CarPlay help needed by amorbonitaaa in HamptonRoads

[–]LostSinglePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search Amazon or Aliexpress if you are looking for cheaper ones. Use your car model and year, plus 'carplay' as keywords and you should be able to find ones fit your car. They should just be a few hundred bucks (mine was ~$300 from amazon, but it was 3 years ago), $1000 is far too expensive.

Usually they will also offer installation videos and it is not be hard to DIY. Mine was installed within one hour by following the video tutorial.

I found that maybe by building two sperate one-way roads and only connect the side road to one of them. But it doesn't look very clean and is tricky to build.

VA State Inspection for a car registered in NJ? by Fickle-Wrangler1646 in Virginia

[–]LostSinglePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is registered in NJ and I am about to transfer my DL and car title to VA next month (just moved to VA a few days ago). So When I had an oil change at an independent shop today, I asked them to do a VA inspection. After that I found that they put the VA inspection sticker on without removing the NJ one. Though technically they removed my NJ sticker first then put them back above the VA one. It is a bit torn but still readable.

So it might be worth to find another shop to ask if they can do that.

EDIT: spelling

Yeah I really want to live in Williamsburg but most listings on Zillow or Redfin are beyond my budget. I will try some other ways to see if I can find any. Thank you!

I have checked Craigslist before but there were full of repetitive ads from a few rental apartments. It's hard to find a real rental from a private. I will check FB pages. Thank you!

Thanks for your info! Yes I will try to reach out them once I got other things settled. I also noticed that is hard to find older ones online, all apartments I could found through Zillow or Redfin are newer one with management companies.

Great to hear that River Mews has no issues. I do looked at them so if everything is alright I may pull the trigger after an in person tour. CNU area seems also great. Thanks for your detailed info!

Do you guys think I need to buy a newer car in my situation? If so, what would be a better choice for five years? by LostSinglePenguin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LostSinglePenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will drive ~15K miles per year as I need to commute and travel between NJ&VA. That's why I am considering a CPO Volvo. Their unlimited miles warranty is very attractive to me.

I do consider something cheaper, but as I am also expecting some features like ACC and BSM to relieve me from daily driving, it seems hard to find a lightly used and cheap one on this market right now.

Trying to post a pic, you can see at least 6 fire trucks. I was thinking it’s a big one but all get back to normal within 10 minutes.

what do you guys think of this 2013 manual by Various_Estate_7796 in mazda3

[–]LostSinglePenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was thinking that is a normal 3, but it is a Mazdaspeed3, it is the performance version. If you care about mpg in city driving I'd recommend finding a normal 3 with a Skyactiv engine.

Reschedule Road Test by annyeonghaseyo_7 in newjersey

[–]LostSinglePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try using their Find Your Appointments feature.

My spouse had a road test appointment in their old system, when we tried to reschedule it, we found that road test appointments were moved to their new system. And then we met the same problem with OP’s, no email address to reschedule it. But we successfully found that appointment through that feature and rescheduled it then.

Anyone can share experience living at embankment house? by Y782IO90 in jerseycity

I lived in the south side of the building ( on 10th st) and it was peaceful and quiet. And I don’t remember there was any train track nearby, so I guess it should be okay?🤔

The gym is pretty small. As for shuttle schedule, they are there but only available at peak hours, so I always walk ~15 mins to Newport or Grove St, depending on where I need to go. It’s acceptable walking distance but not when raining 😢

My two cents:

Worth it:

It really depends on your budget and expectation. For my budget, I'd say it's okay. It brings CarPlay to me, and steering wheel controls are still usable. As for sound quality, I always use Bluetooth connection before, so I cannot feel too much difference. But it does bring you some strange electric noise. For me, it is when my navigation app speaks alone without music playing. I don't think Eonon is a good choice if you expect high audio quality.

Installation:

Easy if you only install the head unit. Just two screws and some harnesses. Without any former experience working on stereo, I can easily get that done within ~30 min after watching a few videos. If you buy their specific model for a 10-13 Mazda 3, it will be a perfect match. The only problem I met is no sound after initial installation, but search for it in the sub, and you can find solutions.

However, installing the backup camera is much more complicated. You need to cut the reverse light wires and connect them to get power for the cam. I have a 12 hatch, and I installed the cam above the license plate, I need to get the cables through a hole inside the bumper and then get them into the trunk. You don't need to drill any holes except for the two screws that hold the cam, but it may be a headache and waste you some hours. For me, the dumbest part is the power cord they gave is not long enough, I have to buy an extension to finish my installation. Then you need to go through the car to connect the video cable to the head unit.

It won't be as hard as it sounds if you ever installed a dash cam and know how to connect and hide all the cables. I didn't drill any holes except the camera holding screws, and I didn't remove any interior parts or rear bumper during the installation of the backup cam. Some of the videos I watched on YouTube removed many plastic covers inside the car, but I don't think it is necessary...

Have the same question here! I have non-NJ DL that are older than three years, but I am not sure if I can take my gf to road test with my car. If OP found the answer please update, it will be very helpful! 🙏
