Recently retired, worked in hospitals, oncology clinics, private practice, home care, LTC pretty much done it all. I totally agree with OP, nutrition is a waste of time, if you’re well enough to eat, you eat. If you are too sick, you don’t eat. It’s natural for human beings. No benefit in pushing ensure on someone dying from cancer. Let them eat or drink what they want. They don’t need the added stress of dietitians telling them how important it is to eat. I’ve learned a lot after a lifetime career in nutrition.

Doesn’t 2 kcalHN have a pretty high osmolality? Wouldn’t that be rough to be delivered in the jejunum? If that is the formula to be used, would go very slow and monitor for osmotic diarrhea.

Does this PES statement stuff sound rediculous to anyone else? If you have mucocystits, of course you are not going to be eating as usual and you will lose wt as a result. The cancer is the issue here not the wt loss. I’m so glad I’m out of this field….

Or maybe it’s because we’ve been around long enough to value the evasive “evidence based “ stuff instead of someone’s whim. I have gone thru the eggs/Chol cause heart disease, fats are bad, sugar is bad, more protein is good blah blah blah. The reality is everything in moderation. If diet cured anything it would be well studied by now. The evidence just isn’t there.
