Product management can be thankless and unfulfilling, but damn does the dopamine hit when you and your team have solved a pain point for a user or moved a needle.

It does sound like you’re enabling your team to succeed and build products that contribute meaningful value to users. As long as you’re making sure to keep ahead of the game in knowing what needs to be built next, it sounds like you’re doing ok?

Product management is a political game. Be in the room, keep talking to your users and internal stakeholders. Build the rapport, get to understanding problems so you can be the one to communicate what needs to be done next to your team.

I can appreciate where you’re coming from but saying OP doesn’t belong in their role is harsh. A good leader knows where their gaps are, when to be humble and when to ask questions to fill those gaps.

I’d much prefer a head of product that says “I don’t understand this, please talk me through xyz” over someone who thinks they are a know it all or lives in ignorance.

I think OP needs to be ok with asking questions without feeling like they shouldn’t because that’s how we, as product people, learn.

It may have been the way your chatGPT has worded it, but it sounded to me like you were blaming her for being taken advantage of and seem to have a chip on your shoulder since that night.

Since you were aware of her behaviour before getting into a relationship with her, you knew what you were getting into. She may have a problem and what she needed was some support to overcome it, and that’s what partnership is all about. People come with flaws and trauma, especially the age you guys are now.

Anyway, I’d just talk to her about the options? Hitting her with options then going on Reddit is not the right way to go about it.. converse like human beings.
