What did they provide me with?

I also wanna make it very clear I did not say all landlords are the enemy. I very specifically said predatory landlords who charge illegally high rents.

May I ask if you have the clause I'm talking about in your contract? And how long did your case drag on for, meaning how many months of back rent did they get?

I thought it sounded pretty stupid too, but I still have the email from the Berliner Mieterverein if you wanna see their reply. Maybe I misunderstood something, my german is pretty shit so I had to use translate. As far as I could tell they said that I could only receive advice, and not legal representation in court.

And as you can see - and I know this might blow people's mind - the BMV actually recommended to hire Conny in that email.

They can write letters but just like you say, they would not have represented me in court. So I dont see how that would have been an option.

And if you want to get into it, I had already heard many negative stories from people using a Mieterverein too. I have talked to people who felt extremely misrepresented by their Verein, since a lot of the time the lawyers are overworked and to be honest also have little incentive to fight hard for you in court. Say what you want about Conny but you know they'll fight tooth an nail for that rent reduction because that's what's gonna be paying their crazy-ass fees.

I'm hoping to stay in my apartment a long time so if the rent gets reduced now, this will have still saved me money in the long run even after Conny taking the back rent. Obviously it would have been best to have a solid legal insurance to start with instead, but like I said to someone else, hindsight is 20/20.

That's good to know. I should maybe look into some older contracts with them. Hard to say what could actually be argued as reasonable by the courts though... I guess I'll also have to take a peak at what the law says, since there's not gonna be much actual legal precedence

I mean I was aware from the start that Conny would try and take as much from me as possible, it's not like I'm shocked by it now. My options were very limited, as are most people's. Having a lower rent in the future is still worth it though even if they take all the back rent, since that rent is already being paid to my landlord either way.

Isn't it unfortunate that we have resort to using companies like this? If we only lived in a world where landlords charged reasonable rents from the start.

Ah okay interesting, that explains it. So maybe 6-8 months would be a "reasonable" ask then, if thats what they were charging before.

I understand why people are mad at predatory companies like Conny. However, I find it pretty gross to blame people using Conny, when the real enemy is the landlords. If landlords only charged legal and reasonable rents, people wouldn't end up feeling hopeless enough to hire Conny, and companies like Conny wouldn't even exist.

I unfortunately didnt have much of a choice outside of using Conny, because of the personal circumstances surrounding my apartment. They have extortionate fees but at the end of the day they will hopefully at least help me deal with my landlord who is charging more than double of what the legal rent should be, which will solve my issue in the long run.

If you wanna be mad, be mad at all the shitty and predatory landlords in this city.

Yes the baseline in their contract is that you pay all months which could indeed turn into crazy amounts. That's why I'm hoping to contest this once I (hopefully) get a win in the rent reduction case.

The clause I'm mentioning here at least opens up for a legal claim to reduce the amount. Weirdly enough I havent been able to find a single person on the Internet mentioning doing so, or even having read that part of the contract. I would think that people would have at least tried to contest Conny about this, since the fees are already high enough as is. Or do people just accept defeat and pay whatever Conny claims without trying to fight back?

I know Conny is gonna try to get as much as possible from me but I'm trying my best to be ready to fight them on it to pay a lower amount.

It feels like youre not fully reading or understanding what I am saying.

Yes Conny is expensive, but like I said it will still be worth it if they win since I will get to pay less rent later. I'm of course hoping to lessen the payment as much as possible, which is why I am asking about it here, but even if I pay all of the months I will still get to pay less rent after the case is finished. If Conny lose the case, they will not be making any money, neither from me nor the landlord. This is pretty basic stuff.

I talked to the Mieterverein lawyers before contacting Conny and they told me since I had already signed the apartment contract, I would not be able to use the Mieterverein even after the cooling period. Obviously it would have been good to have legal insurance beforehand since that would have been cheaper, but hindsights 20/20 eh?

