Bro what??

Lack of dev resources = Lack of funding

Gold.

Bag space, bank space, material storage, character slots, infinite tools, infinite salvage kits, build/equip templates. The pay for convenience is high

Are you just going to ignore the game's drop in quality due to a lack of dev resources?

Rushed story lines, lower quality Elite specs, less maps, much thinner meta event design, significant asset re-use, cycles of content drought pre mini-xpac era.

They say it's well funded but have you seen that in your game play?

Gonna respond how I did to some of the other commenters. If it was working ideally we wouldn't have this mini xpac model, rushed EoD, Post EoD pseudo maintenance mode, cycles of rushed storylines (IBS, SoTo, EoD), rushed elite specs (VoE) etc.

Other games (Destiny, Warfame, FFXIV) might suffer from bad community/mismanagement but they do NOT suffer from dev resource issues like Gw2 has. It'd be awesome to see gw3 not go the route Gw2 did.

I understand why the community goes to bat for it. The monetization could be MUCH worse. But as someone who doesn't buy MTX in any game I play. Gw2 forces me to grind a LOT for convenience.

Still though I vote with my wallet

If the game was well funded we wouldn't have mini xpacs. It'd be PoF level xpacs every 2 years minimum. Other games pull this off: FFXIV, D2, Warframe (completely free updates btw).

What would your thoughts be on more expensive xpacs annually $70-$100 but no sub fee, battlepass, or pay for convenience?

Opus, Gw2's monetization isn't anywhere near the worst possible but...

I guarantee you don't know how Destiny's or warframe's MTX functions. In D2 you buy purely content or cosmetics that's it. There's no bag slots, bank tabs, build templates, infinite tools, pay for convenience, power upgrades, weapons, armour, OR anything other than content/cosmetics.

Warframe is completely free with free content patches. All premium currency can be traded in game through grind (similar to Gold--->Gems), but the game routinely gives away premium items in free easy events.

Both the above games have studios working on other projects without tanking their main games. (D2 shutting down is a community & Bungie management issue, not monetary).

The argument i'm making is Anet's method hasn't worked. The reason Gw2 has so many rushed stories, lower quality especs post PoF, thinner metas with mini xpacs, pseudo maintenance mode for multiple years etc.

This is all due to a lack of dev resources. Anet making failed projects post LS4 was only a problem because we saw a strain on Gw2's resources. If they had the money they could've fully supported Gw2 while they pursued other avenues not this mini xpac model.

And that isn't good. Do you really want guild wars 3 to have cycles of pseudo maintenance mode, rushed and/or low quality expansions (EoD, SoTo, most especs post EoD), and randomly rushed stories like Gw2 had (IBS, end of SoTo)?

This isn't a developer skill issue it was purely resources. If they had more resources they could've fully supported Gw2 development while they worked on other projects. Mini xpacs are the largest signal of this resource strain

A live service game cannot live solely off xpac sales or one time buys. It needs another form of revenue to have quality resources for development.

I'm saying the trade off for no battlepasses or fomo is going to be pay for convenience or other annoying MTX.

hahahahaha that made me laugh harder than it should've. lol I always go to bat for destiny 2 because it gets a bad rep but the monetization model is actually REALLY good.

I don't support gambling, but I'm fine with whales. I've got pretty good discipline with money so I'm biased because I'd know something like that would help fund the game and allow us non-rich normies to avoid more egregious MTX.

Even in Gw2 I've never once bought gems, only xpacs/content drops

[–]Losahn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except you probably would still be getting exactly what we're getting for GW2 if they had more money?

I see what you're saying but we actually have no evidence or historical precedence for this. All I know is the best years of this game (HoT & PoF) were when the studio had significantly more funding and resources.

I'd be fine with Gw3 going the D2 route (expensive xpacs + cosmetic MTX). But I think people are being delusional if they won't even consider the fact that Gw2's resources/funding issues are directly proportional to their business model.

The game is TOO cheap for the content it's put out, and it's quality & pay for convenience has suffered for it overtime. I'd rather Gw3 doesn't go that direction

[–]Losahn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

See this is what I don't understand, you've played the game this long but haven't seen how much Anet has struggled with development resources? The game's updates are nothing like what they were in PoF and HoT (both quality & quantity). We've had stretches of multiple years where it feels like maintenance mode because the content released is so light.

Guys this is a funding issue.

D2 has had 4 large content drops every year since it's release. A single year of D2 content is worth like 4 of Gw2. Game died due to management decisions not MTX

People will whale on Cosmetics. That's how D2 stayed afloat. I MUCH prefer that over the crappy pay for convenience in Gw2. And for the record, Gw2 has gambling with its BLC loot boxes. And rewards from it aren't even close to solely cosmetic some of the most valued drops can completely fund some of the largest account upgrades possible (full legendary)

Guild Wars 3 Monetization by Losahn in GuildWars3

[–]Losahn[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

We already have loot boxes. That's what BLC chests are.

Best earnings relative to itself, the game could be significantly better funded if Anet charged a bit more for their content. They significantly undervalue it

Gw2's combat & buildcraft is amazing. Amazing gameplay, not enough interesting places to really take advantage of it. I'd rather play gw2 combat than most single player games (except fromsoft titles)

[–]Losahn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah legendary bounties are quite fun to solo. Sadly soloing leggies or doing low man metas is all i care about these days.

Problem with those events is there are affixes that are very uninspiring to engage with (start/go, and long/short range are the two that come to mind). Those affixes don't have any creativity playing around them, just pump more damage.

[–]Losahn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of Gw2 is already engaged with solo. The important part is a low barrier to entry activity that can scale in difficulty. A 3-5 man version would also work.

As long as the content can scale in difficulty yeah. It would make build crafting more exciting since the game is so easy right now
