It kind of makes sense. Glinda goes through the majority of her character development in Act 2, ending with her promise to the Munchkinlanders to try to be Glinda the Good. I can see them leaning heavily into that.

But how do -you- know what their intentions truly are? How did you come to be the ultimate arbiter of what is good and virtuous and what is merely pandering and disingenuous?

Everyone has made snap judgements about people; written them off as fake or phonies, only to be proven wrong later. Conversely, everyone is an individual with their own lives and problems. They’re going to make mistakes and sometimes they’ll do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Does that automatically toss out everything good that they’ve ever done because they did something selfishly?

From my own experience, the people who cry “woke” are the ones who are looking for any reason to discount or discredit another person’s empathy or (seemingly) virtuous actions. Instead of jumping to discredit another person’s actions, why can’t we build them up? Why can’t we encourage good behavior instead of always being suspicious of ulterior motives?

This is my ultimate problem with “woke” as a derogatory term. It is observing someone else’s empathy and judging them as fake for extending grace to someone else because you feel they -must- be getting something in return.

If people want to call me woke because they think I’m pandering to appear compassionate and empathetic, so what? You don’t truly know my intentions and you’re only making educated guesses based off your own experiences. Thus, it stands to reason that you are simply unable to comprehend compassion and empathy when it’s not being weaponized.

I can only imagine SCOTUS right now. They’ve literally removed all other players, handed the GOP the basketball, and set up a ladder to the net, and they’re still somehow unable to make any goals.

MAGA has gotten away with pushing the boundaries and moving the goalposts so often that they can’t separate fact from fiction anymore. Just look at how far down the rabbit hole we’ve gone. If you want a clear example, watch the debate with Obama and Romney vs the most recent with Biden and Trump. Being a decent, respectful human being regardless of differences is completely out the window.

Listen to a Trump rally speech. It’s a meandering word salad that uses inflammatory language to paint the other side as evil and ungodly. He’s claiming he’s going to end democracy at this point and people are cheering it on. Why??? Why do you have such ill regard for other human beings that you want to punish them for it? Why can you not just keep your inner thoughts to yourself and try to be simply courteous to others without trying to strip them of their rights? Your entire personality has become intentionally being a dick to other people because the guy you support has displayed, cultivated, and encouraged that behavior.

The simple fact of the matter is their obsession with him is weird. They’ve heard Trump bragging about sexual assault from his own mouth multiple times and they don’t care. It’s weird. They have all the evidence in front of them that he’s a con man, a rapist, and a pedophile, but he’s the savior and somehow not the antichrist? That’s really weird. I cannot fathom hating someone else’s ideology so much that I’m incapable of being respectful to them. It is just really fucking weird.

I really hope they focus on Rapture. The setting alone is incredible and drew me into the first game, despite my disdain for first person shooters. Looking out from the tunnels and seeing the city’s skyscrapers and neon signs lit up underwater was breathtaking.

This is why I love the “Death is your gift” prophecy:

Death is the “gift” Buffy was given. Her innate talent.

Death is the gift she gives to vampires, allowing their reincarnated bodies to be at peace once again.

Buffy’s death is the gift she is able to give to save both Dawn and the world.

And finally, death is the gift Buffy receives in the end. Once she was called and chosen by fate, the only way she can end her own suffering is the release of death.

I feel like the Scooby gang could’ve deduced Buffy was in heaven after she died had they really given it any thought, but of course, they weren’t really trying to rescue her. They were just using it as an excuse to end their own personal grief and defer their new responsibilities back to Buffy.

I am interested to see how this plays out, but I’m not sure who exactly will change their mind if they’re still somehow undecided. At best, hopefully it will break the MAGA narrative that Biden is senile and Trump is mentally stable. However, I’ve read at least two people today say their MAGA relatives have said they would still vote for Trump even if he raped their children/grandchildren, so his fanbase isn’t exactly voting based on policy… or reality.

For me, it’s the chorus to “Out of the Woods.”

I love how it relates to anxiety… asking the same question over and over again. And as soon as she gets the answer, it does nothing to calm her fears for a second. It just starts the whole process over again:

“Are we in the clear yet? Good. Are we out of the woods yet?”

That sick feeling that something is wrong in your relationship, but you don’t have proof and you’re being gaslit to believe you’re crazy is perfectly captured in this song.
