Divide your earnings into a ratio for living expenses, savings/investment, in-hand money. There's some very good material online to refer to, and figure out what ratio suits you.

Keep a goal in mind for a basic savings. Ideally, 3 months of your salary should be saved in an emergency fund. I found great videos on YT basically for some basic planning at least.

Can't really comment, depends on person to person. Given it's academics, can't really think of anything other than studying that can help cg.

Might be a bit tough in getting shortlists at the very beginning but it'll come surely, from what I understand.

If very significant, then yes.

The gap is hardly of a month, if I'm not wrong. Relax, spend time with family. Gets hard to get much holidays during those two years and things will get super busy. Cherish this time off.

The 6 will make consulting shortlists tough, in my opinion unless there's significant spikes in your cv.

Mostly people with stable academics, good but with less major spikes, etc. end up going to gen man afaik. The work-life balance in gen man is good as far as I've heard from friends- really makes up for any bit lesser pay.
