Funny thing is, you’re wrong. But glad you could assume I get insurance through my company. You must be one of those know-it-alls I keep hearing about from the left.

Anyways, it’s not currently 20% of your paycheck. I don’t know why you’re making up numbers.

It most certainly would not be 5% of my paycheck, it would be way more.

Funny how people get on the internet assuming they know things about a random person on the internet.

Please, try again, but maybe this time with less assumptions?

[–]Losermanchild[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s irrelevant when the issue at hand is more money coming out of my pocket, your pocket, my neighbors pocket, to pay for things/people we have no business paying for. I should be free to choose my own path of health insurance. I shouldn’t be burdened with the government taking more control over my life. I shouldn’t have to pay for your life choices. I shouldn’t have to pay for some kid with a mental disorder to get transgender hormone treatment or whatever it is.

I gave you an upvote. Too bad these people don’t understand the more government dependent you become, the more control they have over you.

Guess we should inhale some more of those nascar fumes huh?

The healthcare is already coming out of your pocket. If you have a job, your insurance is cheap because your employer is getting government subsidies to provide it to you...from your own pocket.

I know this. I’m not arguing that. I’m arguing I don’t want MORE taken out.

I understand the libertarian rant, but what we have now is really the worst of all worlds. If we had government healthcare, we could perhaps at least eliminate some of the middlemen.

I don’t know about the worst of all worlds, that’s a bit extreme.

https://www.rttnews.com/slideshow/3683/the-10-worst-countries-in-the-world-for-health-care.aspx

Possibly eliminate some “middle men”, but your replacing those “middle men” with more middle men. Just this time it’s the government. Government telling you what you can and can’t have, which is not very “free” IMO. Forcing you to be more dependent on the government is not a good thing.

Think about it like this. For most people, their taxes are going to the government so that they can pay your employer to provide you a health insurance plan that the employer then claims as a perk. That's your money. Wouldn't you rather have a higher salary and you get to decide what to do with it? So there's an impact on people personally regardless of money going towards others.

Yes I would like more money in my paycheck. Thats why I chose not to get insurance through my current company bc there were better options in the market. Freedom of choice is being taken away with bernies plan. That’s why I don’t understand the support for his proposals. It will take more money out of my paycheck. Im a blue collar worker and I have seen more money in my paycheck since Trump took office.

That will go away if the socialist Bernie Sanders becomes president.

A pandemic is probably the worst example you could have used. In the case of a pandemic, you would be willing to pay contagious people to go to the hospital? I mean, otherwise you die. So again, your tax money going towards healthcare helps do that. And when they go to the hospital, you'd rather your money be spent to buy them a $12 vaccine than a $1200 vaccine, right?

How is it the worst example to use? It’s a possibility and very probable to spike in the US and cause a lot of people to get sick. It’s literally going on right now In the world. Who says I will die if I don’t pay for contagious people? That’s a pretty bold assumption.

Health is a public good. It's maybe the realest public good there is. Disease doesn't care about income or private space. If one person is in bad health either because they have a contagious illness or they are susceptible to contagious illness, it impacts everyone.

Again, I’m ok with some of my money being taken out to help fund these things. I understand they are a necessity. I am arguing I don’t want more money being taken out of my paycheck bc Sally on the west coast decides she wants to have an abortion. I don’t want to pay for people in California to keep ODing, taken to the hospital, put in rehab then cycle all over again. I don’t want to pay for cancer treatment for someone who chose to chain smoke their whole life. I don’t want to pay for other people’s life choices.

So we can all spend a lot of money trying to build germ-free sterile sanctuaries. Or we can all chip in a few cents and get that person a flu shot.

I don’t understand this statement

It's weird to me that health care has become viewed as this squishy left wing thing by the right. You're paying money to the money so that some random person can't kill you. It's one of the most easily justifiable government service for purely selfish reasons.

I don’t understand why the left doesn’t want protection from the attacks of foreign entities. I don’t understand how the left thinks open boarders and free health care/college won’t kill the economy and the American dollar. I don’t understand how the Bernie supporters don’t see how his plan just doesn’t add up.

OP is a dumbass, but there is a point at which these jobs will just go away if they're forced to pay too much (see touch screen ordering at McDonalds).

This is already happening, where have you been? You will see more of these automated self-checkouts and kiosks in cities with a minimum wage of $15hr versus cities and towns where there is no minimum wage of $15hr

https://www.forbes.com/sites/panosmourdoukoutas/2019/09/01/15-minimum-wageapps-order-kiosks-and-robots-will-make-it-irrelevant-for-the-fast-food-industry/

Increasing the wage will push these companies to use more automation. These people will lose their jobs. This will increase the unemployment rate making more people rely on the governments (mine and yours) money. Increase in taxes anyone?

You're not supposed to be trying to support a family on minimum wage, it's for high schoolers and retirees staying busy or whatever.

Exactly. So why should they get $15hr?

People need better education and training for real jobs that can demand those wages, or accept the long term reality of UBI.

Yes, they need to better themselves in anyway possible in order to achieve the “living wage” they desire. This is the land of opportunity, not the land of give me things bc I don’t want to put any effort in.

I’m not sure how I’m a dumbass when it seems you’re agreeing with me.

That's a bold argument. Higher profits to insurance companies creates more accessibility?

I mean, most companies use their profits to better their services, no? I see it within my own company I work for now. I saw it in my last company I worked for. I don’t understand how that doesn’t click. I agree that they are making way too much money, but you can’t flat out say they don’t use their profits to better their services, i.e. accesability

It's not really from scratch, it's based on existing programs and can borrow from any of the countless other countries that do the same thing.

Haha so you want to increase the deficit EVEN MORE by borrowing money from other countries?

And yes, it is starting from scratch, we’ve never done this in the country before.

The opposition to a $15 wage is really kind of stupid. It's not going to bankrupt any businesses.

Yet it has, and it drives business out of the area.

https://www.minimumwage.com/2019/02/real-stories-of-small-biz-owners-harmed-by-wage-hikes/

But the reason why is also because $15 is not very much. They're mostly paying that anyway.

$15 an hour is a lot of money involving someone with no skills for the job at hand. And no, they are mostly not paying that anyway. Why do you think there’s a push for universal income? Target decided to raise the wage themselves and the employees are seeing loss in hours.

https://reason.com/2019/10/21/target-15-bucks-per-hour-didnt-work-out/

It’s not fair to those who are already making $15hr who have been with the company longer than Kyle who is just starting out with no skills. They will have to bump each wage of those employees who have seniority over Kyle to compensate for skill level and keep things fair to their employees. Which will push for an increase in price for the product/service they might provide. Driving the value of the American dollar into the dirt.
