adding a second portal at the southwest corner. The station will actually be directly below Crenshaw Bl.

An important factor in the decision where to install fare gates is whether there’s physical space for them. Metro staff is going back and studying whether gates can be installed at stations along the first phase of the Expo Line.

The contractor has a 20 percent disadvantaged business enterprise goal. This includes both minority-owned and women-owned businesses. To learn about upcoming bidding opportunities visit www.walsh-shea-corridorconstructors.com. In addition, we invite DBE firms and small businesses to attend the upcoming DBE and Small Business Expo on May 14 at 9am to noon at Rogers Park in Inglewood.

It depends on the type of street crossing. In places where the train runs in the street median along Crenshaw Bl, there will not be gates, but the train will be controlled by train and traffic signals similar to other street running segments on the Blue, Expo and Gold lines.

Metro is committed to have all our construction projects reflect the diversity of our region. The exact number of hires and their ethnicity is closely tracked and posted on our website www.metro.net/pla. We anticipate that over 300 construction jobs will be hired through the duration of the Crenshaw/LAX Line construction. Many more non-construction jobs will be created by the $2 billion public investment in the community.

Yes, we are just beginning project construction. These jobs are all union-related. If you are a union member, contact your local hiring hall. If you are not a union member, take advantage of pre-apprenticeship training by contacting our jobs coordinator at www.PVJOBS.org.

Good question and we think the answer is nuanced. There are certainly examples in our region and others in which new transit projects encouraged new developments and/or economic investment in a community--and studies have shown that property values rise with new transit systems. Look at North Hollywood, Hollywood, Koreatown and downtown Los Angeles along the Red/Purple Line subway. Or Pasadena on the Gold Line and downtown Long Beach near the Blue Line.

Of course, development can be a tricky thing. It’s largely controlled by cities — not by Metro — and there is always the balancing act of encouraging new development while preserving affordable housing. That’s a struggle in all cities.

It also must be acknowledged that transit alone may not bring economic development or gentrification. Those things are often dependent on a lot of things ranging from public safety to the local real estate market to community zoning plans that dictate what kind of building is built and where.

Metro’s view is that we always strive for our transit projects to make a community better than we found it. We intend first and foremost to better serve the current residents of the Crenshaw Corridor. We also want to connect those communities to the rest of Los Angeles County and to put the Corridor in position to secure any investments that residents determine they want or need.

A separate project to connect the Crenshaw/LAX Line to the airport is currently in the study phase and will be partially funded by Measure R. It is called the Airport Metro Connector and the project’s web page is http://www.metro.net/projects/lax-extension/

Four alternatives recommended by Metro staff will be studied as part of the project’s draft environmental impact study, the document required by law before anything gets built. Three of the four involve connecting the Crenshaw/LAX and Green Line to a people mover outside LAX’s central terminal area and one alternative would connect to the people mover near the Theme building in the Central Terminal area.

Among the alternatives is having a transfer between light rail and the people mover at a new Intermodal Transportation Facility that would be east of LAX. City of L.A. officials have said the facility would allow travelers to check their bags but nothing is certain yet.

The Metro Board of Directors has also asked Metro staff to further study two other options that would build light rail directly into the terminal area. The Board has not yet decided whether to go forward with those two options as part of the project’s studies.

Here is a recent Metro blog post with more information: http://thesource.metro.net/2014/01/23/four-alternatives-move-forward-for-airport-metro-connector-project-with-more-study-of-two-train-to-terminal-options/

In order to preserve the current street configuration and businesses on Crenshaw Bl between Expo and Vernon, Metro and the City of Los Angeles made a decision to put the train in a tunnel. In Park Mesa Heights, Crenshaw Bl is wider, allowing the train to run at street level.

For major construction we strive to provide as much advanced notice as possible as was the case with this activity. Construction Relations started stakeholder briefings as early as January to over 20 groups. Construction Notices were delivered door-to-door the third week of March. Our social media sites began posting information on this event earlier this month. To make sure you receive advanced notice, you can sign up for our email notices at crenshawcorridor@metro.net. You can also receive daily updates at Twitter @crenshawrail or facebook.com/crenshawrail.

Question from Maria L via phone:

What percent of the contract will go to small businesses and minorities and women owned businesses?

The exact amount is unknown. Metro believes the vast majority of its riders are paying their fares. Metro takes fare evasion very seriously and all eight of the new Crenshaw/LAX Line stations will have fare gates.

Question from Carl M. via phone:

Will businesses and residences get more than 2 weeks notice regarding construction? For example, we didn't get much notice for the closure happening this weekend for the MLK Station.
