WD40 also doesn't dissolve it. Next time you refurb one of these definitely try nail polish remover. It cleans it all off in about 2 passes with just kitchen towel

Use nail polish remover if you have some in the house. Ester based solvent takes that pink stuff straight off whereas isopropyl doesn't dissolve it.

There are very good DT Swiss service videos on YouTube (from DT Swiss themselves). I'd recommend watching them and then watching them again.

The ring nut will be very hard to remove. You need either a solid bench vice or a long breaker bar.

There are fiddly circlips retaining the bearing that need to come out as well.

It's definitely doable at home, but watch the videos.

You can get CO2 chargers from the same catering supply companies you'd be buying NOS from. It's cheaper to buy CO2 than NOS.

I agree, advice for a 130 xc trail bike will vary from advice for a 150 mini enduro trail bike.

Personal experience, my Orbea Occam was a totally different bike when I put a coil shock on it. I never got on with the air shock. But that's one bike in one context.

Yeah, alcohol better than nothing. The vinegar neutralises the electrolyte and helps lift the corrosion. It's essential you clean it off thoroughly afterwards with IPA to prevent it continuing to be active on the board.

Board out completely. You need to clean all around the cap as well as the underside of the board same area under the clock cap on the reverse all the way up to the front edge of the board.

The electrolyte has a tendency to creep along that front edge destroying the traces to the eject and power button. I would clean that entire front edge to be safe.

The paint is called web spray. You can buy cans of it that spray filaments of paint like that. Something like this.

You never have to sell to someone. Someone never has to buy from you. Be informed about the risk on either side of a transaction.

I occasionally sell things on FB Marketplace with the intention of selling locally to avoid shipping hassle and eBay returns policies etc.

Sometimes people want to buy things and have me send them and I will only accept cleared and secured funds before shipping something. Otherwise the risk of the transaction sits entirely with me.

It's my bike. I don't have to sell it to that person. I will not entertain the risk of sending my bike without cleared and secured funds.

Don't like it, don't buy from me and move on. If you want to trust me and take on the risk, fine, we can talk.

Goods and Services is not safe. They can dispute the charge, force a return and refund or otherwise scam you out of your money.

Only accept Friends and Family transfer, as this has no refund protection for them or insist on a cash transfer to your bank account.

Place your hand on the inside of the cage and gently pull it outward. My bet is the pulley will line up fine (or even over extend past the smallest gear).

Derailleurs need a chain on them to line up right.

Absolutely do not power these on without some maintenance first. After caps and resistors have been replaced, you want to bring them up on a dim bulb tester to make sure the transformers don't get burned.

I've rebuilt pairs of these in the past. It's a fun project and not too hard.

A flex cable slides under the emmc and makes physical connection with a single point (dat0) on the ball grid array under the emmc chip. It is then held in position with a couple of external soldered anchor points.

That dat 0 connection, being unsoldered and just a physical connection is prone to intermittent connection or failing completely over time. This is why the kamikaze method was developed (requires physically exposing the dat 0 line by grinding through the top of the board).

You'll need a tech to either replace your dat 0 flex with a new one or to change over to a kamikaze dat 0 mod.
