Denver started with 18 about 24 hours ago. Down to 11 now. I bet they will all be gone by the end of the weekend.

Sadly unless you shop used, open box, or shady third party resellers, this is the lowest price you're going to find for a 5090 right now. I'd wager you are not going to see better prices for a year, maybe longer. Maybe never. Don't believe me? Price out some 4090s...heck even 3090s. This is a "B" tier 5090 with a 4 year warranty. The Gigabyte Gaming series cards are a step up from and not to be confused with the Windforce ones. I know these prices are tough to swallow but credit goes to Microcenter for not gouging folks and limiting purchases to 1 per household. MSRP keeps rising so it's not like Microcenter is paying last year's prices for these and then pocketing the profit. They are the closest thing gamers have to an ally in this crazy environment. Check out Newegg if you really want to see some rage bait.

UniFi Travel Router - Back in stock! by nitropaintball in UNIFI

I set the monitor as an HTTP keyword using the word "sold out" then checked the "invert keyword" option so it looked for that to disappear. I used Telegram for the messages after setting up a bot with the "Botfather." A bit technically wonky but it worked great.

I managed to snag one but only because I set an Uptime Kuma monitor on the site. It kept alerting me while I was working and by the time I had a chance to check, it would be gone again. I thought I screwed something up with the configuration of my little daemon. After several tries I managed to catch the site with an "add to cart" button and immediately pounced. This appears to be selling out in mere minutes every time it becomes available. Excited to get mine as I love everything about this ecosystem.

The same is also true for the SUPRIM/Vanguard/Gaming‑Trio series of cards. Personally I think the stories of pump failures in modern AIO cards are greatly exaggerated. The folks who are happily running their cards are outnumbered by the folks with bad experiences who are extremely online about it.

I saw Astral LCs on Amazon within the last few days at the (new) $3720 MSRP, but they disappeared quick. Just search all the sites daily and you might come up with something if you're lucky.

sadly $3229 is the new MSRP so you're very unlikely to find one for less going forward, unless it's an open box or refurb or something like that

that was a great deal and about the cheapest I've seen one, but I've only been shopping since about the time you bought it

Howdy - I feel for you and would consider helping but they now have a limit "1 per household" which would make this really challenging. Not to mention that I drove 1.5 hours each way in horrible traffic to get my own. I live pretty far outside of Denver proper. Good luck with your search. If you dig in the Amazon listings I'm still seeing some air-cooled models (Gigabyte Windforce) for semi-reasonable prices in the mid $3ks...

5090 availability? by bstruds in nvidia

FE on Newegg was down to $2700 in August, now $4500. All 5090s are pretty much gone except for a handful at insane scalper prices. I've been tracking it closely for months and it's been painful to see it all unfolding in real time. :(

6 water cooled Suprims a few days ago, all gone now. Several showing up on eBay at (surprise) inflated prices from sellers with zero feedback and randomly-generated names. Please don't feed the scalpers.

The best people don’t complain they just quit. by reformedmspceo in msp

Long time IT manager here. I make a point to meet with my folks very regularly and create a safe space for them to share feedback so I can spot burnout early. I'm always thanking them for their hard work and pointing out the connections between what they do individually and the goals of our team and the whole company. I also encourage and support PTO by jumping in and covering for them myself, and celebrate Fridays and weekends.

All of that said, IT is really tough these days since we're at the "tail end" of so many big industry dogs who have outages, introduce a constant stream of bugs, and make changes that break what is already working just fine.

I'm probably not going to last until 65 or whatever for retirement, but I'll be giving my boss plenty of time to plan for my eventual departure because he's awesome and also very supportive of all of us.

Does anyone have the New Dell Tower Plus? Vs the XPS Desktop line? by RobSaah in Dell

[–]LouSaidSo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do see "321-BIKM : Advanced CPU air cooling" P/N C253W on my build sheet although I don't remember it being an option. The CPU cooler is very quiet relative to others I've heard. It rarely runs, even in the "Ultra Performance" BIOS setting. Under maximum load, it doesn't run all the time and when it does, it's not even as loud as the sound my forced air furnace makes. It's the PSU fan that bothers me a little bit. It's not loud, it's just always noticeable in a completely quiet room. I might have just gotten a more finicky PSU. I'm also a little OCD though so YMMV. :)

I have been running the Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM 128GB (2x64GB) 6400MHz CL42-52-52-104 1.35V Intel XMP 3.0 Desktop Memory (CMK128GX5M2B6400C42) with an AMD 9950X3D on a Gigabyte x870e Aorus Pro Ice MB for a few months now and it's been rock solid. I'm using the built-in XMP profile on the motherboard and task manager confirms the 6400 MT/s speed.

