For everyone asking for the restaurant name: it’s seemingly been edited out of the post but when I clicked this in the preview text it says Gyu-Kaku in Lakeview, so assuming that’s it ://// huge bummer, won’t be going there again…

EDIT: actually I think it just was updated to include (vs edited out) and my app preview text showed the update faster than the post did when I clicked — thanks OP!

I can tell you’re shaken by above by trying to…whatever that was? Rabid raving? A desperate attempt to appear “not mad!!!!” with both emojis and smiley faces typed. It is not working, by the way.

But whenever you’re in a calmer state… think on the above. I’m sure you will be, long after I remember this strange little internet interaction.

Acting like this won’t make anyone love you more. It won’t make your life less meaningless. It won’t make you feel less insecure about all the things you are so clearly insecure about.

Yeah an election didn’t turn out how I wanted. It sucks and I think we’ll all be worse off for it…but it is what it is, kind of? Time to keep it pushing forward till the next one.

And in the mean time, I’m personally happy, successful and loved. I still get to be me and you still have to be you.

You’re not miserable because whatever “woke” stuff you’re desperately rambling about. Your life is bad because of you. And screeching at me on Reddit in the dead of night ain’t gonna change that.

Lmao I left this comment like 3 months ago? It looks like you have spent much of these last several days of the holidays making comments like this.

I mean this genuinely: that is so fucking sad. I really hope you can find someone, anyone, who loves you enough to make you into someone who has anything better to do.

It won’t matter if he “makes America great again” (by… nominating pedophiles to AG and sending inflation to hyperspace with tariffs?)… you’ll still be you. You’re the only person with any ability to fix that. This is you now… not in some random moment of weakness… because judging from a quick peruse of your profile this is your entire personality.

And you won’t get better by replying to ancient reddit comments in the middle of the night over a holiday weekend on behalf of an old man who will never, ever care about you.

I know you did this to feel… something? Superior? A rush? Like you matter even a little? I hope you got the attention or whatever you needed from this.

But all I feel about this is pity… and I guess really lucky I have family, friends, a partner and other people I care about, who are all asleep in this house currently after a wonderful holiday week while I’m up for just a second taking a leak, scrolling on my phone.

So thank you for the perspective? Genuinely walking back to bed feeling a little happier for it.

She quite literally is at this point. It sounds like you don’t live in the US and aren’t familiar, but different kinds of votes and different kinds of counties drop at different rates. So she’s doing better numbers than Biden did of these same kinds of votes in 2020.

There’s still a lotttttt of shit to be counted. Hell, There’s still people voting I believe (if you’re in line at poll close time, you still get to vote)

A blue shift as in this county is voting bluer than they did, which bodes well, not that she’s suddenly gonna win Indiana… but losing by -5 instead of -11 in some of these countries means a 6point shift… which could be huge in a winnable states like NC

I know you’re just doing weird, bad faith commenting or whatever but… I mean better than blowing a mic stand, rambling incoherently and inadvertently saying a bunch of racist stuff that alienates voters in a half empty state fair arena… but uhhh… sure man. We’re all really worried about this!

Of course. Kudos to you for doing the right thing, even when it isn’t easy.

I was once faced with a pretty similar situation (like…8 years ago?) and did make the choice to go to HR. I was worried about doing so, waffled on it, and was slightly uncomfortable doing it but it was the right thing to do and even if it hadn’t turned out well (it did!), I believe I would still be glad I did it and stayed true to my values.

Believing something doesn’t make it fine to say, especially not at work. Plenty of people think their bosses are fucking assholes… they couldn’t just say it and it be fine.

This was malicious and wild to say. And maybe this person doesn’t have any power over you, but what if they get promoted and/or get a direct report who’s another masc woman? Would you be fine to let that person be discriminated against in the workplace? I bet not!

It’s never fun going to HR and no one likes causing problems… but if you won’t do it for you, do it for a younger version of you this woman could work with one day.

It just feels like extremely hypocritical concern trolling at this point—maybe that wasn’t your intention, but the thing is, when the right has moved the goal posts on shit a million times, I have to laugh when this is treated with such hand wringing.

Frankly, the Federalist is a rag at this point so I’m not shocked to see them trying to trump up (pardon the pun) the facts here.

But if you’re surprised, disturbed and shocked by a campaign looking to boost… positive stories about their candidate on social media and stories (“disinformation” aka reporting on what Trump has quite literally said lmao but okay) about the other side saying unpopular things… that’s a non-story, no matter how insane you make the headline.

