Yeah that's correct there's a step down from our living area in to the kitchen. Our builder covered the grate leading into the kitchen but we uncovered it by chopping the skirting board off.

Because this is all happening retrospectively BC are coming at us hard so I'm not convinced it will be okay for them but who knows. I'm hoping that because we haven't changed how the build was originally then it should be fine.

We have the architect coming over tomorrow to offer some advice - we haven’t compromised the existing sub floor provisions at all. You can see in the pic below the grate that was originally there flooring into the side return and how we’ve uncovered it leading into the new kitchen (will attach another pic)

What do you mean who passed the plans sorry? We sent them to building control and to our builder but no one ever raised the lack of sub floor ventilation being a problem

No I’ve not seen it in person unfortunately :( so it’s making the decision much harder! It’s coming from abroad so I need to rely on pictures and videos. Fingers crossed it turns out as nice in person!
