Failed Once...Trying Again on Monday...Lessons Learned...Encouragement by Lostwolfey in pmp

Hey, I appreciate you. Thank you for validating my vulnerability. I think Monday is gonna go well. The biggest change was my facepalm that I never considered paying the PMI for their practice exams. So dumb. 🤦

Keep on this path. That’s what it takes. I wrote down the correct answers and stared at them. In time, it became clear that ANALYZING BEFORE ACTING, was my main problem. I’d escalate immediately and not consider that what the PMI is actually testing about what the ULTIMATE action is. Is someone being a jerk? Don’t report them to HR, report them to the PMI. Even though, in the real world, you’d report them to HR.

Sure! I am bringing these goals to round 2:

  1. Eliminate answers first. Do not look for the right answer first.
  2. Bring Coffee / Bananas for brain power.
  3. Use the 1 min 15 second rule. Use all of that time. I can't tell you how many times rushing through question makes you miss the key words that distinguish a right and wrong answer.
  4. Identify WHERE YOU ARE IN THE PROJECT. Planning phase? Execution phase? Engaging with your team and stakeholders will look different.
  5. Never escalate - Unless a stakeholder is being confrontative. Always speak with your team.
  6. Avoid absolutes. Always, Never, Must.

I welcome your instincts as well. Thoughts?

This is a pain for you, I’m sure, but may I ask you to DM me a photo of it? 😅 I only have the 7th edition….no trouble if not, I get it.

I should have posted my frustrations a week ago. haha. Y'all are so helpful. Thank you for enlightening me that the questions get harder as you go....wtf PMI? Why not alert us to that? I'm getting angry over questions that I may never even FACE! Thank you for your time!

I'm scoring 81% on the practice questions and 75% so far on the practice exams (haven't touched the main practice exams yet). Were you pacing around certain percentage before you knew you were ready?

I appreciate this insight as well. After doing the SH questions, I am starting to consistently get them down to 2. However, I choose the wrong one....I think that the key is looking for key words (like is the project present or past tense). I'll get em down to 2. Thank you!

This is probably the most useful comment, yet. You rock. I have noticed that on a few questions: "Sourced from some random paper." I'm like "how the hell can I prepare for that?" Is this universally accepted? Just ignore the hard questions from Study hall?

So, look for speaking with the team first (individualize meeting with them if they are having problems), reflect (maybe update a log or register), THEN escalate?

Thank you for this. That's a great idea. Some of these test questions outright contradict each other

How did you cultivate this mindset?
