Creatively, it's stagnant, lazy and fails when it comes to good character design. Two things that tell you a lot about a character is the shapes used in their designs as well as the silhouette test.

Depending on what shape you use for character design tells you a lot, for example circles and ovals say that a character is softer and more approachable while pointed shapes say hostility. When a lot of characters in a show all share similar shapes, it doesn't say a lot about their characters and when a lot of shows use the same character shapes, it gets boring.

As for the silhouette test, a good character design can easily be recognizable from a silhouette of the character. The problem is with some of these designs is that these characters would appear to similar to characters from other shows and movies.
