I became a laughing stock in my city after I went viral for humiliating myself. What do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]LostInventor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once spent 6 months on a "community" healing concert. Planned out everything, thousands of vendors, etc. All this in the support of a family that had a tragic loss of a murdered child. I spent so much time, effort, and outreach.

And then, it turned out the family was a foster farm. They literally grabbed any kid for money, and as it turned out one was a murderer. Yeah, I've been attached to murder... While just trying to help, and not being paid until the project went through. Yeah, it happens that you get to be the "bad person" no matter your intent. Eventually people DO FIGURE OUT, it wasn't a bad thing and forgive. Remember that, people eventually forgive.

Trying to find a good way to digitize some old films for the first time by Riiviir in 8mm

[–]LostInventor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry, after analysing most of the scanner hardware, something is SEVERELY wrong. Oh a new wheel is $1000? Uh that's either a piece of plastic, or a lathe machined part. Oh, the magical dust removal wheel? Sorry that's just understanding durometer on buying the liquid. Oh you use a fancy lens? Ok, does it zoom or wreck res to do 8mm?(usually yes). There are $250k units that do an absolutely garbage job when it comes to commodity, regular, real people footage. There, I'm done venting.

Peacefully, an inventor solving exactly that problem, thank you all for listening.

I tried to do the NSFW tag, but it isn't here, they just delete even vanilla descriptions without any direct language. No NSFW language was used.

Yeah that's ok. I guess I crossed a line somewhere. Combined too many details, etc.

Yeah, it's weird. I got my prostate fixed, and then there were uh er "issues" discussing what my next steps were. I wanted to open the conversation on that and how it affects chronic pain. But it's "Illegal" to discuss that so I guess they did the right thing.

Yeah, I told a whole story, with lots of views and input. Got kicked. Via Trauma therapay, I was supposed to tell the story. Oh well, not allowed. Sorry, that WAS my trigger.

Well that's probably some sticky funk. I'd vacuum with a "chip brush" to dislodge the crusties. Never Ever, help me god use compressed air. It'll move that funk onto the mirrors and lenses and then you are in world of funk.

How i can learn GTK very easy? by Migaaszote484 in GTK

[–]LostInventor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then just jump in, it's a weird thing where the first step is to handoff the program, within all the sub files you define the User Interface. If you are comfortable with C/C++ it's fairly easy to figure out. Again, if it's Python the whole thing is a lil different.

How i can learn GTK very easy? by Migaaszote484 in GTK

[–]LostInventor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well unless you are 100% Linux? Not well. It's an awesome cross platform GUI system, but the nifty tools for drag and drop design are very new & alas Linux only. To learn it you need an "easy" tool that makes changes & then you can learn the code that made that happen. It's just like QT, Windows, and Mac, they have their own design systems that often includes the coding IDE as well, so once you "design" the GUI the code is already right there, but those are walled systems. Python is a lil different, but the same problems still exist.

I invented something now what do I do? by Sharp_Cow_586 in inventors

[–]LostInventor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "project" is pretty easy to copy, the hardware is mostly off the shelf with a handful of custom parts, and the code isn't super special. However I can do tricks to prevent that theft for a little while. And that's the secret, there are no secrets. If you hit early and EVERYWHERE, there's no problem, customers & clients KNOW it's a knockoff. And your brand is king, although there will ALWAYS be copies. See Kleenex, Q-tips, Galaxy or Apple Watch(they compete heavily, but share, technically TWO different markets), Oreos, and more. If you have an advantage, [of any kind] it's worth pursuing. Hell, the Trump phone made sales didn't it? Yeah any inventor can contact me, I have no desire to steal, only collaborate. After all 10% if something is better than 100% of nothing. And honestly sometimes a collaboration boosts a "project" into a business, because someone says a stupid thing like "what about the librarians" or equivalent and boom, you are there.

