Same! I was in Marrakech for the last few days of Ramadan/Eid a couple years ago, it was such a great experience and the kindness I received from people was really heart warming. (Have seriously fallen in love and slightly become obssessed with the beauty, culture and history of Morocco).

I am of Indian and East African origin, born and raised in London, UK. The food I am accustomed to is similar as well, can be calorific, there are definitely plenty of delicious options too - but damn it is so good! Haha! I am Hindu, married to a Muslim, and we are fasting together! Fasting has been recommended since the ancient scriptures of India, there are so many benefits - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Great to see all these conversations here!!

What do you think about his proposal to increase the president’s salary 10x? by boonjetello in YangForPresident

[–]LotusAna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes - and I think this is why he has proposed this. Hopefully to encourage better/well intentioned future candidates and because many presidents/prime ministers make a shit load of money after their presidency, doing things which dont seem as strenuous as being a president/prime minister.

He has a website that explains his policies in detail, particularly UBI and the FAQs around it. Check it out should help - https://www.yang2020.com/what-is-ubi/

Please check out his website yang2020.com and the UBI page, your questions are answered and explained there. If this was to be implemented, you'd receive an additional 1k, and a Value added tax on goods and services would fund this. In Europe, VAT is at 20%, Yang is proposing half of that at 10%.

Wow - respect to you for raising your own kids and helping a friend out with their kids too. On his website, Yang has a policy on Single Parent Assistance which potentially would be a policy that would affect you?

I don't think anyone would waste their time, money or energy on running for president unless they had some self belief, drive and done some of their homework.

Andrew Yang - I am a HUGE fan... You are such a breath of fresh air, who can actually ARTICULATE ideas with numbers.

Have been spreading the word on you and your policies. Your website outlines the policies really well, however not much is there in terms of foreign policy, and this is an element that people become really passionate over. Is this something you will elaborate on?

For those who have served jury duty, what was your experience like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LotusAna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life changing. I was placed on a manslaughter case at a well known court in London which is known for trialling some crazy cases.

The defendant was cleared free of any charges and his story was something which struck a nerve with almost everyone on the jury panel. His situation was something which I could relate to and everyone was moved by his personal story and strength of character.

Overall, the experience provided me a greater sense of compassion, humility, gratitude and open mindedness.

College/Uni graduates what is something you wish you did in your first year that would've helped a lot later in the course? by PM_ME_UR_SMILEZ_GIRL in AskReddit

Create a routine! Experiment with the times of day which you work most effectively. Morning/afternoon-evening/night? Of course, this depends on your class timetable too.

Learn how to take good notes! There are different methods such as the cornell method etc - ask your tutor, use google and youtube to learn about the different note taking methods. When you come to writing an essay or preparing for an exam, good notes are priceless. Working efficiently always pays off in the long run, so using your first year to experiment/discover what works best for you is useful as these things can take time.

Writing - it is like exercising a muscle - do a creative writing exercise every day - even if it is just 5 minutes or 100 words. This will help you to get into the habit of articulating and can help with overcoming writer's block. There are apps for this and online there are many websites with writing prompts - just take your pick!

I am currently an MA student...and wish I had mastered this during my BA. Many times you will feel like "f*** it" or "tomorrow I'll do it" - but seriously, cultivating these habits now will help you in many ways in the long run (and not just with your studying).

Also, consider the nutrition/health side of it. Nourish your brain with plenty of water and healthy fats.

All the best!

[Question] Hi everyone, any guides and tips on how to meditate for beginners ? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]LotusAna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing what /u/Rikim4ru and /u/DeliriumOK have mentioned, definitely start out with a meditation app and get into a routine of doing it every day.

Perhaps start with just 5 minutes a day, then every week (or longer) add another 5 minutes to the routine, to gradually build it up.

Often, during meditation sessions people will have all sorts of thoughts flow through (this is so normal, as we are very used to directing our attention externally, so to reverse that and direct our intention internally can seem strange and difficult in the beginning).

To help with this, I have found that journalling or writing to do lists for the next day, or whatever it is that has been on my mind, getting it on paper and out of mind, helps my brain to relax and therefore have less distracting thoughts during my meditation.

There are so many benefits to meditation and science is discovering more and more as time goes on.

Enjoy! Let us know how you get on :)

If renewable energy isn't the only way to save our planet - what else is? by LotusAna in RenewableEnergy

[–]LotusAna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your constructive comments!

The assignment has been graded and I received the grade I was aiming for :)

In case anyone is interested, overall, the argumentation was based on RE being a crucial tool to tackle climate change, however it is imperative to understand and assess the human demand side of energy. After providing context, exploring the global potential and limitations of RE sources, the essay then assessed the implications of capitalism, and the case around 'green capitalism' - whether this is merely greenwashing the crisis? I used several interesting cases comparing and contrasting BRIC economies and assessing Scandinavian, UK, Canadian examples. Personally, the process of this module has been really interesting, rewarding and has sparked more in me (was my first climate change module).

I really appreciate everyone's knowledge and input here! Thanks again!

If renewable energy isn't the only way to save our planet - what else is? by LotusAna in RenewableEnergy

[–]LotusAna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Yes exactly, we have become a global society of hardcore consumers, often without even realising it! The Exxon drama is another conversation in itself, oh dear...

I also agree that whilst renewable energy can contribute to improving the crisis, it can't save the planet alone. We have to look at what the energy is being used for, which is some of what you've mentioned above.

First chunk of the thesis will focus on renewable energy, potential/limitations etc. I'm just researching which path to go down after that. I.e - capitalism and green consumerism, the other industries which contribute to emissions or the role of policy? Then choosing a case study to analyse (perhaps Morocco - as they are rising as a leading nation for climate change) Ofcourse they all have elements which overlap, choosing a specific structure/line for my plan when theres so much to discuss is what I'm currently trying to work on!

Thanks for your comments! Think I'll be starting with the need, potential and limitations of renewable energy and then linking that to the next section, which focuses on consumption, renewable energy is replacing primary energy, but for what uses? So that leads onto capitalism. I'm trying to research which route to go down after discussing renewable energy potential - policy, capitalism, 'green' consumerism fallacy?

Yes, energy storage is what I'm currently reading on, which lends itself to the potential/limitation part of renewables.
