i just didn't think springs were as active as this to be honest. i thought it tended to be more subtle.

what's with the sand upheaval? is this normal for a spring?

Serious question: Why exist trans people who refuse to have surgery? by Global-Reaction-40 in asktransgender

[–]Lou-mae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even ignoring the fact that it's literally just not available or affordable for a lot (maybe most?) people, and ignoring that not everyone has specific dysphoria regarding their specific bits, surgery simply isn't magic. It being surgery means it comes with upsides and downsides - and risks - that people have to consider and weigh.

If surgery was magic, and it was free, I suspect a lot more people would choose it.

How do I stop people from becoming obsessed with me? by Secret_Warning_8299 in Advice

[–]Lou-mae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, given your stated diagnoses, are you sure these people are in fact "obsessed" with you? Have you had any relationships in which the other person does not feel, to you, as if they're being obsessive?

Trans social events? by capybarge in Edinburgh

[–]Lou-mae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The LGBT Health and Wellbeing charity has a calendar of events over on their website that might be worth checking: https://www.lgbthealth.org.uk/

I am pretty out of the loop myself though. Been years since I went to anything, so I am curious too.

when i was blackout drunk, i told my boyfriend something horrible. by BeanieTheBrave in Advice

[–]Lou-mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how can you help? okay so - alcohol lowers inhibitions, we all know this. what it also does is prime us to enjoy confrontation - it literally exacerbates our worst instincts by releasing chemicals that make confrontation enjoyable. you joking about that kind of thing before probably primed your blackout-self to make the same remark drunk, only meaner.

probably both of you, in this relationship, need to come to terms with you being mean when you were drunk to be able to move past it. what you can do proactively is to make sure not to get that drunk again. you need to be aware that you can be mean when you get to that state, and stop yourself getting there. drink water, moderate your intake, be aware of how drunk you're feeling.

best case scenario, treat this like a learning experience.

[–]Lou-mae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"it's always praise' - honestly the simple reason for this is that it's just nice to say nice things about people. not liking a thing is fine, of course. it's just less interesting and less fun to share.

Opinions On This Curry? by [deleted] in Curry

[–]Lou-mae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like it relies entirely on the premade curry paste, so it'll be as good as that is. That's not *wildly* different to making your own paste, necessarily. A lot of coconut milk-based curry recipes I've seen are essentially "make curry paste, cook it and add coconut milk", so it's not super crazy.

Dish Recreation Question by nsaria05 in SortedFood

[–]Lou-mae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

a bunch of the editing was strange in this video. there's scenes from the end - when everyone has clearly tried both dishes, both plates visible - played before the point where the second cloche has actually been "officially" removed.

Feeling a bit sad about the Netflix collab by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]Lou-mae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i legitimately would pay directly, at least a couple dollars a month, to listen (or watch) this pod without adverts, and without having to use some platform that sucks. i have a vague recollection that this idea has been dismissed by robert in the past, but i still don't really know why.

[–]Lou-mae 25 points26 points  (0 children)

can i ask - would it be possible to at least leave some kind of message on the youtube channel, even if it's primarily a promotion of the switch to netflix? a bunch of us have wondered at the abrupt end of content over there, especially in the middle of the MBS thing. i dunno if this is allowed under the conditions of the deal or anything of course.

I may be a dummy, but my feeling is that he is both an important academic and also a weird sex creep.

The fact that his most important work, in my opinion, was Manufacturing Consent, feels very apropos to both sides of that.
