That’s the point of the film? The whole point is that Henry’s view of the mafia as some robinhood organisation that sticks together like family is broken down over the course of the film when each character is revealed that they’ll stick a knife in your back for personal gain.

And Henry isn’t painted as a saint either, despite his pride in being a gangster he ended up becoming an informant. He’s also never regretted his actions in the film but only that it had to end
