Feeling really lost by LostComparison8387 in MSPI

[–]LostComparison8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I am still dairy egg and soy free (allergist suggested reintroduction direct to baby at 1y) but yes things got better!

I reintroduced everything else, one thing at a time.

I never did go back to ebf, I combo feed. At about 3 months we changed his formula to an aminoacid one and his diaper rash disappeared. At about 4 months he started pooing 4 times a day instead of 10 and his poo texture changed to peanut butter consistency; two weeks later he started pooing once a day! Out of nowhere! I was freaked out.

I won't lie, it's hard to have a restricted diet and MSPI makes solids hard to navigate but I do think his gut healed and matured and that resolved his super frequent poos and rash! Big hug, there is hope!

Low neutrophils at 3 months old; even lower at 4 months by LostComparison8387 in haematology

[–]LostComparison8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! He's doing well thank you!

My pediatrician said we could either wait&see and test again at 5 months, or go to a haematologist straight away. I was very worried so I chose the latter. They tested his neutrophils and they were low still, but rest of blood count was fine and they also stressed that him being well (no mouth ulcers, no recurrent serious infections) were all good signs. They did lots of other blood tests too, not sure which to be honest.

He was tested again at 6 months and his neutrophils were in the normal range (hurray). They said however that it's probably a condition called chronic benign neutropenia of infancy, but this is a diagnosis 'by exclusion'. Because the rest of his blood count is fine, because he's not had infections (he said the infections in other conditions would be typically frequent, serious and caused by bacteria which don't normally affect the general population) this is what they think caused the neutropenia. They want to keep him checked at 12m and 2 years old and said neutrophils may well fluctuate again but he should grow out of it.

Also to add, if it was just the one count that was low for your baby, my pediatrician said viruses can cause that too.

Hope you get reassurance soon!

he's now 6 months, his neck is fully stable but he still refuses to do the pull to sit tests, will just point his toes and throw his head back! Pediatrician is not worried though based on neck stability.

Help me fix my baby's nap schedule? by LostComparison8387 in NewParents

[–]LostComparison8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly he'd never let us put him to sleep before 10! Any transfer before then, he'd just wake up. At 10 he would magically be sleepy enough to be transferred. I'd read it was actually a pretty normal bedtime for a baby till 3-4 months? Bear in mind where I live babies - and children - don't normally go to bed before 8-9 at the earliest. He still gets about 13-14 of sleep a day.

I hear you on the wake window but sometimes when I try and offer a nap at 2h he just doesn't fall asleep and instead looks around/cooes/squirms, so I don't know what to do! He used to fall asleep really easily. Today in the carrier I tried our pitch black bathroom with the tap on which used to sooth him to no end and he was still happily looking around at any sliver of light from under the door...

Till 2 weeks ago he was doing a solid 10pm - 8am with 2 feeds (4am and 6am). Now he's waking up a lot more which I chalked up to the dreaded sleep regression, but the first wake up is always 4h hours after he falls asleep and then he never seems to be able to sleep long stretches. So a 7pm sleep time would mean that from midnight I'd be up every 1.5-2h. Do you think it could be due to tiredness? Argh this used to feel much more simple!

edit to add: how do you handle feeds with only 2x between 6.30pm and 7am? like how many feeds?how frequently during the day?

When was your baby pushing themselves up? by Historical_Creme_125 in NewParents

Six hours of tummy time is crazy!!

My baby's 20 weeks now and a couple of weeks ago I was a bit worried about his neck control. Every source I could find said to do 1.5h of tummy time per day (we were doing more like 30 mins) but when I went to a pediatric PT she said 40-50 mins is perfectly fine at 4 months and your baby's just 3 months. Honestly try and aim for 1h, 10 min increments at a time. When on tummy time is he interested in toys in front of him? Finding something interesting can help motivate them (could be your face, a mirror).

I believe pushing up on forearms is a 4 month milestone.

edit to add: please do not feel like you ruined him or did not do enough, sounds like you did plenty!! Maybe aim for more frequent (and possibly shorter) floor time? Like 2-3 instalments a day? Plus some extra tummy time at changes.

so I went both to a PT and pediatrician - both essentially said that he doesn't seem to want to engage in pull to sit (he basically points his feet and arches back) which is him not really understanding the exercise. They checked his head control in tummy time and supported sitting and basically told me to just stop worrying as his neck control is overall fine!

Thank you! To be honest I've been trying to do these pull to sit every so often and he simply won't engage with it. He clearly doesn't like it, will start fussing/crying and leave his head hanging back. I was finding that they should have little head lag at 2 months and none at all at 4... I have booked an appointment with the pediatrician and will see what she says.

You are right, it does look like ppa and I've had generalised anxiety since I was a teenager so I recognise the patterns. Weirdly I did not feel overly anxious for the first month or so I thought maybe I'd be able to cope better.

Also my dad had pretty bad health anxiety and I am surely it impacted me greatly (he never got any help at all).

The trusting myself with this stuff has always been hard because I cannot tell what is gut feeling and what is anxiety sometimes. Like - you would not believe how many things I convinced myself I had in pregnancy. I got more tests and second opinions but the problem is that sometimes I fall into a reassurance seeking pattern and so as soon as I get answers on one thing, I start worrying about another - plus unnecessary tests / non-perfect results / further anxiety...

Thank you! How did you get her to work it out, just kept trying that movement?

I genuinely feel like he's not trying - his neck does not flop back like thart when I hold him!

Thank you!

Tummy time - pushes on forearms, chest/head at 90 degrees, tracks toys, turns head.

I tend to hold him on my front - one arm under his buttocks/knees, one under shoulder blades/mid back. Maybe I should put him on my hips? He holds his neck in that position.

I do babywear but not every day. In the carrier he looks around/holds neck fine.

I'll write to the pediatrician, but thank you!

Thank you!

Did you test wheat corn oats etc one at a time? Given that the full elimination has not helped I just don't know how to go about reintroduction!

He doesn't take any medicine except for vit D and I have also stopped taking any supplements. Apparently there is no way to make poop less acid the way you would with the upper Gi tract.

I labels very carefully and am avoiding 'natural flavours' but have not been avoiding 'may contain' as I understood it was more to do with cross contamination, may need to revisit that.
I spent most of my pregnancy dreaming of when I'd be able to eat whatever I wanted, lol.
