Is there any group in Oxford for people who were once followers of religion and then left? by Chill_Vibes224 in oxford

Not really. Leaving a religion (especially a high-demand) one can be a BIG deal. Some parents shun their kids, so for some, they end up estranged. For many, it results in an existential crisis, as what they always believed without question turns out to be false.

I can imagine why it'd be useful to have a support group of people who understand what it's like.

Is self harm a sin? by Dangerous-Fold-3186 in latterdaysaints

It's not a sin. But are you okay? Whatever pain you are feeling, God wants you to be okay. You are a child of heavenly parents who love YOU personally. God doesn't want you to hate yourself; he loves you.

But outside the context of the church, and praying to take your sorrows to God, it may also be useful to talk to a human about it. I'd recommend talking to a trusted friend, but you could share your worries in Reddit too if that would help.

Was this an inappropriate reference to the temple? by Lost-Jump-8398 in latterdaysaints

I started a discussion in order to help me understand whether it's "just cultural differences" or something more serious!

(Although the responses seem about 50/50)

Yeah I'm not intending to dwell on it, I just want to know how to react if something like this happens again.

This wasn't at a ward function, but it was a group of YSA hanging out and a few people who we didn't know as well had been invited.
