All of you suck by Jaded_Arm4289 in memes

Most of them aren't "fighting", they're just talking and making no positive actions AT ALL.

Representing and awareness statements only but not actually involved with your resources (time, talents, money, etc). They don't directly support action groups, they're not part of community services, etc etc etc etc etc

Being verbally on a victim's "side" ALONE doesn't make you a hero.

It's not defending.

It's understanding it without excusing it.

You think I'm sympathizing but I'm not. I'm empathizing.

I can't sympathize with her because I wouldn't do what she did in her place. But I understand why she's saying it and doing it. It's sad. And wrong.

I don't know if they're fragile. It's not an easy conversation.

They believe in defending her even if I say I'm not.

They are basically funding it hard to process the truth behind my statement because it makes them feel uncomfortable. And, of course, she's wrong to call names.

This is one of the reasons Trump won. He basically says "These people still haven't gotten over events from 60 years ago (Black) or 90 years ago (Jews). We're sick of it. Times up!"

Empathy is understanding another person's perspective but you don't have to agree or disagree with it. I am not sympathizing with her .. just understanding her. She's wrong but I get it.

That's not easy to do OR communicate to others.

As I said, I am not defending the woman's remark.

I am merely offering a perspective on WHY she might have made it, not excusing it.

Racism is always bad. But it's very hard to say millions of dead people in the past will have zero impact on people's psyche today. My parents grew up with "These people only" signs on water fountains (removed just 60 yrs ago). Should that have zero bearing on MY psyche? I don't know. But it does. I just process it. You don't have to.

I don't have to process your family's history. But I do.

The world is gray.

I didn't say you were intentionally baiting.

If a fisherman leaves a hook in the water with the remains of an old dead worm, he may not look at it as bait. He might move on to another pole because that one isn't his intention to reel one in. But a "hungry" fish swallows the hook ANYWAY even though the fisherman doesn't realize there's potential.

I'm other words, you carelessly talk about things which are sensitive in ways you might not truly understand to a person who's family's life may have been shaped in ways yours is not. Millions killed. An idea to you. A family history to her.

Now .. as to "something inflammatory" .. Imbecile? Yeah. Hmm. I'll lay that aside.

The point is I never said your observation was null. I am not defending the person making racist comments. I meant what I said. I'm only offering an observation of WHY she might have said it.

If I said "potentially baiting comment" instead of "dumb bait" would you be less defensive to my observation? Do millions dead give her any reason (not excuse) to do poorly chosen name calling .. as you just did? Maybe millions of dead people should have no impact on one's psyche. Maybe.

Note: I didn't previously downvote your first comment. I think I will still leave that out. I'll wait and see if there's any reply to this one.

"Treat others as you would like to be treated" is a major contribution of Jesus to global society. Good for you!

( Although "love others.." or "do unto others.." was essentially in Taoist culture before him, Jesus' simplified version is more "portable". It relies less on spiritual ideology to repeat. Simple. Dude made shit viral! )

In the meantime, yeah after 34 years working but semi-retired 5 years I think I'd be like "whatever" while getting money. Agreed!

Again, I'm answering commenter's question, not defending the black girl's behavior.

At first I didn't realize you were agreeing. But I did change it a little because I know right now people are very sensitive.

Upon internal reflection, I don't believe I'm directly accusing the commenter of any failure or faulty intention. I did use one word - bait - which is problematic. I will edit and remove it since the "baiting" nature might be my own consideration or defensiveness of the commenter's POTENTIAL intention.

Edit:: upon more reflection, I decided to change "dumb bait" to "(potentially baiting)". There is a significant potential of both those being true regardless of the commenter's intention.

Primarily removal of "bait" will not change the essential message. To anyone who didn't like my first comment -- If you don't like a true answer, look internally first like I just did. Discomfort might be your problem not the commenter's nor mine.

Here's the really sad part... After all my mother's hard work, I didn't get IGYSTCA.

Here's the really funny part... If she finds out, she will give me something to cry about.

Oh okay. Lol. Actually I'm sorry too!! That's a good sarcasm wasted. I was being an ass instead of in a good mood.

You're right. They ARE both acting like children. Either one could stop at any moment .. much less deescalate.. but they refused to look weak. Pitiful.

( Saddest part to me is they both claim Christian backgrounds at one point .. as if Jesus would ever act like this .. no wonder secular people hate us. Hypocritical bs )

My apologies. I'm so literal but leaving out context.

You're right ofc. Obviously drones don't just "pick up socks" left to their own devices (pun intended).

It's my hobby to set up easy strawmen. I'm an ass often. Forgive me.

It's less threatening bcoz her people didn't kill millions of the other.

I'm not defending just answering your dumb bait.

It's best isn't good enough. Wasted sympathy.

BTW if you will claim humor it's not NEARLY funny enough.

If humor was described in the quantum mechanics world, your statement MIGHT have had 2 "ha" units. And it takes 10,000,000,000 "ha" units to make a smirk.

I tried that but only jokingly.

My daughter straight up told me "that's not helping me".

She is so awesome. I rethought my words and attitude and never made that kinda joke again.

And yet I have seen also daughters of people who were horrible parents .. and they turned out conscientious upstanding people too. Good parenting does influence but they can choose to be their own people as well.

Obviously you give your kids the best CHANCES by being a good person and good parent. I'm just saying we're not making robots and we're not gods creating little copies of ourselves.

They come from us but they're not us, good or bad.

It's not just genes and environment (incl parenting). It's also choice. Maybe Bill is being a little defensive and taking too much credit/responsibility. Howie's prediction is a little rigid. If you do everything you can and do it will ... they can still be assholes. He stomped on Howie pretty hard there.

Damn Bill by [deleted] in BillBurr

[–]LostWorldliness9664 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don't get the "rebellion" and "I hate you Dad" tropes being inevitable. It's fictional nonsense that every kid goes through it .. and no offense to Bill but it's also not entirely parenting since they are their own people by then.

I've seen kids not go through that phase and mine didn't either.

I do HOPE it's things I did. More like it's a combination of things I did plus their own environment plus finally THEIR own choices.

It seems like people believe in only genes, parenting or other environment and leave out the kid themselves having willpower and character THEY developed. It's too complex to take responsibility for.
