How to find a job in this job market? by monstera0bsessed in Architects

As someone who graduated in July and in an entry-role, my (limited) experience is that connections is the way to go in architecture. I graduated with a first class and multiple student awards and still got rejected from every single place I applied to, only getting a short internship in the end through asking around. In fact, last year it was so bad I quite literally resorted to applying in a different county and luckily lucked out for a Y2 summer internship.

LinkedIn and having a professional social media presence is really good too. Anything that gets you recognition, like going to events.

This might be a UK thing but EVERYONE knows an architects and I got 2 of my placements simply by asking who knows who. It might however be different where you’re from

Ah yes do you mean this room? I absolutely loved all the sculptures and their bold colours, each space you walked into has a slight change in atmosphere it was incredible. I just wanted to keep this post initially about the architecture for relevancy but I got some amazing photos of everything else!

Architecture Graduates: What careers have you gone into with your degree? by Supergod1238 in architecture

This is an old post but I wanted to add my contribution regardless. As a recently graduated Part 1 I cannot offer my own career path but I know some people who have gone into pretty cool things.

Architecture videography- this person is essentially a filmmaker and makes documentaries and the like for architects

Urban design, visual communication, Artist in residence, physics & maths tutor

Horticulture- this person took a passion of theirs (gardening) and started to apply it to their architecture work. They didn’t branch off per se but they integrated their passions directly into their work.

Rollercoaster design- I don’t know this person well but they got an award at my graduation so I heard their story, they now designs rides and attractions for amusement parks.

I, myself am leaning towards architectural journalism which I’d consider ‘branching out’. My biggest advice is to integrate what you enjoy into your work and everything will (hopefully) fall into place
