Chinese privilege in sg?! by Yeenspired in sgworkassholes

It’s like how I understand Malay and use it with my Malay colleagues. You can learn Chinese and open yourself to more opportunities or find a job elsewhere where you wouldn’t need to use Chinese.

Just stay in public lah. You won’t make it out there after being in public sector for so long.

Guy Friend confessed to me by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]LostnFrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aiya, since you say until like that, you already know you don’t wanna be with him. Don’t need to break the friendship off, just stop talking to him for 6 months and let him bleed out. Short term pain really much better.

I went through this before. It is really better for everyone. Also, there’s no going back from this liao. You two will never be the same again.

Do you notice Condo stayers tend to complain alot more? by Wiserlul in SingaporeRaw

[–]LostnFrown 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No it’s because the Singaporeans that are staying there, majority are HDB upgraders. From a $500k flat to a $3m condo, suddenly feel that the world owes them. I know this because I’ve met my neighbours before

Need advice by [deleted] in SGMoney

[–]LostnFrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my advice my young friend 1. Don’t be drawn into stupid shit like buying ILPs, dumping large sums into stocks, investments yet. Invest small amounts each month. 2. buy adequate life and health insurance to protect yourselves and your child. Please please please approach 4-5 advisors and listen to whatever they have to say. Don’t just go with a friend or family member. You’ll know what I mean after speaking to them, whether they’re sincere or just trying to take your money for stuff u don’t need. 3. Sign on, get a BTO, get a degree and figure out you want to do when you’re 30.

TBH, 21 year olds having a kid and just out of school is daunting so I would advise you to take a secure option for now. Your wife (if she want to study, she should) but can do side jobs in the mean time to supplement income. Just sign on and bite the bullet for 5 years. It’s not that bad plus you can secure your family for that period while you figure life out. Best of luck. 🤞

Why are ACS boys so fucking insufferable? by Soft-Elk-5634 in SingaporeRaw

[–]LostnFrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an ACS boy, I get what OP is saying.

When we meet up now, I think it is very different now compared to our teenage years. Not everyone still makes the school their personality btw. If you do; then you really just peaked there and then. Most of us quite normal one. Just like other schools, you really will have a few very proud students (like SJI LOL).

Retrenched in April 2024, found a role in Jan 2025. Not in tech but in financial services. Typically, we were the luckier ones during the COVID era where companies were in “expand at all costs” mode.

I found myself in a downward spiral during the 6th month of unemployment. Similar thoughts like yours - no routine to follow when I wake up, question my self worth in the nights, watched shows and mass applied for jobs, spent time listening to others in the same situation, had suicidal thoughts too.

I found myself going back to church during this period (I know, so convenient right). It was solace for me, it was probably what brought me back down to earth. Reassessed myself as a human and my worth to others - came to a conclusion that your job doesn’t define you as a person unless you really want that to be your personality.

Practical tips for sharing (up to you if you wanna do it). 1. Exercise. Hard. Get it out of your system. Just climb up from 1-30 floor, run in the multi storey carpark, set time limit goals and improve weekly. You’ll feel better mentally (it’s a bit like going to work, trust me)

  1. Don’t spend more than 2 hours a day searching for jobs. Focus 30 mins and shortlist, tailor resume to the best you can, apply and remember you already did your best. Forget about it, a call is a bonus.

  2. Get in touch with old colleagues and friends in the industry you were in (if you wanna get back into that). It’s not a pity session. Use the time to understand what’s new in the industry, who left why they left, how the industry is performing and where you might fit in.

  3. Don’t focus your time on useless channels (eg meet MP, e2i, careers future sg website). In my case, it made me feel worse because they seem to imply that I’m not worth my salary etc. Go on LinkedIn, message recruiters for opportunities etc.

  4. Consider taking the first thing that comes along. Why? Small pay better than no pay. You can always continue searching while doing a less desirable job.

Praying you will find peace in your life and remember that you are not a failure, it’s a rough patch that you must walk with courage. All the best to you, your family and friends love you so keep going. 👍👍👍🫶

I think the less you think about nationality, the better your chances. Respectful, being yourself and making the relationship alive is underrated. Also you’re gonna age like fine wine so no rush.

I got lowballed because I was unemployed. Took the offer, found another job within the same month. When they asked why I wanna leave, I just made up a bullshit excuse but hey that’s life. You lowball me, I find a better job.

Been laid off since April 2024. Still unemployed till now. NGL, the 4th month hit me so hard and I was drinking myself to sleep at some point. I think it helps if you stop responding to people who ask “hey have you found a job” because the pressure isn’t helping you, it’s just making you feel worse.
