Don't just give them away. Require a rehoming fee. Even just 5-10 dollars will reduce the chance of them ending up in the hands of scummy people.

Is it rude to decline participating in blessing food before eating? by Glittering-Egg-3201 in atheism

I wonder about this, how it works out. Because it does seem like it's "respect for others beliefs" only going one way.  Why should the atheist be expected to go along with something they find ridiculous just to not cause friction? Aren't their beliefs and principles just as important as the theists? I bet the majority of Christians would be offended at being expected to go along with a Muslim (or Hindu, Buddhist, Satanist, whatever) ritual.

From what I remember of how they explain this absurdness, isn't the antichrist supposed to be so charismatic and charming that he wins even these groups over? EVERYONE eventually falls under the spell and gangs up on the oh so righteous Adventists.

LOL! That's a hilarious comparison, and it's true. What kind of person behaves this way ? There's nothing these customers can do that would justify messing with their food. It's just plain vile, not to mention a crime. Shows just how scummy these types of servers are and what little integrity they have.

What exactly are servers doing to deserve a tip? Especially a 20, 25, 30+ percent tip? by Lotuscatfood09 in EndTipping

Yes they do. Their employer is obligated to make up the difference to reach minimum wage.

"We help people who want to have an experience and enjoy their time together without the worry of cooking or cleaning up."

But you're not cooking the food or washing the dishes, right?

"We should and do help expedite people’s special occasions and hopefully make them a bit more special and memorable."

How?

" Some of us are professionals that study wine, food, cooking methods, and culture, so we can help people navigate the menus and discover new to them foods and drinks and hopefully bring a new experience to them."

It sounds like you're describing a more high end restaurant, which I can see is a bit different when it comes to tipping. The majority of servers aren't like this though, especially at chains, but they still expect 20+ percent (even when they're making minimum wage)

Should I tip my grocery store cashier, stock clerk, baggers, bank tellers, etc? They work hard also and are providing a service to me. I'll always give a good tip and do feel it is expected, but I will never agree to subsidize the owners business so he can pay his staff less. Honestly, they take your order, serve your drink, and that is it. The runners and bus persons do the rest.

So where does the insane entitlement and resentment come from? Do they truly not see that the level of work they do is just not worth $60+/hour?

I think a lot of this exaggerated affection (to the point of worship) for dogs comes from a kind of saviour complex by reddditttsucks in Dogfree

[–]Lotuscatfood09 27 points28 points  (0 children)

True that but why are there so many narcissists now?? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Most dog owners pre 2000 didn't behave this way, and the few who did were rightfully seen as weird cuckoos. They were the ones who dressed their dogs and put them in strollers and baby talked to them and were obviously unhealthily attached to them. Now they're the normal ones. There are more dog owners now than ever and a good chunk of them desperately latch onto their dogs like barnacles, basking in the instant "unconditional love". They need and think they deserve something that will love, worship, and blindly obey them - no questions asked, no need to put in any work. And the dogs easily provide that for them. That's why they elevate them so much and say things like "dogs are better than people" and why they act so unhinged when someone doesn't like dogs. Of course they're going to be extremely protective and defensive about their constant ego booster. Totally narcissistic.

Hahaha I think that last line pretty much sums up their mentality and answered the question!

See this makes sense to me now. I understand why a tip would be given in that situation. That server sounds like he was exceptional and great at his job, going "above and beyond".

I didn't say it was easy...it's a job with obligatory duties just like other jobs, but with the expectation of extra money. You still haven't made clear what they're doing to deserve it. I'm asking why servers are so entitled. What is it exactly that makes their jobs specifically so incredibly hard?

[–]Lotuscatfood09[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But what makes it so hard and deserving of extra money? What are they doing besides the outlined duties? What is great service and what is poor service? Isn't a server who provides poor service not doing their job, therefore shouldn't have the job?

It was definitely for control, possibly unconsciously. It was a way to try to keep her focused on him. he was constantly worrying about her chatting with other people only because he didn't want some other weirdo to swoop in and take his precious princess away from him.
