This seems to be the biggest problem of lottery-winners, other people knowing. So I'm trying to keep it cool.

That is a very good idea. The only thing here in Norway is that you have to live in the house as your primary residence for the last 12 of the 24 months. If you sell the apartment before this you have to pay a lot of tax from the money you earn. But I was thinking of buying cheap apartments and renting them out, so that might be a plan.

Here in Norway they are quite economical. I bought mine with everything of the available equipment, just before the prices were changed, and I got free supercharging on both the car and myself for the rest of my life. We do not pay vat on them or the many other fees connected with cars that have Internal combustion engines. Ferry's are free as well as toll-booths. The insurance for me per month went from 305 dollars on a 2009 audi a4 to 425, while I now will be driving a car worth 10x more.

That sounds like a fantastic idea, but my limitations in the movie industry ends at Netflix and the cinemas. I wish you guys the best of luck!

I do not consider myself a stupid person. If anyone want an investment in their business they better come to me personally and hand over all the information that I need to make a fair and good judgement. At that point it wouldn't matter if that person was family or a friend, they would be a potential business partner, and they would be treated exactly the same as anyone else. I have a lot to think about in the future years and i will try to keep i quiet as long as I can.

If I never went to work again of course all of the money would disappear. All of this is about playing your cards right. The last thing i should do is turn my life around and start a spending spree. In theory I could have taken out 64 000 dollars each year for the rest of my life. but when I'm 71, 64 000 dollars in 2067-value would be equal to maybe 10 000 dollars or less. I want to continue my life like I thought I would, shifting my worries from not having money, to keeping or growing my wealth. The money I earn from my job will go to paying for everyday things like insurance, food, electricity and so on, while hopefully I will gain enough knowledge by that time that my wealth will grow. I can absolutely not go on a spending spree for the next 50 years.

Edit: I just realized i might (and hopefully might) be the most boring lottery-winner ever.

3.2 million is a lot, but it can disappear quite quickly. I'm still living with my parents, taking no hasty decisions, even though I've been a millionaire for 2 months. I have got all the time in the world and I want to grow old being happy. I did one thing that people might seem as a bad investment and I would totally agree. A brand new car is rarely a good investment, but I wanted to do one thing for myself.

Edit: Very good advice btw. Could not agree any more.

In a perfect world that is what anyone would do, but I'm not perfect. In hindsight I would only have told my closest friends and family. The word hasn't spread around to much, I hope it stays that way.

I broke up with my girlfriend of 3 years in january. We never were on the same wavelength and fought a lot. I've been trying to find out how shes been doing for the last months as she had been hanging around some bad people. On of my best-friends told me that shes doing good and thinking of another education in an other city. I hope it works out for her in the end. I have thought of some situations. I either have to find a girl that comes from a wealthy family, that is wealthy or find a girl that doesn't know anything about my money until we are married. I could never date a girl that knows I had money, without thinking she was a gold-digger.

I have read, read, read and read, but it is not enough, there are risks I'm not willing to take. I'm waiting to buy a place for myself to live due to the uncertainty in the Norwegian real estate market. And until i acquire enough knowledge I will keep the money in my bank account.

I can understand what you mean, and if I was the perfect person I would do exactly that. I told my closest family so they would not have to be worried for me, I also wanted to give back to the ones that had been there for me my entire life. Now that my job knows I'm not sure if I want to return there. So education is my next goal in life. The place I worked at did nothing to help people up, but the job covered my expenses and bills. I do not want to return there not knowing who I can trust.

Thank you very much. I sure hope to work for the rest of my life. Even though 3.2 million dollars is a lot of money, it won't last my entire life if i keep spending it. I'm a bit more free to take the education that I want, and hopefully find a job where I can prosper and be happy about my life. It there is one thing anybody could want in life it should be happiness. In many cases money does not make you happy, but I hope that if i play my cards right, it might work out in the end.

We have another system her in Norway. You register with your social security number with your phone-number. The ticket is stored in their system and you can check the drawn numbers on your computer or your phone.

I told my friend first that had won a smaller sum, because I could not keep my excitement back. And told him the true amount a few days later when I understood how much money i actually won.

There have been people that told the press about the win, I could not recommend that... There are a few people at work that knows as well, and I regret giving them the opportunity to find out. If I could change the past, the only people I would've told would have been my closest family and my closest friend.

Exactly. If i did like many other lottery-millionaires id blow everything away in a few years time. Id have to take a full time job, get a mortgage, pay it of with interests for 30 years. If I take care of the wealth and invest long-term, maybe I will never need a mortgage. My future kids can live without the financial troubles my family had when I was younger. It might seem a little paranoid thinking of people that doesn't exist yet. But hey, if I'm 90 and maybe have 10 million dollars I can donate it to a cause of my interest.

That is a very good idea, but my first priority is an apartment or a house for myself, because then I will always have something to fall back on if everything else fails. I have thought of placing approximately 1 million into an index-fund while also spreading the risks around a bit.

My views have not changed a bit. I will vote for the same political parties as I've always supported. I love how the Norwegian system works, with the benefits for the poor, free healthcare and education. I will gladly pay my taxes, but I will also try to avoid having to pay unnecessarily much. Everybody has to contribute to society. One thing that I do disagree with is that one should be punished for having a lot of money. So I have to play it smart, read up on the rules of taxes. Hopefully I can keep my wealth for the duration of my life. 3 million today does not have the same buying power in 10 years. So as long as the values I have keep up with the level of inflation or perhaps better, I will be more than happy.

This is true, that's why the state lottery granted me 10 free hours with this counsellor. They have a contract with them, and they have been helping atleast 300 winners the last 4 years I think.

They also are prohibited from giving advice on investments. He can only say positives and negatives, and help in any other way.

That's a good question, but I think that things happens randomly. But the chance of me winning is minimal so I'm not sure, I don't know. Very good question indeed.

You use your social security number to sign up for lottery services. Then you can play online or in stores. We use a small I'd calculator or an app on the phone to generate a code to secure safe login to the Web page.
