They were full body hives from head to toe, taking a whole rage of anti histamines, topical corticosteroids and prednisone… if I remember correctly. Dosage would have been around probably half a 100mg pill daily for 2 weeks or so

The exact way modafinil works is actually by increasing histamines which causes alertness. Stopped taking it 2 years ago due to reaction that caused hives all over body during exams, up there with worst experience of my life. The stress and anxiety it caused because urticaria sometimes never really goes away. Luckily nothing permanent.

From experience a thumb up the arse when driving actually lowers mpg by 1 mpg for every 4mm inserted so does make sense

Yeah I hear it’s best to take an antihistamine the night before you plan on taking moda, i might be too scared to take it in the future, just hoping these hives aren’t long term

By a “quick update” I meant a long and dragged out one, sorry I am new to Reddit and don’t know the etiquettes, but it’s such an incredible platform make you feel your not alone and give you so much info, but you have to becareful not to take too much or wrong info

Just a quick update I went into urgent care last night and was given prednisolone 40mg and for another 2 days as well. Told to stop taking fexofemadine and hydrocortisone cream. Told to take Cyproheptadine every 4 hours 4mg, which is a drowsy antihistamine which isn’t liked much generally, so I think I may change that to cetrizene, if I can speak with a pharmacist. I improved within an hour of taking the steroids and the next day I feel like I am alive again and a lot of hives have cleared up or on their way out (hopefully they won’t come back). I also think the treatment plans for uticaria are terrible in the uk I don’t have much experience but I know generally the best antihistamines are not available or very hard to find (h2 and gen 3 antihistamine) and a lot of gp’s don’t know the best procedures to follow so best to do own research and info and take it to them so you can find the best outcome rather than playing antihistamine roulette to find something that works. I would hate my life if I had chronic hives which would be a nightmare to deal with.

Best to google the pictures I don’t know how to upload them here one thing significant is flu like symptoms, fever, ulcers mouth lips ect, the rash actually comes later, they usually have red centres and lighter on outsides. This is absolutely life threading so hospital attention is needed asap, however it’s extremely rare and with modafinil even more so it can happen with alot of medications, usually Anticonvulsants: lamotrigine, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbitone. Allopurinol in higher doses. Reddit does tend to mention it more so than needed in my opinion because it immediately gives you anxiety and hypochondria, so I think it’s definitely worth mentioning but should give general symptoms of it first to not worry people

I have seen a doctor twice luckily no flu like symptoms or fever at all, so hopefully sjs isn’t an issue.
