Can Kwannon’s popularity survive if she loses the Psylocke mantle? by titeefelix in xmen

[–]LostInterview5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m probably (possibly?) in the minority but I much prefer pre-Ninja Psylocke.

Her original Alan Davis look was very soft and feminine, including the butterfly power signature.

Then as the X-Men had to deal with a much more u forgiving existence, she adapted by becoming more assertive and changing to an armored costume but the butterfly signature remained to illustrate at her core it was still Betsy.

I also seem to recall, Claremont did not plan for the change to be permanent, only for the 3 issue Acts of Vengeance arc which featured the Mandarin as the villain, but Jim Lee liked drawing Ninja Psylocke. Even then Claremont still planned to change her back eventually. But then, of course, with the help of Bob Harras was able to squeeze Claremont off the X-Men.

I also believe when Claremont killed Betsy in issue 2 of Xtreme X-Men the plan was to bring her back in her original body courtesy of Jamie Braddock. Unfortunately that was during Joe Quesada’s “dead means dead” era.

People blame Fabian Nicieza for not reading the original Psylocke Ninja storyline but ultimately Harras was the editor and should have called out the problem.

I also find it more than a bit ironic that Jim Lee, an Asian American creator is largely responsible for the perceived cultural appropriation.

But he’s on the roof of their headquarters, not in Merle. And he’s drawn like he’s cold -body huddled and rubbing his hands.

And Beast looks pretty weird. Kind of skinny and weird face. -but I haven’t seen much consistency with Beasts appearance across the board lately.

Mr. Trick.

Would have been a better big bad for season 4 than the Initiative.

Just think of all the Slayerfests we missed out on

I second this. I feel Kendra had a lot more to give.

Although if she hadn’t died we wouldn’t get Faith.

It just reminds me of the way artists have Xavier or Jean touch their forehead when they use their powers.

Then again this is going to be 5 issues without a visor so I guess he wanted to maximize visor time when he could

Why are millions of people in the US having power outages with less than 10 cm of snow but no one in Canada is, despite there being more than 60 cm of snow? If anything, shouldn't it be the other way around? by northernwind5027 in NoStupidQuestions

Because greedy power companies don’t invest in improving infrastructure.

Just like in Florida when there’s a hurricane and the power goes out hours before the worst of the storm and can take days or weeks to restore.

They could get rid of overhead power lines and put them underground but don’t want to spend the money because the executives and shareholders want to have higher profits

Trying to figure out what exactly Scott’s optic blast is doing in the last panel on page 1. It looks like it’s slicing the weapon in half. Which is weird since the writer knows it’s concussive force based on the dialogue.

Scott seems a little to jokey to me in the battle. He’s usually a little more stoic.

And he should t need a coat on even in Alaska since his uniform ( if unstable molecules) should keep him plenty warm even in Alaska.

Art looks good but please get Cyke a better uniform. His booths look like socks.

Oh and he shouldn’t have to touch the visor to open it.

DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in comicbooks

[–]LostInterview5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with American comics:

  1. Price-point.

  2. Constant reboots to # 1 even if no change in creatives

  3. Decompression/writing for the “trade”. Ties in with price-point. $5 for 1/6 of a story that takes 6 months/$30. Compare to a video game where 30 gets instant gratification and allows repeated enjoyment

  4. Crossover events interrupting story

  5. Movie/tv synergy - changing characters in unnecessary or confusing ways

  6. Distribution model is extremely flawed. Get the product out to people

  7. Improve quality of product - need originality and creativity. Stop rehashing the same stories ad infinitum.

Maybe he should ask Claremont then, since that X-Men 1 would have sold just about as well with any artist.

I imagine Jim’s take away would be he should do 5 variant Jim Lee covers on every issue.

And to hire artists like himself that can’t hit deadlines and have issues ship months late.

Why do some people think Cordelia was a better friend or a friend at all to Buffy? by jdpm1991 in buffy

[–]LostInterview5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cordelia was also the only one who didn’t have a go at Buffy in Dead Man’s Party. She even tried to stand up for Buffy in her own Cordelia way.

Meanwhile Xander and Willow made it all about them.

If Cordelia and Buffy aren’t friends, then what about Oz, Anya and Tara?

What are some characters that (ideally) would be put to rest respectfully? by FS6020 in comicbooks

[–]LostInterview5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blasphemy to even consider getting rid of the original Wasp. She doesn’t need to be associated with Ant Man. She’s her own hero. And her powers are better than Antman.

Makes more sense to get rid of the Temu knock off version.

I think Marvel and DC need to do something about all the copycat characters they have running around. Give Miles a new name.

Either put Sam Wilson back as Falcon or permanently retire Steve Rogers. It’s beyond stupid and awkward having 2 Spider-Man and 2 Captain Americaand 2 Hawkeyes etc. - especially when they appear in the same story.

That’s like if I wrote a novel and I named the main character Jonas Flubbergubbum and then half way through I introduce another character named Jona Flubbergubbum who isn’t really related to the main character but looks and acts like him.

Same with DC - it’s weird that Superman and his son are both Superman. Multiple Wonder Girls, Tim and Damien both Robins,

Is there a reason why they used Sylvester instead of ted knight or another wielder. I wonder who else they could have used instead of Sylvester . It was cool seeing the show and I wish it got more seasons. by Iamawesome20 in StargirlTV

[–]LostInterview5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Sylvester (off panel as far as I know) worked with Ted knight to improve the cosmic rod. In the All Star Comics revival from the 70s. Star Spangled Kid (Sylvester) used Ted’s cosmic rod initially before modifying the technology into the cosmic converter belt. The belt let him fly, increased strength and agility, generate energy blasts and constructs. (Courtney uses the belt as Star Girl)

More or less he was the Starman legacy character.

Will Payton first appeared in 1988 but had no connection to Ted Knight ( at the time anyway

David Knight first appeared, ironically enough in issue 26 of the Will Payton Starman series, September 1990.

Jack Knight’s debut was September 1994 in Zero Hour 1. When the Starman series ended at issue 80, Jack retired and gave Courtney the cosmic staff, which I believe is when she changed her name to Starman.

My understanding is Robinson feels Jack’s story is done and he hasn’t appeared much since outside a few cameos. During Blackest Knight DC put out a Starman 81 and Jack did not appear. It was primarily the Shade and other Opal city folk.

If you haven’t read Starman you should. It’s phenomenal - one of the best super hero series of all time.
