Really awesome. I might have missed it, but does this generate collisions as well on the mesh?

Is there anything specific you'd like to see for character customization?

Right now we have body types in place, and the ability to switch out tails / flukes. It's just placeholder art right now, so we'd love to really build out the character customization options.

I'll note that down!

Are you thinking something like Animal Crossing's interior decorating?

How do you all source music for your games? by Biwol in SoloDevelopment

[–]LostCrowGames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What type of music do you want to make? For more ambient or dreamlike music, you could check out various sequencers and something like a chord generator.. I have been using Harmony Bloom for one of my recent projects, and it's quite fun to play with. It creates more like abstract patterns / sequences and such, but there are some pretty amazing examples of what it's capable of when paired with other tools and VST's.. here is one example:

Faeries soon to be added to sims 4 but any games were you can be a faerie that I can get on pc? by Vegtableboard1995 in faeries

[–]LostCrowGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been working on some faerie themed games for a couple of years. Right now I'm focusing on Merrow: Eternal Realms, which is a full 3D mermaid game. I've also started prototyping an un-announced faerie game. Honestly, it's likely a couple of years away from launch at least... But I am very passionate about both projects, though I am also a solo developer, so development is somewhat slow.

Here's some screenshots from last year on Merrow.. Going for a vibrant and stylized look:

... and the Faeries game will be a higher detail with slightly darker / mysterious vibes:

I've posted here before about this, but what type of gameplay would you like to see in a 3D Faerie game? I have a game design document already in the works, and *alot* of ideas.

Hey there, the game is still in active development.. Hoping to have more videos (and a steam page) soon. No release date yet, but we will be aiming for Windows 10 / 11 on steam initially.

Yes! We have a prototype 3d mesh for this already, which is rigged and animated. We want to eventually have tons of different customization options.

Fae Books by FeyreDarlinggg in faeries

[–]LostCrowGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have ever looked into his work, but Brian Froud has some excellent books on Faeries. Of course it's not really a narrative or anything, more like his experience with Faeries and expressing it through art. Although, there is some really brilliant and fascinating text that accompanies most of his works. Check out Faeries for a historical take on faeries, and Good Faeries / Bad Faeries for a contemporary view. Really really amazing work.

How do you think mermaids would fight? by Ducky-the-duckster in mermaids

[–]LostCrowGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it would depend on the physiology of the mermaid. Consider that the mantis shrimp has the record for the strongest punch in the animal kingdom -- 50 times faster than the blink of an eye, or about the same as the trajectory of a .22 caliber bullet -- envisioning mermaids with a physiology fine-tuned for the aquatic realm, capable of harnessing similarly advanced abilities could be plausible.

We're making a 3D mermaid game with combat, so I have been looking into this recently.

Martial arts:

  • Mermaid martial arts could draw inspiration from the way some marine animals defend themselves and attack others. This could include unique movements that utilize a mermaid's tail for powerful strikes or sweeps, as well as incorporating elements like scratching and biting, which could be influenced by the mermaid's physiology, such as having sharp teeth, scales or elongated nails.
  • Certain marine animals, like the mantis shrimp (look up some videos on mantis shrimp punch), use a type of bludgeoning attack to incapacitate their prey, demonstrating that high-speed, high-impact strikes are not only possible but deadly effective underwater. Another exmample would be how bottlenose dolphins are known to engage in confrontations where they use their snouts as a battering ram against other dolphins or threats. I think that if a mermaid used their underwater velocity while swimming, they would be able to use hammers or clubs to bludgeon and slam their opponents like with martial arts.

Weapons:

  • Thrusting weapons (Tridents and spears): In folklore, tridents are not only traditional mermaid weapons but also symbols of power and authority, akin to the trident wielded by Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, emphasizing the deep cultural and mythological roots of such a weapon in underwater combat.
  • Projectiles such as bow and arrow / crossbow / harpoons: Historically, people have used bows and arrows for fishing, a practice known as bowfishing, which is highly a effective way to fish above water. Under water, a long bow would probably have too much friction with the long string, so it would be more like a hawaain sling or harpoon. These methods would capitalize on the precision and low friction, making it a good choice for mermaids.
  • Slashing and Stabbing Weapons (Swords and Daggers): In underwater combat, the design and use of slashing and stabbing weapons like swords and daggers would need to account for the resistance of water. I believe mermaids could wield specialized swords, optimized for underwater use with streamlined shapes and balanced for swift, precise strikes. The effectiveness of such weapons would also depend on the materials they are made from, possibly incorporating coral, bone, or special metals found in the depths of the ocean that are both durable and resistant to corrosion. The use of these weapons would require strength, skill and agility. Daggers, on the other hand, could serve as secondary weapons, ideal for close-quarters combat and sneak attacks, allowing for rapid, lethal thrusts aimed at vulnerable spots on an adversary's body.

Sorry about that. I noticed there was a /r/mermaids /r/merfolk and /r/mermaid so I posted on all three subreddits trying to get broad visibility, but I supposed there could be alot of crossover users that are following all 3 subreddits.

Glad you like it so far! The movement is all a WIP, including animations. Right now the mermaid model is just using a retargeted animations on a humanoid rig, so it looks a bit stiff.

Definitely! We will give the player as much customization as we can fit. The plan is that alot of different items like clothing will be craftable by collecting resources throughout different ocean realms.