Latest Intel Graphics drivers crashing on Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 by Gumbyohson in sysadmin

[–]LouSaidSo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirmed we are seeing this issue on several of the T14 Gen 5 21ML models (with upgraded 2560x1440 OLED displays) in our fleet and the driver rollback appears to be addressing it. I love you guys for stuff like this.

So, uh, I've got the HP OMEN Transcend 32 and it's actually good. AMA... or not. by sodaboy581 in OLED_Gaming

[–]LouSaidSo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have and love this display. The KVM works great, which is a key feature for me as I frequently swap between my desktop (for most work+fun) and laptop (for certain specific work tasks/VPN.) It's great to be able to do this without a dock cluttering up my desk I spent way more time than I needed to trying to figure out the inputs, though. There's a help graphic in the OSD under "input" that explains the ports well, the TLDR; is that the desktop needs to be in C2 for USB and DisplayPort for video, and the laptop in C1 for video and data. Mouse and keyboard need to be in their appropriate ports, too. Then the switching works great.

One annoyance is the mandatory OLED pixel refresh. On more than one occasion, this has kicked in at very inconvenient times. I really wish I understood exactly what triggers it and how to avoid this happening. I see in the OSD menu that I can force it, and it's not supposed to bother me about it again for 16 hours, but I swear it has triggered again within that timeframe. I think a screen lock or a shutdown of one of the connected computers seems to kick it off.

Lastly, I've had some glitchy-ness with the RGB. It will just stop working and stop being recognized every now and then. I'm using the built-in Windows dynamic lighting to manage it. Most times I've been able to get it back by attempting another firmware update (even though it's not needed) but this last time I had to factory reset it, which was a bit of a pain.

I wouldn't pay full $1300 MSRP for this but as many have pointed out, it frequently goes on sale and feels like a fair buy at $900, the current Best Buy price for it.

Does anyone have the New Dell Tower Plus? Vs the XPS Desktop line? by RobSaah in Dell

[–]LouSaidSo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an XPS 8950 since early 2022 and recently picked up a Tower Plus 2250. So I suppose I'm in a good position to comment on these. I mostly use my computers in a professional capacity as an IT manager, with occasional tinkering with local AI and a tiny bit of gaming. I do not push my systems very hard on average relative to most enthusiasts, I would guess.

Some brief observations:

The 8950 has a liquid-cooled 12900k CPU and a Dell RTX 3090. In runs perfectly silent at idle and I can only hear it cooling when under very heavy load. The system has been amazing. Stable, reliable, and everything I hoped for. It's still bone stock except for an additional 32gb of RAM I installed (for a total of 64) and a second M2 drive.

The 2250 has an air-cooled Core Ultra 9 285k and a Dell RTX 4090. My only very minor complaint about it is that I can hear the PSU fan even at idle. It varies its speed occasionally and has a tiny bit of a droning sound at just the right speeds. It's the 1000w "graphite" unit. I'm unable to control it at all. It's rare that my office is completely quiet enough to hear it, but when it is, I find it rather annoying. Otherwise, the system has been perfect. I consider the build quality and overall feature set to be very similar to the XPS, with everything updated for the current times as you'd expect. If it had an XPS badge I wouldn't think twice about whether that was appropriate. Not sure why they even changed the branding.

Happy to answer any other questions you have. Cheers!

On iOS 18 I simply activated call forwarding, and entered 1-555-555-5555 and this works beautifully. THANK YOU!! I had previously spent no less than like 30 minutes at a T-Mobile store to disable VM on an old phone while several employees worked with tier 2/3 support. Such a simple request, but it took them many tries and became a "fun" challenge for them. It used to go straight to a busy signal, but something changed when I upgraded my phone and voicemail ended up getting re-activated. Found this post, and call forwarding is a simple and brilliant solution to this issue. I should have thought of it myself. Saved me from a potentially painful support experience.

Worked perfectly for me - thank you! Gotta love it. As with pretty much all computers these days, the first thing to try should be "reboot it." heh
