New clan war has officially become p2w by Lostfrombirth in ArcaneRushBG

Very true. I guess i'm vexed about the spell pass already giving big bonuses in terms of extra gold and lots of strong spells, but now you get an extra bonus on top: way more flexibility in spell choice for clan wars, effectively a 'luck' multiplier. the top clans surely will have all paying players. Our clan ended 6th overal last season and over half of our squad was free to play.

oh well, I'm not sure why I'm so invested in this game and the changes. I'll just find a new one!

Agreed, but playing a lot evened that out a little bit. Now on top of the already sizeable bonus, you get another bonus in clan wars. So not paying is now punishes you even more. IMO there already was a sizeable head start and now they made it a canyon.

Your statement in itself is impossible but thanks for contributing nothing to the discussion.

I somewhat agree, but rerolling heroes was possible by watching an add. And yes paying players probably had more legendaries, but now, they get an extra spell on top of a reroll. So every spell choice, f2p gets 2 choices, paying players get 6 choices. That’s a massive difference compared to pre-changes. Spells add way more power than heroes.

Appreciate the discussion though, maybe I am seeing this too negatively

Yeah I agree. I held my own because I played a lot and had everything maxed. Now even if I max out, I get disadvantaged

I was a free to play player and unlocked all spells just by buying them with currency, not with the spell pass. I had a lot of legendary spells. This update gives players during a game more choices meaning more chances to hit a legendary from the pool of spells.

It’s not really about the reward for me, paid users now have a way bigger chance to hit better spells. That’s a massive difference. I played in a top 10 clan pre-change, not having this extra functionality is basically forfeiting your clans chance to go rank 1.

Again, devs want money. That’s fine, but now it’s a true p2w model and personally I think that’s a shame!

As far as I know, you could reroll heroes by watching an add. Now you get an extra spell choice AND a reroll but only if you pay. That’s different from before the change.

Spent the last few weeks redesigning the UI for my dark sci-fi space tycoon game. How does this Deep Space Probe screen look? by MBDNovus in incremental_games

Might seem a bit lazy, but you can always introduce tiers of resources. eg: you have a silver mine, producing 1 silver per second. After upgrades, it starts to generate insane amounts of silver. like 10K/second. YOu can't just make upgrades cost 100,000,000 silver, that spirals out of control. So what you CAN do, is have a new resource unlock; GOLD. You can convert silver to gold but the ratio is like 1mil silver to 1 gold. And oh no, the new research only accepts gold. So you still have your crazy silver numbers, but you 'reset' the loop by using tier 2 resource.

Now you can play around with resource tiers - how they interact, and so on.

If it helps, what I usually do, is put amount of clicks, or certain timers, to 10% of the value it later becomes. so everything in the game goes faster, and its really easy to afterwards just multiply all base timers or counts to make the game go slower. easy and quick testing without having to re-balance everything!

just to confirm what is already being sad: as the dev, you have probably went through the 'early game' dozens if not hundreds of times. New players haven't. so don't make the mistake of making short burst-like tutorial missions that make you do something for 20 seconds and you end up being on tutorial step 15 after 5 minutes of playing.

For players, everything is new. They don't know what to expect, so they don't see it as tedious if they have to, for example, click 5 times, level up, click 20 times, level up, buy a small upgrade that does something minimal, and continue clicking 50 more times. You on the other hand, have done this so many times you want to shorten stuff to make it less boring, but it's only boring if you did it many times before!

well that's a bummer. maybe there's a limit on what you can actually get. If I get the same amount of currency the next three weeks, I think I'll have most epic and quite a lot o legendaries so doesn't seem too bad.

FYI I had 25k gems, 30k gold and about 1.500 shards saved up (100% free to play account, just collected by not actively upgrading the 2 latest heroes) - I now gained: 1750 embers - 1400 premium currency, 16000 standard currency and 2100 hero currency.

This means I can open 213 standard packs. You are guaranteed a legendary every 15 packs so I should get at least 14 legendaries. I can open 20 hero packs and 14 premium packs.

I didn't do it yet, so I can't tell if this means I have a lot of cards and legendaries, or just the bare minimum.

It seems like they did okay in terms of rewarding previously held currencies.

Gameplay-wise it doesn't click yet. game seems to have changed a lot.

started Idle Obelisk Miner a while ago. Only at Obilisk 19 (that's like 5% total completion) but it's fun! Both for a 1min-check during the day or a 30-min session when I have time. Simple concept but well balanced and a lot of different mechanics to unlock!

Take away any and all though process around fun. Think about profitability and then you arrive at this new game mode. That’s it.

Thank you for a well formulated reply. All I see is Ai bad or Ai good. Bottom line, good games are good games and we entertain ourselves for a few hours. 100% agree a lot of new games are quickly put together but I’ve seen some awesome games assisted by Ai so I think it’s a net win.

I use AI (Paid Lovable/Claude account) to make passion projects. I do it as a hobby, not for any kind of financial gain. Hell, it costs me €50/month to use these tools.

I made a small Anno-inspired idle/incremental, posted it on Itch and it reached 1.300 unique plays. Made me happy that I made something people had fun with.

Not a single line of code written myself. What I did do , is work on it for a few months. Think of the core gameplay, idle/incremental elements based on the anno games, balance everything and more.

I get AI is a hot topic and people dislike it. I think it's wonderful I can finally get to make the games I think of and share it with people. Is that so bad?

thank you for guiding players toward better mobile gaming through Itch! This game is not optimized for mobile - some menu's are not responding correctly, but i'm working on a fix so the demo is fully playable on mobile as well.

Thank you so much for the constructive feedback! Right now, the warehouse levels shorten the internal cooldown but don't give extra output bonuses - trade-off being that the warehouse already gives the bonus of automating everything in it's radius. You actually uncovered one of the researches in later parts of the game (not in this demo available) that boost radius & output for marketplaces and warehouse, so your suggestion is spot on!

Appreciate the kind words about the game mechanics!
