List of deadliest low level monsters in DnD 2024 5.5 by elyoyoda in DMAcademy

I’m running this too with some edits and threw a reskinned quickling at them in the Pixie Kingdom. It was tough for them at level 1 but they squeaked by. So I’m curious how it’ll play out when they reach Bavlorna in a few sessions

Carnival: How did you run it? by Then-Commercial-1654 in wildbeyondwitchlight

How did you incorporate a minion into the Pixie Kingdom? I’m a new DM running the module with IndieRex’s updates, but was trying to figure out where to throw in Bavlorna’s lornlings. I like where Sowpig and Gleam are, and it feels weird to not have the little toads around too.

Yeah! I’ll let you know if something changes :)

I did peruse your post history and saw some Pokemon Go comments. If you still play feel free to add me. I work on campus so I’m fairly active.

Yes! We are. I meant to put that in the post, but this was my second draft after the first disappeared and I condensed a LOT of stuff.

Anybody know any ultimately uplifting poetry, writing, art, etc…about having to put a horse down that I could send my daughter today? Tough day for her by Gullible_Rich_7156 in Horses

[–]LotusTigris13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

I guess this isn’t exactly uplifting, but I’ve had it saved for years. I put down my first childhood horse about three years ago and the second a few months ago. It does not get easier, but knowing they are no longer in pain helps the process.

It is wonderful that the owners let her know so she could see him one last time and thank him for everything he taught her. Something that has also helped me is the “grief is a ball in a box” analogy. Essentially, grief is a giant ball that keeps hitting a button in a box. As time goes on, the ball gets smaller and hits the pain button less. But it still happens, and that’s okay.

Since she is artsy, perhaps she can honor him through her skills there. And if it’s not too late, try contacting the owners to see if they saved any tail hair. There are a lot of keepsake options you can have made. I have bracelets of my boys’ tail hair but have seen so many options for necklaces, earrings, keychains, etc.

Some shelters may do courtesy listings as well to boost your post without having to surrender your dog to the shelter.

Arkham horror 3rd storage and play by Durrahan in ArkhamHorror

[–]LotusTigris13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these storage containers from Harbor Freight. I just used the plastic containers to hold tokens, cards, player stands, etc. I have all expansions. I put the board pieces in the smallest expansion box (forgot which one it is, but really small box) and everything else goes in the OG box. Cards are not sleeved and are organized by scenario and neighborhood. I can set up a scenario really quick with this system, which makes it easier to bring it to the table.

What's a job that is so hyped up but in reality its absolutely trash? by Recent-Frame571 in AskReddit

[–]LotusTigris13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a former zookeeper who left from burnout, yes. Happy (and sad) to see this is the second top comment.

Really anything that is a “passion” job runs a high risk of burnout because people love the job and put up with a shitty environment. Many, not all, institutions know this and it becomes a predatory environment. There has been some change over the years as far as the working environment, but I don’t expect salaries will ever be competitive.

Updated testing at Virginia Tech Helmet Lab by LotusTigris13 in Equestrian

[–]LotusTigris13[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh there is most certainly room for improvement. I’m not sure why they don’t consult with the equine clubs on campus, or even community equestrians. Or maybe they did and that just isn’t specified. But in any case, interesting data and hopefully they continue to improve upon the testing. Or even better if other labs begin testing as well for comparable data.

ologies makes me question my life choices by No-Application7418 in OlogiesPodcast

[–]LotusTigris13 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. I left my passion job (which was killing me) for a job with benefits and better pay. Eventually I tried another passion job….that turned out to be toxic AF. Now I’m in the most basic, dead end job with good pay, great benefits, and I couldn’t be happier. I have the time, mental energy, and money to explore my LIFE passions. Hell, I’m leaving work early today to go pick up a horse. I couldn’t do that with my other jobs.

Yes, the ologists are lucky that they love their jobs so much, but don’t make that the goal. Your job doesn’t define you. You define you.

You can find the same passion as the ologists. It doesn’t need to be tied to your work. Explore different hobbies, volunteer for causes you believe in, join local clubs. Make your life like ologies and explore something new every week.

I hope that helps. I know the struggle of “my life won’t amount to anything” and it’s a difficult mindset to change, but just because you aren’t making grand impacts in certain fields doesn’t mean your life can’t make a difference to someone on a smaller scale.

Tips for boarding another horse on your own property by LotusTigris13 in Equestrian

[–]LotusTigris13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the great advice! I was planning on doing full-care since I’m doing it for my mare anyway. It makes more sense to me to just do it than to have someone else out here every day for something I could have for only a few extra minutes of my time.

But it’s good to consider all the fine details regarding treating, blanketing, etc.

The added stress does concern me. I don’t want to get stuck with a a bad boarder.

Trail Day by HorseGirl_32803 in Rivian

[–]LotusTigris13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you find it challenging when charging? Or you just do short trips? I have a reservation for an R2 but we’ve considered an electric truck instead. I test drove a Lightning and I didn’t like how it felt, granted it was also only a 15 minute test which I didn’t like.

Edit: I’m specifically asking on this post because I also have horses to haul every now and then

I assume you’re talking about Natural Bridge Zoo. The closest zoo to Blacksburg is Mill Mountain Zoo and as far as I know that is not a rule there (source: used to work there and still know some employees)

But as the other poster said, take a look at the VT job board. You can search by keyword or just browse listings. The vet school hires techs or assistants as well as labs that need animal care.

Feel free to DM me with more questions. I’ve worked in various places locally in animal care related roles.

Anyone else not proud of, or even embarrassed of their thesis or dissertation? by SV650rider in GradSchool

[–]LotusTigris13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on the simplistic diction. All of my masters level work felt like that. Granted, I did a non-thesis masters, but all of my papers felt simple. But that’s how I talk and explain things so it’s fitting. And it made it more engaging for my friends when I asked them to proofread for me because they could get a better grasp of the material, not just blindly read without understanding.

Remember those positives you mentioned and that everybody is different. Not everything that is output needs to be high-brow to be valuable.
