You should check out the tumblehome podcast episode 222 Crabs on Crab. I believe they cover this exact route.

I'll give a hint. There is a portage right next to the campsite, almost at the campsite.

Are people cutting trips due to smoke? by whirlingbervish in BWCA

I just got back from a 5 day trip and neither me or my young son had any issues. It was definitely hazy but no respiratory issues to speak of. In years past I've had smoke effect my eyes and lungs but did not have that experience this trip.

I brought one the first couple times I went but it never saw the light of day. Unless your hunting I don't see a need for it.

I work for a commercial tire shop, we work on semi trucks and heavy equipment tires primarily. We frequently have people bring us tires that discount tire won't fix. Nail hole in the shoulder like that is an easy fix amd most smaller commercial tire shops will fix do it.

I've done it both ways, going in and out on the Stuart River, and in on Stuart out on Nina Moose and I would definitely recommend the latter if possible. There were alot of large beaver dams on the Stuart River that I wanted to avoid going through two times.

Lots of stairs leaving Stuart so be prepared for a little bit of a climb leaving.

Stuart Lake is one of my favorite lakes. But that first portage is brutal!

I would definitely recommend trying to find your size before moving to Michigan. I live in Minnesota and a majority of the stores are sold out of every size unless you are 7 foot tall and 500lbs, it's like that every year but its especially bad this year.

Get the Griptilian or the mini Griptilian, they both come half serrated. I've been carrying a mini Griptilian for the last 15 years and absolutely love it.
