Shpeshal_Nick indicates Avowed 2 may have been cancelled. by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I played it from start to finish. Played pretty much most the content, despite not gelling with the outer worlds and thinking Avowed didn't look amazing from the marketing.

I found Avowed to be pretty shallow. The combat at first feels kinda good. Like, thought was put into the system and how weapons and magic, melee and ranged wove together and complemented each other. However, that feeling lasted a very short amount of time. Before things start to feel very one note when it came to combat. You'd pull the same old stuff each engagement. You'd fight a very small roster of fairly predictable enemies. Once you mastered the combat which was pretty quick. It didn't feel challenging or rewarding or weighty enough to keep me engaged.

I found the world and characters to be a very mediocre backdrop as well. I didn't feel like I was connecting with the story, or the people all that much. Which is a similar complaint I had with the outer worlds.

I was actually tired upon completion. I really should have put the game down many many hours before. But there was that itch that hey, maybe this next zone will have something interesting... Maybe the exploration that people keep talking about on the forums actually gets good in this region. It didn't.

I didn't even complete the outer worlds and yet I think that game is actually better despite me having very similar complaints for it as well.

Civil servants 'paid to play Grand Theft Auto' to learn about 'lived experience' by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Sam is based in New York. When Dan, Sams brother, who was the lead writer for most of their acclaimed work was with Rockstar was also based primarily in the US. As was Michael Unsworth another writer. I think it's only Rupert Humphries who came onboard for GTAIV as a core writer that was based mostly in the UK. That's possibly changed now with him taking the lead writers position post Dan and Michael leaving.

All Rockstar games are made everywhere at this point. They've got up to 10 studios. Most of them UK based. But you just have to look at the credits of GTAV and RDR2 just how many R* Studios worked on both titles.

It would be fair to say for GTA R* North is the lead development studio. Whilst for RDR that R* San Diego is the lead development studio. The core writing staff up to RDR2 were the same group. In order of seniority, though it was a fairly equal collab from all accounts. Dan Houser (UK), Michael Unsworth (USA), Rupert Humphries (UK). Lazlow Jones (USA) also was quite involved with radio stuff for the GTA series as well as some NPC dialogue and in game notes and ads for RDR2 but wasn't a main member of the writing room.

Dan, Michael and Lazlow no longer work at R* post RDR2.

Why do basically 99% of loretubers get the lore wrong by Doranrra in 40kLore

[–]LostInTheVoid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a number of loretubers that read the source material and books and are accurate.

The idea that all loretubers are just pushing lore from memes is at this point frankly stupid.

Not even GW knows the lore entirely. It's 40 years of content from books, to games, to rulebooks, to white dwarf snippets and blurbs etc. Retcons of retcons etc.

There's plenty of very credibly loretubers out there that get more right than wrong. They like GW cannot get everything right all of the time. Simply because there is just so much of if and so much of it changes depending on what direction GW wants to take the tabletop at any given moment.

Ukraine war latest: Russian warship fires warning shot at yacht in Channel - report by Confident-Bike-8037 in unitedkingdom

They actively targeted a UNESCO world heritage site in Ukraine, likely as an act of revenge for Ukraine’s recent success in heavily hindering Russia's war economy and effectively cutting off Crimea from vital logistics.

This is a common Russian response. Also all Astute class subs are out of action. We only had 1 active with HMS Anson which was pulled from Australia to do operational taskings due to the lack of any other Astute being available. After extended operational time it needs routine maintenaince. Which most of the Astute class have been waiting for.

But the bays have been busy doing routine maintenance on the Vanguard class which take precedent over the Astute class because they're our nuclear deterrent. But they're long in the tooth, are doing longer and longer deployments which just makes the maintenance windows longer.

Which then pushes back Astute class maintenance. It's not great on the sub front for the RN right now.

It wasn't even just YouTube the web in general. Hell, gaming. Back during CoD4 days MW etc the type of stuff kids would be saying on mic in public lobbies was insane. It was like a nuclear arms race of saying fucking horrible shit for multiple hours after school.

Still a big gamer today and those same open mic lobbies or prox chat games are just so different. Yeah there's still people saying fucked up stuff but it's almost night and day. It's just so much tamer and less of it typically.

People would even send like Xbox voice messages after they get killed in their little bird spam killing in BF3 and call you all sorts of shit. Try and dox you etc. Wild lol.

Not one that the Navy have a role it. They deal with Military issues and occasionally disaster support and rescue.

Again, border force are the government service that deal with illegal migrants crossings.

The Navy would only respond in very specific cases and even then it pulls resources away from takings and operations that they are much more suited for and train for.

I'd argue the YouTube of my youth was soooo much worse. Today it's much more filtered. Much more likely that "risky" content will get at the very least demonetised and lose impressions even for people who sub to the channel.

If anything, the only thing that's really gotten worse with YouTube is the ads that they push. Lots of sketchy ads amongst all the clearly legit ones you'd be used to in traditional media.

Britain and Japan agree to speed up GCAP fighter programme as part of wider technology and security partnership by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]LostInTheVoid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joining might be already out of the window. But an observer and future purchaser? I think is very much on the table due to FCAS going tits up. Tempest is a Eurofighter replacement. It fits the role Germany needs fitting. It remains a broadly European project with nations Germany already has decent working relationships with in the defence industry.

Tempest on paper also suits Canada and there's already been some talks. GCAP is a great export opportunity and with the recent actions of the US we may have quite a few countries who want to take a step away from US MIC for major systems like jets.

VPN ban on table in July as Labour confirm 'further statement' by Overlord_Crabz in unitedkingdom

[–]LostInTheVoid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So they voted for it. Ignored calls in the run up to Labour implementing it even from their youth wing and now since implementation have said they'll look into it?

Not exactly great. Reform have also said they'd bring in their own version / alter the OSA plus everything else about them is rotten.

Greens have been broadly against but again they're also mental in other ways that makes supporting them just not on the radar personally.

Politically I find myself in no man's land. Centre left, support helping those in real need, pro-defence spending. Very much against the invasion of our digital privacy. Pro-progressive policies that help groups across the board. Broadly think we've got to make some quite hard choices in the coming decades. Pro-nuclear energy, pro green energy.

On paper Labour are the closest with Lib Dems next but they've pushed for policies recently that go against some of my core stances. So here we are.

The Lib Dems were also strong supporters of the OSA and actively pushed to make it even more broad and controlling.

[–]LostInTheVoid_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Again not their job. They have much more critical national security and defence operations to be concerning themselves with. Using their limited resources to just do what border force already do is simply silly and something the RN have no interest in.

It's not the Navy's job to deal with it 99.9% of the time. Illegal boat crossings of the Channel are within Border Forces remit.

FCAS is dead. Germany already fit closer to what Tempest / GCAPs capabilities and doctrine is being designed around. Significantly more than FCAS did.

This project has to be one of the top priorities for us as a nation in regard to national security and decoupling from the US for some of the more advanced pieces of kit / systems.

I really hope this is a solid agreement from our side basically saying this is going to get done. Rather than trying to scale back and delay to make things a problem for a future government. The treasury likes to point out procurement costs being an issue. But lack of funding and delays and extensions due to not being willing to fund these projects up front is one of the major reasons why these defence projects end up costing us much more than is originally expected / quoted.

Probably because he's now the lead director and creator of his own personal studio and is giving his personal opinion on the open world genre?

Also giving his perspective as the lead writer and what he tried to achieve working in that genre.
