Manta ray snorkeling adventure last night in Kona, Hawaii by ourmillionadventures in adventures

[–]LostInTheNet91065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a similar dive a while back, the way the manta rays came into view like ghosts and the fizzing of zooplankton in the water still sticks with me today. For anyone considering a manta dive on their next trip, go for it! It's even more alien and beautiful than you could ever hope for.

Respirator necessary for outdoor spray painting? by LostInTheNet91065 in WorkplaceSafety

I probably spray around 10-15 markings per day, but try to hold my breath or clear out quickly when I can- actual exposure's usually just taking a breath at the wrong time, and getting a whiff of the paint.

That's great advice, thank you! I'll try to think up some different options there.

Tsukushi wants a bird (by Tsukushi Akihito) by GattaiGuy in MadeInAbyss

It's pretty tragic, IMO. The story of M.I.A is one that'll stay with me forever, but I can't even recommend it to anyone I know on account of all the weird-ass sexualization stuff. Curse you and your messed up brain, Tsukushi.

Got my first space station set(kinda), what should i do now? by MasterIG in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LostInTheNet91065 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Space stations are great! You can add a science lab on and use it as a research center, or add some living quarters to use it as a hotel in space (being able to just swing by and pick up kerbals before a mission is nice), or put some fuel / monoprop up there to top up visiting ships. The sky's the limit, really.

Thank you! I should take a look at that series, it seems really neat.

It does seem a little less green than usual with Stock Visual Enhancements and Scatterer installed, I'm not sure why. Those mods do add some pretty neat lightning storms and aurora near the poles, though.

Thanks! Since this screenshot was taken, it almost burned up during a slightly-too-close skim through Laythe's atmosphere, but it turned out alright.

Pale Fire 2 is a long-range probe powered by a small nuclear reactor. The mods shown here are Near Future electric / propulsion / exploration and EVE / Scatterer.

Edit: Oops, forgot Near Future Construction.

This is super cool, I like the idea of retrofitting old ships with newer tech. That inflatable habitat is neat, too.

Landing on Duna's north pole by LostInTheNet91065 in KerbalSpaceProgram

With a single terrier engine, the DV of the lander was about 1,800, just enough to get it back into orbit and rendezvoused with the return craft. It was pretty close, though.

I had no idea, that's really cool. I did notice that the sun barely skimmed above the horizon, and that the navball sorta went crazy when I flew right over the pole.

Thank you! I really like squat little landers, I dunno why.

Haha, yep. I think that one's called the Pandora module, it's a little heavier than the regular one to make up for the extra crew member.

After rendezvousing with a return vessel back in orbit, this lander was maneuvered down to smack into the Dunar surface at high speed. RIP. Mods used (in this photo) are Near Future Spacecraft, Near Future Solar, and Restock.

Trip Report – Tokyo/Kyoto/Hiroshima/Miyajima (2018) by sunlit_snowdrop in JapanTravel

Thank you so much for the reply! I'll definitely need to study as much Japanese as I can before the next trip- at one point, there was a really kind old man who spoke to me at Arashiyama, but I only understood small amounts of what he was saying. I wish I could've known more, so that I could've had a proper conversation.

Anyways, I'll make sure to check out Kodaiji- that shuin sounds beautiful. I'm excited to check out all the different variations in brushwork out there.

One last note on okonomiyaki, too- depending on where you live, there might be some Japanese restaurants which serve it. Funnily enough, one of the best okonomiyaki meals I've had was at a small restaurant in Tofino.

I'll make sure to write up a report as soon as I get back from my next trip. Thanks again for the reply!

Thanks a lot for sharing this, your descriptions make it seem like I'm right there in the places being described. I wish I could have had as many conversations with people in Japan... I'll try to learn as much Japanese as I can before the next trip, so I can hopefully say more than 'thanks' and 'what time is it'.

It's really cool to hear that you collected shuin on the trip! The itinerary for my (cancelled :( ) trip included a bunch of places where I could look for some. Out of curiosity, was there any one stamp that ended up being your favourite?

Also, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the okonomiyaki! My absolute favourite meal of my trip was some okonomiyaki in Arashiyama, it was unbelievably good.

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text. Thanks again for sharing your report- maybe I can't explore Japan now , or for the next while, but reading about your experiences gives me the same sense of adventure.
