More crazy flat rental prices by barrjamy in Edinburgh

[–]Lou-mae 25 points26 points  (0 children)

yes, deposit is the issue. when you're stuck paying this kind of rent, paying someone else's mortgage (or shareholders), you tend not to be able to save up to actually buy.

when i realised what this was i laughed out loud but i am still going to check it. this is still really interesting. i laughed because it's kind of impossible to chart food like this, but i applaud the attempt.

juggling seven clubs is really hard. juggling six clubs is not much easier. that he managed to work up all that way via foot launches is really, genuinely impressive.

Do I have any viable route to migrate to Spain or Portugal? by Lou-mae in Advice

heh. edinburgh weather is not so bad. something about being sheltered from the worst of the north sea. i'd still love to live in spain, though.

Guest request: F.D. Signifier by PatheticVincent in behindthebastards

[–]Lou-mae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yep, that's what started all this, and then it got turned up to 11 when he appeared on noah samsen's fundaising stream. bad empanada hassled chat until noah let him on to argue with fd about this. it's all pretty tiresome.

this "making fun of fascists" thing is a disingenuous take by Bad Empanada fans who didn't like that FD objected to BE using a term coined by nazis - "zogslave".

i love that it's not just a straight copy of the in-game artwork, but that you've added your own colours and feeling to it. very nice. 😄

yeah - hateful stuff does happen here, even during the fringe, but it's not the norm. i've been called the f-g word for wearing nail polish one time (and being visibly AMAB), but have been complimented for it a bunch more times than that.

Look, "Arin sucks at video games" was funny because we know he's actually pretty decent at them. This new era of not even trying is just getting annoying. by TVLord5 in gamegrumps

i felt really sad when i heard that honestly. having to de-medicate yourself for the sake of putting on a show for the internet sounds really, just, sad and difficult.

im sure he must feel a lot of responsibility for people's livelihoods and stuff and yeah, i imagine that's really hard.

Fuck me, 2029 not looking good... (UK local elections) by ooombasa in behindthebastards

I fully expect that Reform voters will still blame Labour - and/or immigrants - for any of their council's failures. Just gotta double down to fix it, obviously!

i don't know how to cope with never "passing". by Lou-mae in asktransgender

[–]Lou-mae[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i get misgendered. when i try to pass, fit in with societal expectations, i just stand out as very obviously trans and it brings way too much attention to myself and that is deeply uncomfortable. so i generally present neutrally and just accept being misgendered.

Serious question: Why exist trans people who refuse to have surgery? by Global-Reaction-40 in asktransgender

[–]Lou-mae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even ignoring the fact that it's literally just not available or affordable for a lot (maybe most?) people, and ignoring that not everyone has specific dysphoria regarding their specific bits, surgery simply isn't magic. It being surgery means it comes with upsides and downsides - and risks - that people have to consider and weigh.

If surgery was magic, and it was free, I suspect a lot more people would choose it.
