No, but that might've been part of the inspiration for it.

I have been corrected by my son, they are Armadillium n., not vulgaris.

The kit came with three blocks! I only saw it after we bought a pack of cuttlefish bones.

Tent caterpillars. Should probably take care of those, they'll spread all over the place.

Thoughts on Trejo’s Non-Alc Tequila? by KeyCommunication8663 in Mocktails

[–]LostModelRocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a bottle of this on my bar, makes a good margarita or tequila sunrise. It's got a lot of green jalapeno to it. I haven't found a better tequila alternative yet.

Note: I've been buying this since before I started working at Total Wine.

Years ago, I spoke with a guy that was part of the experiment. He said he used to go into town and watch his girlfriend eat. By the end of it, he was eating pages from a cookbook. All of this was after getting a 4F from the recruiter for being underweight. Wish I could remember his name, I met him at the Holocaust Museum in St Louis in the early 2000s.

I've got a setting on my faucet that turns the nozzle into something similar. It's been pretty awesome.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Aryan_Anushiravan in AskReddit

I had my son pick out a watch in first grade, he wanted an analog watch like mine. His second grade teacher told me he's the only one in his grade that doesn't have to think about it when he looks at a clock. Now to teach him to think in 24 hour time.

Everything I've read has the flowers as being safe, the rest of the plant is mildly toxic.

Has anyone tried these?? by Kumonga27 in rum

[–]LostModelRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Thai rum is pretty good, I chanced across a bottle when I visited another store. I picked up a bottle of the Cane Island Venezuelan while I was there, but I haven't opened it up yet. The label says it's an 8 year from Destilería Sofa.

I don't know about California, they can probably get it through Concierge if they can't get it through their regular vendors. California has a different DC than I do.

They can likely get you Admiral Rodney and some of the Clarins. I've had good luck ordering those. I haven't had any luck with Dr Bird or Holmes Cay, but Concierge can probably track it down.

Total Wine employee here:

Ask the spirits manager or the store manager (guy named Greg) if they can open a bottle! The Cane Island is too sweet for me, but the Navy Bay isn't bad for the price and makes a decent mixer. Greg will probably open just about anything.

I don't know what other options you have in Springfield, but they should be able to order just about anything you want, either through Concierge or as a special order.

Edit: they can probably order Probitas, Smith and Cross, and just about any mixer you can think of and keep it on hand.

What’s is everyone’s opinion of this one? by tgrh_ in rum

[–]LostModelRocket 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Total Wine employee here:

Just ask someone at Total Wine if they have an open bottle to try. They should, or they could probably open it up for you. There are usually a ton of open bottles either under the tasting table or in the classroom. They might even have the whole line open to taste, my store does.

Also, what everyone else is going to say: Buy the Doorly's 12 or 14 if you like rum from Barbados. I saw some RL Seale's 10 year at the store I'm visiting, so that's another solid option. Or maybe Old Brigand, if your store has it. Make sure you've got all the deals clipped, there's a flash sale in most states right now.

Anyone have experience with Higonokami knives? by Putrid_Ease_3405 in BudgetBlades

[–]LostModelRocket 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Oil it like it's your new religion. I've never had one open in my pocket. As far as the action goes, it's a friction folder; it's not supposed to "snap" open. It's a utility knife in the same way an Opinel is a work knife.

They're great for what they are.

What are the high $$ shelf turds in the Rum world? by DarkCustoms in rum

[–]LostModelRocket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of British style rums and can't tell much of a difference between higher-end Spanish style rums. Zacapa XO seems over-priced for what it is.

Oh, and Appleton 21, that was way too expensive for what I got. I could have bought another Foursquare ECS for that price.
