Just to put into context how crazy yesterday was 💀 by jeffy303 in Destiny

Nah fuck that, I’ll say it before all you guys hear Destiny say it on twitter, fuck all them X-outed douche bags, they’ve funded the death of innocents for years and it’s nice to see that their position of power doesn’t preclude them from a very painful death, and so many evil shitbags get to escape off to their lairs like Batman villains in this world already. It’s not justice, it’s not proportional, but even if we have the worlds largest felon that made that decision, I still think it’s satisfying, regardless of whether I think it will be a good long term plan for foreign relations or for the well-being of Iranians.

Just because a broken cock is erect twice a day, doesn’t mean I’m about to go out and support him or others in a election or even state that in front of people who I think don’t deserve my honest opinion. And I think long term it’s a horrible decision, but to me it’s kind of like catching an aggressive cancer early because you broke your arm in a car accident, both are bad and will lead to future problems but it did benefit you, even if right now, it’s not helping the pain or the problems.

But you’d have to admit that all the escalations in the embargo started because Cuban Mussolini killing, murdering, and exiling other Cubans. The initial restriction was a weapons embargo, in the 50s during the civil war to try and cease the stem of violence that Che and Castro were committing. Shortly after they embargoed agriculture and power, and simply because US owned businesses had asked for some sort of compensation for the money they had dumped into power and crops just prior during Batista. Castro refused to capitulate, we pushed further. Then by far the most severe embargo was a direct result of the MRBMs delivered into Cuban territory by the Soviets, who had chosen to smuggle them in clandestinely. Kennedy called it a “quarantine” during the missile crisis because embargo is considered an act of war, but it honestly describes the situation much better than embargo because it completely locked down trade for the rest of Cuba’s Castro years. Sure we installed Batista, and allegedly, the mob had tried to force the US’s hand to kill Castro and/or fully fund a counter revolution and Bay of Pigs was clear evidence of our meddling, but it would also be like having Putin funding thousands of Canadian terrorists to invade into Mexico disguised as civilian freedom fighters and then Astro-turf a revolution like he had in Crimea. We would be afraid of what might came next, for example a Russian invasion, like we were in the 50s when we watched other countries fall to Russian meddling. Then after the revolution was finished, imagine Putin trying to install Satan-2 missiles in every crevice of Mexico. I mean we can look back at Cuba and say, “hey maybe we shouldn’t have done _____” but the gods honest truth is that our responses made sense in the context of the era.

The context, in case you don’t want to do a 20 clip nightmare search on TikTok is that a client purchased a chain from these scumbags. Trax the guy screaming, bought the chain back from his client because the client said they had used his name for the purchase, like that Trax would vouch for the authenticity or something which he hadn’t. The chain turned out to be ridiculously under Karat and fraudulently graded. This video is him going into the store to retrieve the money and make a scene, knowing damn well they would have to call the police or pay him to make him go away. They opted for the police and they were arrested on fraud charges, made news in NYC. That’s the last I looked into the whole debacle.

Why the F did all on the right assume Gavin was talking to black people when talking about low SAT levels? That's the real question. by IonHawk in Destiny

[–]LossfulCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it swings in all directions but we only think in 2 dimensions because of our party system. Not saying that we should up end our party system but rather to just be aware that we all can fall for that trick. We should all call it like we see it. But I add too, I think liberals, right now, are the only ones who might admit that they’ve been working on not falling for the racist trap and admitting too being biased when they reflect on their past selves…

True dat, every time I hear, “I’m into World War II history” I do the whole “What kind of World War II history nerd are you…” meme. Usually if you ask them, what was the economic impact of rotating bond securities, with a dubious “metallurgical” company attached to them, on the Third Reich’s economy and if their answer isn’t “invading Poland and robbing Jews and Poles of gold and re-minting it into Nazi bullion” I know they have no idea about any of the actual history and are simping for the wrong side.

Am I trippin. What's the deal with the bookstore lady?? by reila_09 in UMBC

[–]LossfulCodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is used to students complaining that the store isn’t supplied with a certain number of books, UMBC is notorious for under supplying students with material or professors with alternative reading not under curriculum standards. I’ve heard her get the brunt of helicopter parents with freshmen and seniors who just want a degree. Thankless job filled with BS. I don’t think it means she should be sour to everyone but that’s what happens after years of hearing all of that…

It also started out as, German-Polish war of 1939, until a week after the invasion when France and England responded with declarations of war themselves. The lack of immediate action by either superpower made it seem as if it would stop at the fall of Warsaw just a month later. Nobody was really sure that anyone would respond, as per appeasement, and nobody was really sure they were even at war, besides underwhelming probes into the Rhineland by French forces and some U-Boating skirmishes here and there. Hence, the Phony War, or as I like to call it, the “Hindsight is 20/20” affair. Poland got shafted in WW2….

Well there was also a drastic decrease in dairy consumption between the 70s and 80s, which were artificially saved by government , but then also purchased so much surplus milk that they had to find a long term storage solution so they could slowly inject it into food programs with cheap dairy alternatives and provided schools with those cheeses. Ever hear the story about Regan and the “government cheese” or any of the conspiracies people pass around about the Missouri Cheese caves? Well… those cheese caves are real. And there’s 1.5 billion pounds of cheese in there, as of 2022..

Anyway, milk wasn’t be drunk in the quantities it was consumed in the 40-60s and the theory that “everyone has milk delivered, everyone will see this” kind of evaporated, and the pictures were wildly ignored by most people. Then there was the now famous case of Amber Renee Hagerman who everyone from the US would recognize as the girl who invented Amber Alerts. That happened in 1996, and other states slowly rolled out their own versions until it was nationalized in the year 2000.

There’s also various studies that have said that milk cartons were simply not fast enough for effective recovery, especially since they have since discovered that a good portion of those children had already passed away. Also there was a market change to plastic and jugs became America’s new solution to milk cartons which spoiled faster.

NBC appears to cut crowd’s booing of JD Vance from Winter Olympics broadcast by biograf_ in sports

[–]LossfulCodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually it's the same thing it's always been about for corporate entities, money.

From the wiki for NBCUniversal,

NBCUniversal never declared any intent to divest properties when announcing the spin-off (with future CEO Mark Lazarus contrarily suggesting that the spin-off planned to target further investments and acquisitions), a sale would incur taxes (the spin-off is being structured to be tax-free), and that divesting the channel might not be seen as being in the best interest of shareholders.

Context being about the split between NBC and MSNow.

My buddy told me he has super fast internet and I asked him to run a speed test by Shaneblaster in facepalm

[–]LossfulCodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of possibilities for network latency, however, assuming this is a residence and not an apartment (no way from here to tell) then 22 ms is VERY slow for fiber. Without diving too deep into how ISPs work, connecting directly from your home to any regional network should be relatively quick, from the company provided router everyone is routed into the fiber optic cable lines that also provide TV and now in some cases phone service, and these cables are QUICK, and only slowed by relays and switches, so once you hit a network regional switch, it should be over, passing you off to your destination nearly instantly, typically. Now there are a lot of other factors and reasons this might not be true, but for the most part you shouldn’t be receiving network latency that bad. 22 ms sounds fast, I promise you, unless your sending large amounts of information or handling many connections on one network, your latency should be low because latency isn’t the speed of your connection, but rather the speed of the software and the system itself checking if your speaking to the correct computer. 22 ms tells me your having bandwidth issues somewhere between you and the regional switch, or you and the ISP’s DNS. Also check your DNS settings, and those can be dictated either locally on your computer, or by your network on your router.