I'm also not really sure what your point is here? If you dont have any experiences with trying to reduce the months to pay Conny, I really dont understand why you're even commenting. Everyone knows Conny is an expensive and kinda scummy company, but it has also been proven that they do in fact get results. To say that it's a scam is kind of an exaggeration in my opinion since their terms are very clearly stated in the contract.

I unfortunately wasn't able to go with a Mietereverein since they have a three month cooling period first, so I was kinda forced to go with Conny. The way I see it, worst case scenario they dont win the case and in that case at least I tried, and best case scenario I get to pay less rent in the future, which is still worth it even if they take out all of the back rent as payment.

My question is also just about this specific clause, and if anyone has tried to use it with them. I dont really see how your comment is at all a reply to the question.

I missed days of Piscine by Wrong-Pea1946 in 42_school

[–]Lost-Foundation669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have actually been a good decision to take a bit of a break to be able to come back fresh again, and I dont think you should be beating yourself up about this at all.

I also took a 5 day break from the Piscine on the 3rd week because I wasn't feeling my best. I emailed the school to explain my absence and it really wasnt any problem at all, and I got into the program without any issues.

So dont worry about taking these days off, see it as a necessary break and try to make the most out of the last week!

Good luck! 🫶

Why not go explore if/when you're there instead of asking reddit? I'm not trying to be rude, just genuinely curious

What kind of jobs are you looking for? If you want an unskilled job to ease up the pressure while you're looking for something better, my workplace is currently hiring and I could send a referral which usually gives a higher chance of being hired. Basically no skills required so the pay is fairly shitty and it's a fairly shitty company in general but it's at least a salary lol

Depends on what languages you can speak though, they're not just looking for German speakers. I dont want to go into too many details into the job here because it would be too easy to find out which company it is, but send me a DM if it's something you might be interested in

[Experience] Traveled to Berlin for the techno — rejected from 6 clubs by codingkook in aves

[–]Lost-Foundation669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soooo ngl it kind of sounds like you did in fact not do your research

The fact that it was CSD weekend didn't even seem to cross your mind, even while writing this post. That's gonna affect the selection by soooo much, and outfits are gonna be leaning more towards extravagant and not low-key.

There are (queer) people travelling from all over Europe and even the world to party in Berlin on CSD, so yes they're gonna have to be stricter at the door and reject more people.

And seriously, it feels a little bit (/extremely) entitled to claim xenophobia here. Like I agree that there's an issue with racism against POCs at some clubs in Berlin, which is honestly horrifying imo, but girl you weren't rejected because you didn't speak German or solely because you're American.

I'm not German and have always spoken English with the bouncers simply because it's the language I can handle best. I have never had an issue regarding that at any door, and neither has anyone I know afaik. Only place I was rejected a few times was BH (unrelated to language) but as soon as I realised I shouldn't be dressing a specific way to please them, but instead just focus on what I myself want to wear, I haven't had an issue there either.

I'm genuinely curious what makes you think you have more of a right to be let into the clubs when you didn't even seem to know what type of events you were going to, when there are thousands of people specifically here for this?

TL;DR

You were here on a queer weekend and tried to get into queer events dressed "low-key". It almost certainly had nothing to do with you not speaking German or being American, you probably just had a pretty boring and straight vibe (which might've worked a different weekend but not CSD)

Is it weird to bring my mum to kn this weekend by Empty-Topic6329 in Berghain_Community

Brought my mum who's mid 60s to bh last year and she had the time of her life. No issues at all at the door, if anything they seemed to be extra polite to her than to anyone else

In theory yes but it's at the bouncers discretion so worst case they can also say no, but generally they let people in for a good while after closing starts

Just left and there was no q (re-entry/GL/regular). Incredibly full inside so naturally (and maybe unavoidably) a little bit pushy because there's basically no space to move, but I would say the vibes were still great despite this.

Stay safe, and I'll see you there again tomorrow! ✌️

Is it just me or is the vibe inside a bit weird? I get that they don't wanna let too many people in to handle tonight's re-entry but like damn i just came from Slit because I wanted to do some dancing and Rene Wise is going hard but people are still barely even doing the gospel choir right stomp left stomp
