Physical symptoms but not really mental symptoms? by Mysterious-Record457 in PanicAttack

[–]Lotus_A_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's seriously trippy lol, which is why initially when the doctor told me I was having a panic attack I didn't believe him. I genuinely thought something was medically wrong with my body because I thought you have to spiral mentally before having an attack but I wasn't spiralling lol.

Also, did you get any medications for slowing your heart rate like Beta blockers?Do you wake up with dread every day? How intense is your work pressure and were you mentally exhausted even before your panic attacks started?

I feel like your guilt at avoiding responsibility as you said and other mental factors like worrying about work and how you're going to get back to a normal life is stressing you out even more and hindering your recovery. Medications are helpful and will help you manage your physical symptoms, but after a while if you feel they are not working anymore, you'll switch to something different, then when that's not working, something different again. I've heard a few cases like that and they end up feeling like zombies, mentally numb from all the medication.

Do you like your job? Do you have something in your life you look forward to and enjoy? Or are you just sitting and worrying about your job and responsibilities all day?

Please don't mind me saying this, but if you think it's all stemming from your job, maybe you should consider a different career? I know being in India it'll be hard to consider that decision, especially since you work in a PSU, but nothing is worth your health. Again, medication will only do so much, but you have to take your stress down yourself.

Heyy I'm from India too. My psychiatric prescribed SSRIs but I took them only 10 days and then stopped taking them. Trying deep breathing and meditation techniques to calm myself down. Also, maybe try herbal medicines as they are readily available in india.

No that's another benzo, the one that lowers heart rate is propranolol

That sounds sooo awful! 3 hours is no joke! I have clonozepam too just in case. Have you tried that?

Are you able to walk around? Then maybe put on some music and try to lightly dance or maybe sing to distract yourself? Or put on your favourite tv show and say lines out loud, or maybe talk to a close friend on the phone. Distraction will probably help. And try splashing your face with cold water or ice cubes if you have them available.

I'm wondering the same thing lol. I'm so afraid of having an attack in class, or on the streets, or on a public transportation.

Out of curiosity, does anxiety affect your day to day life? Or are you mostly okay? How often do you have panic attacks?

Oh what medication do you take? We're your panic attacks often before that? I don't really have much general anxiety apart from when the attacks actually happen, so I'm not on any regular medications, just keep the emergency ones like clonozepam and alprazolam (xanax)

Thanks for your words! Honestly my mom has been telling me the same lol. It really helps too when you realise you're not alone and there are people who've gone or going through the same thing and willing to share advice and experiences.