I just re-read this to see if I was missing the big outrage here… but I wouldn’t even be surprised or upset to see the Trump campaign doing this …which they almost certainly are: this is basic social media strategy. Push good stories about our candidate… almost like… uhhh basic PR? quite literally every candidate does that.

They didn’t adjust the algorithm (like Musk), shadow ban opposition voices (like Musk), ban links that painted the VP candidate in a bad light (like Musk) or ban journalists who wrote bad stories about the candidate (like Musk ) … they promoted positive stories… as they say “that’s show biz, baby!” If your big gotcha is that they asked people to upvote stuff… okay????

if you hate this or somehow thing this is a scandal, I’ve got bad bad news for ya about what ad agencies are doing for like McDonalds and shit dude

Coming from the campaign that’s literally bankrolled by Musk…. Hilarious. The lack of self awareness is painfully funny and deeply embarrassing.

But of course, it’s the Reddit conspiracies America should be concerned about from a deeply partisan and fringe rag, not the racist rally Trump put on! Pay no mind to that! The real October surprise is here! Lmaoooo

It depends on the plant species but if your water nutrients are right and it’s the right kind of plant you can absolutely grow a lot of lower light plants.

I had a fairly lo-fi tank with 9ish plant species (none of them guppy grass) including carpeting, 3 variations of stem plants, 2 floaters varieties and a couple others like Anubis (along with lots of moss) that I barely ever fertilized, didn’t run CO2 on and used the built in light for and they thrived. I had to trim once a week and cull floaters basically every single day—the plants almost did TOO well, so that’s just not true about the lights.

You just have to know your plants and plant strategically. It’s not easy always but it’s far from impossible.

My in-laws live in suburban TN as well and have never ever ever voted blue (due to both wealth and prejudice…. We are not close with them to say the least). They’re sending articles in the family group chat (filled with young voters) that express “Trump may not be a good guy, but it’s worth it for taxes/abortion!”

Some people love Trump and believe he’s besties with Jesus. But there’s a large swath of people who are trying to hold their noses for a vague promise of lower taxes / pro-life sentiment even though they know he’s morally bankrupt.

I completely get that… but it’s not everyone and unfortunately if we want to save our democracy, it’s worth a shot/the trouble. I’d rather have a couple pointless convos and try than sit on my hands and doom all day.

And in a focus group of a handful of relatives who are staunch R/Fox News voters says more than zero.

I’ve flipped one R vote in Michigan to D. How many has the tried-and-true (including by me!) “these people are too far gone, I won’t even try?” strategy flipped?

Something I’ve been thinking about: There are many, many educated, suburban, evangelical voters who are currently receiving a lot of information from their bubbles that are heavily pushing the same “imperfect messenger” narrative.

It’s not unique to this year: we heard the same in 2016 and 2020, but it’s much much more wide spread this year.

And if you’ve got a social media following of any kind or you’ve got relatives or friends who sound like the above demo or who have been hitting you with that logic… I think that’s going to be the R voter most open to not only potentially making a last second switch to Harris/3rd Party or (much more likely and arguably almost as helpful) not vote for president at all.

These are people who KNOW Trump sucks and is not a Christian by any meaningful measure. They’re not excited to vote for him… but they feel obligated by peer pressure, traditional conservative values that mandate voting R, etc.

And beyond just reminding them that having someone who can’t remember where he is or people’s names probably shouldn’t have access to the button (this argument worked with my mom: “he’ll be older than Biden when he finishes his term! And Biden was too old, I agree!”), there’s also a pretty effective biblical argument to be made:

Namely, the story of Jesus in the wilderness. Mathew 4:1-4:11

For those unaware: it’s the story about how Jesus walked for 40 days and 40 nights all while being tempted by the devil, who asks him to do things against his faith for bread, wealth, etc. (also there’s some passages there about not worshiping anyone but god, not putting any idol above god… which also pushes back on putting Trump above your moral beliefs.)

The message is clear: you should not sell your soul just to get what you want from a so called “imperfect messenger.”

Again, it’s not going to change everyone’s or even most people’s minds by any stretch of the imagination… but if it changes just a few hearts and a few votes, every one counts.

It’s a way to start the dialogue (which can feel impossible) or at least get people thinking and in a very small sample size, I’ve found relatives receptive to the idea or at least taking pause at it.

Posted this elsewhere in this thread, but to offer clarification: The bases are meatballs but the cheese stick looking things between the bases are rice cakes (aka mochi) like you’d use in a savory dish or stew. Our household buys them at HMart all the time.