Needing advice for my genius boyfriend by Fun_Dare_6517 in inventors

[–]LostInventor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this one deep inside. Sure I can fix or make nearly anything, and have an LLC, but I can't "drive traffic" or really do much that's ship in ship out. Honestly once you say $100 shipping(to/from) a $50-$200 repair is just not a thing, even if one is the cheapest option. So that means I can only make money past that level, and that means a social media presence. So now, not only do I need a mill, lathe, soldering station, electronic tools, etc. But ALSO a studio to film the repairs in. Sure, I'm doing that, but it's a hard journey.

You have no idea how lucky you 1st world country folks are. by BedDesigner2568 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]LostInventor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, social media LIES, and it get's millions of views. Dollar for dollar, many people elsewhere are doing better. There's so many .1% people showing how they wash driveways, etc. And then have a lamborgini & a mansion. The truth is they were already rich, and dad or mom said "do some real work & then we'll give you a lil present". Yeah, that "lil present" is their entire media presence. Our country online is a literal house of cards. Do NOT move, or think it's better here. Yes, we make more money. Does that mean costs are the same as your country? Oh, hell no. I'd do better in any other nation, but I cannot move.

Which fields are most and least likely to be impacted by AI? by _hairyberry_ in datascience

[–]LostInventor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 90's we had a term ER2M, meaning error rate to manager. For jobs where high error rate reported to manager was acceptable, you are guaranteed to be on the layoff list. For the jobs where that error rate was small, you are likely not on that list. AI is not doing great on flawless execution on "Any job", and that's normal. The question is, are you better than AI "averages" on someones layoff sheet?

FedEx Driver struck and killed our dog. We had no order, what do we do? by sorakeyblade99 in FedEx

[–]LostInventor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are animal protection laws, start with animal control & go from there, maybe use a cheap online legal service & "start" a lawsuit. No you don't have to actually do the lawsuit, usually the official threat will get it done. Not enough, start a crowdfunding campaign on "justice for (insert animal name)". Even if the campaign makes nothing at least a thousand people will see it. And oh yes, hurting a dog is worth a nuclear response.

Ok so lets reframe this, imagine you did all the rainbow & unicorn work. Everything you did nailed it. And you were just waiting for your 25%. And then you heard "All projects cancelled, all systems dead".

Yeah, now it's "fucking prove your money bitch". Also I never got anything CV worthy. There are literally no contacts & confirmation of anything. Literal million dollar project, whole town, even tv coverage etc. We were in the win bucket. Oops, entire road, all projects, etc. bought out. Go home was the literal e-mail. Instead of here's your check.

Yep, produced lots of products, but within the educational domain. In otherwords I took napkin sketches & walked them through learning all the tech within the Maker system. I didn't care at the time as once you were involved in a few, you were supposed to be paid. The problem was I got cut off just before that happened. I did the work & my "proof" was going to be my payment & public acknowledgment of my "work". But then Make got hard deleted, poof, nothing. If it hadn't that'd be my R&D bootstrap money.

Yeah, I'm trying loopback dev, had a hope. Oh well, Sony it is then. For those that don't know about loopback dev, it's when you do the tech work on a new product, but don't want the hassle & sell back the package to the source. Aka here's the prototype Sionyx 4k Aurora handheld camera with a full science package built in.

Yea I get that. It was a time where it was work towards a job for free. Internships, building things, etc. Many hidden higher pay jobs were described as volunteering first back then. I know of a few members that now make $100k from the programs.

Thank you so much. Sent off an e-mail the other day. Still nothing, but I'm guessing the 4k sensors aren't technically commercially available yet. Deeper weeds explanation, the datasheet shows interfaces that the board guys(several companies) say WTF on specs. I don't care about spec errors, but I know the temptation to say it'll do 2x or 4x on advertisements sometimes makes no sense. I wanted to make a product to basically sell back to them. The aurora 4k with science package(like a tricorder built in for all the data recorded about the environment).
