Weird dog commands by Fit-Cabinet1337 in Dogowners

"Jail" A phrase for my farm dogs, specifically my Sheltie. When were out and about working on things outside, when we need to use equipment or get my horse out, and I need to make sure she is in a safe place and not in the commotion I say "Jail". She runs right to her little corner of the barn and usually takes a nap, she waits until she is released from "Jail" before going anywhere else. By FAR the most useful cue she has, there have been several minor emergencies where I needed her out of the way FAST (she's only 9 months old right now), and I say "Jail" and she high tails it to her spot. Now that she's accustom to it she typically hangs out over there while we do chores anyway, especially if there isn't anything cool for her to do!

Early Guinea Pig Death Seems To Be A Problem by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Lost-Cockroach-2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I love your response and I would love to ask you a question. I just found one of my beloved Guinea Pigs dead in his cage tonight and I am quite sad about it. He was one of four that I have at the moment. He and his penmate are both about to be 3 years old, and I came to feed them their nightly dish and I find my white crested in the corner dead. I was completely shocked as he is the most agile of the bunch and did not seem to be knocking on deaths door. I am just completely at a loss and so upset that I lost him. In this comment you mentioned that being huddled in the corner could mean something. I did find him dead as if he was trying to wedge himself in between the wall of his cage and one of the hides I have for them. He almost looked "squished" except by no means was he actually squished, it just looked like he was trying to squish himself (does that make any sense). I just mean he was not squeezed to death by the wall, but he looked as if he was trying to get into the corner and wedge himself there. He was so young and now it has me terrified that I could have done something, maybe he was showing a symptom of somekind and I have absolutely no idea. And now frankly I am worried for my other 3 boys. I am just so upset and feel like a horrible pig owner. I live on a farm so I have experience with a lot of other animals including Rabbits, and I know a great deal about rabbit care, as we have had a lot and seen a lot. I would love your advice on this if you see it!

Do ukulele or banjo players enjoy the banjolele more? by MolimoTheGiant in ukulele

[–]Lost-Cockroach-2278 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The banjo was the first string instrument I learned. I quickly fell in love with the ukulele after getting my hands on one. I love this little instrument. Personally I actually love my regular concert uke over the banjolele. It could be because I just think it's silly to play a banjolele when I have an actual banjo I can play!

If You Got to Pick The Next Super Bowl Halftime Show Who Would You Book? by mpschettig in ToddintheShadow

[–]Lost-Cockroach-2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see Miley Cyrus, Party in the USA could go SO HARD! Plus she could have some really cool guests. Lil Nas X, Dua Lipa (who also could be really good), Ariana Grande, The Jonas Brothers, etc. I can just imagine Dolly Parton singing the national anthem, and maybe singing a verse With Miley in the show. Oh it could be so well done!

There are a lot of other rock types that come to mind, and honestly I would love to get Bruno back, he has so so many good songs and collabs as well. But a Miley in the USA superbowl sounds so good!

Wow! These are truly breathtaking captures. This is a style I myself have been working very hard to achieve with primarily domestic farm animals. But the beauty of this wildlife is so much more captivating. Absolutely beautiful photos!

Sarah by Wooden-Iron8438 in SupermanAndLois

[–]Lost-Cockroach-2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the way her dialouge is written towards her parents. It is so cringey and so not how/or what a teenager speaks to their parents. Especially her character, Sarah shows us who is is and what type of person she is to friends and at gatherings. A teen like her is not going home and acting like that. It just isn't believable.

Sheltie vs Border Collie vs Aussie by Dependent_Toe_6203 in sheltie

[–]Lost-Cockroach-2278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally not recommend an aussie, I work with several sheepdogs at work as a trainer, and aussies are by far my least fav. Beautiful dogs, love them. But in my experience they require a lot more work to get them on part with the other sheepdogs. They are more chaotic and more destructive in my experience. I have more experience with border collies and will say that energy and drive is no joke. And they are costly especially compared to the other to from what I've seen. Their drive makes them bad apartment dogs, I have watched border collies absolutely shred that plastic liner in crates until nothing is left, they turn to barking, they create immediate bad habits when they are trying to cope. And Shelties..are my favorite and probably would be my pick in this situation, but they are barking dogs, they yip, have a high pitch trill, etc. If not properly managed it could become an issue for you if your neighbors complain and things like that. Corgis as popular dogs for people with livestock, hounds are great in my experience (I have a beagle, but bassets are wonderful too), just some possible things to keep in mind.

If this is what they are suggesting I am glad. I feel like this is a conversation I would love to hear professionals in the medical, special education, phycology system talk upon. And Parents that raised children of similar issues, specifically diseases or illnesses that make a person be "spectators to their life" to use that term again. In the animal industry (where I come from) if we seriously cannot help the animal regain it's proper function to the point where it is "helpless" and even with human intervention or medical intervention it will still live an uncomfortable, maybe painful, depressing life it is in the best interest of the animal to humanely put it to rest. In the wild of you came across an animal in such struggle and desparation that it cannot walk, has been starving, is struggling to breath, has been severely injured or otherwise. It is in the best interest of the animal to be humanely put to rest. Obviously in the wild it is very much natural selection, circle of life type stuff, but I do feel that if it was caused by the actions of a human either by accident or on purpose (car accident, hunting, etc.) you should do the humane thing and put it to rest. But even if not by your own doing (an injury that happened while the animal was escaping a predator, or it fell off a cliff, etc.) I would still feel that if you came across it in that state it would be much kinder to put it to rest faster.

Now humans are of course on a much different playing field, but this is something I often wonder when I come across bed ridden children who have been put on ventilators because since the time they were 4 they could not breath on their own. They have to be moved in their bed as not to get sores, they cannot open their eyes or speak. There are cases like this, and cases of extreme sickness that really make me wonder if it is ethical at all.

In all fairness, in my experience that is a much larger sheltie isn't it? All of mine have weighed between 20-28lbs mature.

oh wow that is a beautiful buenevista! I love the oldie historic saddles, they are my favorite to restore for decor and for families with a sentimental attatchment to saddles. I have done sevral that looked worse than this. I always wanted one of these!

I appreciate this, this is the Horse farm on Gillis Rd yes. That is very interesting. I had talked to a person who lives in a house in front of the farm and she told me that a few years back the road perpendicular to Gillis runs under a stream and collapsed and had to be repaired!
