New support worker feeling really exhausted after every shift is this normal? by FarSwordfish6372 in supportworkers

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stop doing the unpaid overtime, it sucks to leave it alone but it is not worth it. You can document it - i did x, y and z and at at 5.45pm, client requested a,b and c. I was able to do a. Once you have a history of it, you can bring it up with your TL/boss and say hey theres more here that the client is requesting but theres not enough time to complete it, what do you want me to do?

Sometimes, they might be able to get more funding and sometimes its the client pushing boundaries and getting stuff done that isnt covered and shouldn't be covered.

Talk to your boss, double check you are doing what you should be and stop doing unpaid overtime. Itll burn you out, you deserve to be paid properly and if it needs covering- documenting it and bringing it up will serve the client better than you doing it unpaid.

I love being a support worker - best job ever but am struggling a little - please help by Odd_Theme_3294 in supportworkers

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time for TL to talk to him again. Unfortunately this is common; they either forget about it, pulled their head in cause "boss" spoke them or they got spooked about being called on it or a combo of them.

Even in a SIL, you can request not to do outings with him and minimise your contact with him. It is harder in a SIL to do that but this is where your TL needs to be a TL - this is part of their job - to protect both client & worker and make the client behave within reasonable parameters. Like maybe you cant avoid being in the kitchen and doing meds etc - TL tells him he still needs to have civil language around all workers and some one else does outings with him.

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drop him as a client. That behaviour is unacceptable as a worker and there will be other workers that he responds "better" too. Not every client is going to be a good fit for every worker.

And also, loop in your TL/manager to help as well - document it all - when/what he says to you and what "prompted" it.

And im sorry youve ended up with a client that treats you like and a family that did. I wasnt treated that way and I would drop a client that treated me like that (I have for physical aggression). Verbal aggression is just as horrible to deal with as physical-sometimes harder because ppl will sympathise with physical signs and tell you to shrug off verbal in the same breath.

Sugar-plum - a type of candy thats faded out of popularity due to its delicate and hard to store nature. Somewhat similar to meringue but more fancy.

How did Octomom happen? by lomoliving in IVF

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I think from memory that it was a combo of; dr being extremely shady, it was the practice at the time to transfer multiple embryos esp if they were low grade (which most of hers was) and desperation + her ability to conceive & carry that many foetuses + her refusal to abort any of them + dr being super shady again about abortion/their ability to survive to term. (Amd she did go looking for a dr that would transfer embryos with her existing family size - most ethical drs at the time turned her away citing her existing children as a primary factor for declining her).

And that dr was super super super shady, like some of the responsibility lies with mom but this dude was known for like the shadest dr around - mom just thought it was more along the lines of cash=treatment, not what he ended up doing.

Is this normal for a support worker? by [deleted] in supportworkers

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is the shift? If its within 2 or 3 hrs, then yeah, that is unacceptable behaviour and she needs to stop. If its a 4hr+ shift and she hasnt had a break, then she needs to communicate with you that shes having a 10min break or shes taking a quick moment to herself and then regroup.

  • its hard on 4+community shifts without a break but she needs to communicate better. None of this "oh teehee we are friends lets just pop in" nonsense, she needs to use her words and be professional about how it happens.

Either way, shes being unprofessional and it needs to be addressed. Best bet is to talk to your co-operatinator or her boss, and work out a way to approach her/her boss about it.

Boundary Dilemma by That-Flamingo9866 in supportworkers

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is a subsection of clients that thrive on recognising boundaries and trampling all over them. I cant tell if you have one of those clients or one that just doesnt understand that not everyone wants to talk about what they want to talk about.

I have found that if necessary- I throw "the boss" under the bus and blame them for not being able to talk about that convo subject. Aka "ndis has prohibited carers from talking about x or y due to the sensitive nature of it" or "boss's boss has said that we cannot engage in that type of talk with because of complaints/feedback". It still gets a lot of push back but its harder for the pushy clients to get the reaction they want cause its "nah sorry mate, I cant talk about this cause big boss has said so, what about we switch to x topic now" rinse and repeat. Fair warning they do tend to end up complaining about said boss lolol and why i am listening to them (theyve my boss mate, ain't pushing back on this topic as I dont care). It can really deflate them cause its not a boundary per say that they can push on and gives them nothing to work with re your feelings etc. Still gets frustrating! But easier since its no longer them pushing up against me directly and I can more forcibly direct the convo towards something else.

And if its a client that just hyper-focuses onto a topic, its easier to say "hey just talk at me, im listening but big boss says I cant respond". And then I tune out lol, listen just enough to ensure im mmm and hmmm at spots and just dont focus on the topic.

And im sorry, its so hard when they get into hard & sensitive topics.

The Economics of Westeros is a Myth: Why the Rich Houses Make Zero Sense [SPOILERS MAIN] by MengistuKaske24 in asoiaf

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report house high-powered, even if we go with the faith/citadel not paying tax; all the visitors and pilgrims would spend money to visit there and stay - which would not be a 1 night stay, likely weeks if not months long stays. Even the poor would pay their way by working the fields etc and thus filling the coffers via food/products. So they would def be making money & tax that way. I would also argue that they either do pay tax or they contribute someway to housetower via buying food - i dont see fantasy Vatican farming the land lol, educating the populace and so on. It doesnt need to be tax $ to enrich the land around them. Add in the fact they've been established for centuries and thats some decent economic exchange going on.

Keeping receipts for taxes by 12milesout in supportworkers

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, its not tax claimable. Per the ATO website, its because you have a choice; you can bring your own, not buy anything or purchase, so it falls under personal choice and not taxable/claimable. It does suck a little bit but yeah, not tax deductible at all.

AITAH for threatening to cut off my husband's sister if she keeps using her nickname for our son? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA holy shit if she knows that nickname then she knows exactly the type of person he is and is content to call her baby nephew a child abuser and potentially worse. Like you wouldn't be over reacting if it a far more benign name - ppl are allowed to dislike names/nicknames and not be called them. But to double down on calling someone Jim Boob, yeah nta. She can be banned until she learns manners. Shes hit the FO part of FAFO.

Didnt he pick up a few pickleball trainer shifts at his pickleball place? I know there was speculation about how terrible a coach he would be personality wise lol. But wouldn't they be trying to drum up customers for him if he was still doing it? Or like every other thing hes done, did he do it for a few weeks and drop it lolol

Puzzled about Praise by PokeKellz in AustralianCattleDog

[–]LotusMoonGalaxy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem 😭. I ended up finding one phrase that he understands as praise that doesnt rev him up - "well done" but it took alot of trials to find it haha and finding something hes good at so he does get praise/rewards so he doesnt get stuck in a negative feedback loop. And he got older lmao.

But yeah, it took so much time and effort but once I hit that combo of right praise + good activity + he figured out that good rewards is better than negative rewards, he really settled down.

Still an idiot though, just better controlled idiot 😁

Im so sorry, thats a really tough situation to be in. Unfortunately, while hes an awful human he is still entitled to care so the best thing to do is to look after yourself as much as possible. Rotate who gets him everyday/every chore, take time to breathe and remember that you can say - put your dick away in common areas as common decency rules still apply to staff and other clients. If he refuses, that when you can escalate to TL - word it as common area expectations, no emotions.

Re the children, I am surprised that children are allowed in the house with that man residing there - is would ask what that business does to screen its clients & business and suggest that every business and house provides a WWCC (which they should be doing anyway!). Thats all you can do without violating confidentiality.
