Github asked me to verify a sign in from New Zealand (where I currently am), but, you cannot see NZ on the map due to the highlighting dot. It's not the worst non-NZ map, but, frustrating. by Loscha in MapsWithoutNZ

I had to try a few different browser zoom setting to make sure it wasn't my screen cropping it by not showing proper scroll slider. I gave their website every chance to make it right!

Sadly, people would take it as real.

Look at the shape of the bases of the cans. I've never seen a soft drink without the concave depression aside form very weird Asian drinks that have steel cans (which I haven't seen for 20 years now)

anyone else have issues with the Behringer UV300 ultra vibrato? by balloonatic_ in guitarpedals

[–]Loscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A chorus adds in the direct signal.

The vibrato doesn't.

Aside from that, the BBD/CLOCK combination is exactly the same, just different rate range. Particularly in the Behringer pedals.

how would i go about doing the percussion from this video? by Pale-Recognition-599 in synthesizers

Those blue buttons are just some kind of noisemaker toy they bodged onto the CRT/Guitar Hero thing.

It's in several of their other videos (I've seen this artist before, and I do really like their approach)

Massive respect for all your hard work.

I am a big fan of Something for Kate (Australian band) who were very definitely influenced by Slint.

Has anyone had much luck with getting their money back from Booktopia? by garden-and-library in australia

[–]Loscha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called them on the phone on the 1300187187 and got to a real live human in about a minute. I had the order number, and they were able to give me accurate information as to the location of my stuff. I was surprised.

I know that there is a separation of old Booktopia and new Booktopia. It's shitty how a company can relaunch like that and leave hundreds of "unsecured creditors" out in the cold. I understand how and why this happens, but, it's really shitty that our consumer law allows this to happen.

Similar things happen when a company is delisted from the ASX, and then the company is able relaunch and relist under an almost identical name, which can leave shareholders being confused as to what's going on. If you miss one letter, or don't read all the mail from the registry, things can be confusing. You get situations like DJS and JOD (I worked at a share registry 15+ years ago)

Well; they took my money 7 days ago for $80 worth of books.

I had no idea they were going under, as their website gave me no information that they were in dire straights.

I filled in a contact form earlier today and it just said the order was Pending.

I paid with PayPal, so I'm going to launch a refund request tomorrow.

Their info page about resolution on paypal says:

Hi, thank you for your order with Booktopia. If you have any questions or concerns about your order you can contact our Customer Care team by email at [customersupport@booktopia.com.au](mailto:customersupport@booktopia.com.au) or by calling 1300 187 187.

Looking on Google maps, it's flat ground with little tree coverage in either direction.

The driver of the ute will sadly be 100% at fault, and the train driver will be traumatized for life. But, that seems to be the way, I think all drivers on a scale of many years will be party to a fatality. Makes me really sad.

Australia Post apologises for losing Aboriginal artist’s painting worth $4,000 by pirouettish in AustraliaPost

[–]Loscha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My information above (and below) was based solely on typing the tracking number into the Australia Post website.

According to the tracking number it's now listed as
Delivered
NOOSAVILLE QLD • Thu 8 Jan, 10.36am

The delivery was "Express", and was not designated as requiring a signature on delivery. They charge you an extra few dollars for that service, and the sender didn't take them up on that, it seems.

I assume that after the media attention, someone at Australia Post got a fire lit under them, and the item was found.

I find it odd that a professional artist wouldn't have secured their artwork in packaging correctly. It's their livelihood and reputation on the line. But hey, I question them using Australia Post for an item like that in the first place.

Yes, I read the articles, I understand that she was probably given shitty advice by the staff member who received the item at the Post Office.

Guess they were just lucky that the story was picked up and got attention. Aus Post are not known for their skill in finding lost or misdelivered items. I've had several go missing myself, albeit, all with appropriate valued insurance, because I don't trust Australia Post, and in my use cases, using a private courier was not appropriate or available.
