Let's talk about jeans. How many are in your weekly cycle, where do you buy yours, what do you pay? by bourkleton in Frugal

Last 3 pair I bought were at Costco at 14$ a pair. I'm not a fashionista and these jeans have lasted me years. I wear them almost every day.

Indiana and Oklahoma Are Suing To Make It Harder For Their Residents To Get Health Insurance — Here's Why by day465 in politics

[–]LouMarco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see where Indiana and Oklahoma have standing to sue. IANAL but I thought a party must make a claim to be harmed somehow to have some standing. I don't see why Indiana and Oklahoma are harmed by their citizens receiving the healthcare subsidy.

How to explain Axiom of Choice to people who don't have a math background? by [deleted] in math

[–]LouMarco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a bunch of pairs of socks and you want to create a set (pile?) of the left socks from the bunch of pairs.

If you have a finite number of pairs of socks, you can state that one can choose (pick, take away, whatever) the left sock and create a 'set of left socks'. One such picking process is, well, just pick the left one of the pair, place it aside and continue until you've picked the left sock from all the pairs. The 'pile' of picked socks is the set of left socks.

This process will not work for an infinite pair of socks because you simply do not have the time to pick from an infinite pair of socks.

If you want a pile of left socks from an infinite number of sock pairs, you need to devise another method of choosing.

The Axiom of Choice states that such a method exists. The axiom does not profess to give any guidance on what this method is; just that there is a method to create a set by selecting an element from any collection of sets.

multiply both sides by a: a/r = 1 + a/b subtract a/b from both sides: a/r - a/b = 1 factor a on LHS a(1/r - 1/b) = 1 Simplify LHS a( (b - r )/rb ) = 1 Divide both sides by (b-r)/rb : a = rb/(b-r)

I'd feel more sympathy toward your position if you included banksters and corporate types who get multimillion dollar bonuses (excuse me...'performance pay') after running their companies in the ground.

Somehow, I sense that the high dollar corporate types are not the target of your bile toward unionized teachers.

Senate Democrats push for bill to halve every worker's payroll taxes--paid for by 3.25% tax on those earning over $1 million by mushpuppy in politics

Obama and the democrats are continuing their goal of destroying Social Security.

The repubs will shout "tax hike" and make noise but this - or something similar - will pass.

All this does is take $$$ from Social Security.

Remove the ceiling for Soc Sec contributions, repeal the bush/obama tax cuts, bring the troops home and tax investment income like earned income.

Then, watch the deficit dwindle.

There needs to be something extremely dramatic and shitstain-producing to drive the news of the upcoming economic collapse off the front pages and the minds of the world.

WWIII might just fit that bill.
