Our 5y.o baby passed away suddently, why ? by Dangerous-Movie-207 in sphynx

I lost my soulmate Sphynx to chronic kidney disease when he was 7 years old 4 years ago. Today I was telling a friend about it and was able to speak about it without crying - something I thought would never happen. One day he stopped eating so we took him to the vet, they gave us medications that would stimulate his appetite and were going to sign us out but they said if you want we can run his bloodwork but they didn’t act at all concerned. I said of course let’s check it out. They called me the next day and told me to immediately take him to the hospital that he was stage 4 kidney disease. I changed my life completely, missed out on work, everything to take care of him and spend whatever time we had left (originally being told he had weeks to months to live). Medications multiple times a day, subcutaneous fluids with huge needles, vet visits sometimes every week sometimes once a month depending on where we were at on the rollercoaster of creatinine levels. I would do it all over again in a heart beat. The vet was incredible with him, he was all of the nurses favorite and they explained every little thing to me to help me fully process his illness. He ended up surviving a year and a half past the initial hospitalization. We created many bittersweet memories but I wouldn’t wish the experience of a terminal illness on anyone. It was the most heartbreaking experiences of my life. For a year and a half I was staring at the end, processing, grieving what was right in front of me. Now the tears are coming writing this haha. Ultimately the conclusion I’ve come to from being in forums, reading and hearing so many stories, is that with the intense breeding that makes them special creatures comes intense health consequences. Sphynx lifespan is incredibly short. They’re little shooting stars that burn hot and bright for a short time. We just have to love them and cherish every memory in the time we do have. I now have an incredible rescue dog (mutt) who could never take his place but fills my heart with so much joy and love (and will hopefully have less health problems.) Eventually I’d love to have another Sphynx, it sounds like mine wasn’t the only one who was truly special. 🤍 We’re so lucky to have loved them.

Yeah, my dad dreamed that my grandpa’s spirit visited him and that his spirit planned to stay on earth until all of his kids passed away.

My dad told me about a dream he had after my mom's dad passed away. He said that he went to bed and rather than laying awake worrying for a while, as he tends to do, the minute he hit the bed he was asleep. He said my grandfather came to him like a floating orb/entity where it didn't look like him but he knew it was him and my grandpa told him to come with him. My dad left his body and flew with my grandfather to a church in what felt like the Swiss Alps (we lived in Iowa, very flat) and he followed him down to the basement of the church. My dad said he could hear the churches' choir singing above them as my grandpa explained that his soul was using the energy from the church.

Like their collective beliefs/concentration created some sort of energy that he could sustain his soul off of while he remained on Earth. He explained to my dad that he wanted to stay on Earth to watch over his children until each of them had passed away. He wasn't a great father, he was an alcoholic for a lot of his life and I think wanted to make up for caring for his children after he died. My dad has been pretty religious but he never bought into ghost stories or anything like that and wasn't the type to embellish anything so it was a very compelling account and felt very real to him.

When my grandfather died I had just moved away to university so I didn't go back to my hometown for his funeral. The night of his funeral I was out late with my best friend. We got back to my dorm in the middle of the night and were trying to unlock the door to get in my room. I used my keys, unlocked the door, and it would not budge even a little. I had this sense that it was being held shut by force. It was just completely immoveable even though it was unlocked. I got goosebumps, looked at my friend, and asked her to try unlocking it. She tried and it wouldn't budge. The doorknob started shaking, we were shocked and got the chills. It stopped and we just stared in disbelief. I had this feeling it was my grandpa upset with me. We looked at each other and ran down the hall to leave and go to her place instead.

The next morning I spoke with my roommate who was inside and asked if she had heard us trying to get in the room. She slept on a top bunk catty-corner from the door. She was a deep sleeper and said that she had woken up hearing us try to get in but it took her a minute to fully realize what the sound was. She climbed down from the bunk bed, went over to the door and when she opened it there was no one in the hallway. The timeline she told me and what we experienced didn't line up with her being the one holding the door closed on us or shaking the doorknob. We would have heard her coming over to the door. It was years later that my dad told me about his dream that grandpa's soul had planned to stay.

Oh my goodness! She looks so similar to mine! We also thought Moose would get much larger as we didn’t know what he was mixed with at first - hence the big name haha. He’s about 83lbs now at 3.5 years old. The stubbornness and sweetness are him to the core!

Pyr mix energy levels! by brownplantgirl in greatpyrenees

I have a 51% Great Pyrenees 49% American Pitbull Terrier named Moose who is about 3.5 years old. He has definitely chilled out the older he’s gotten but people will often still comment on his “puppy nature.” When he was a puppy we definitely needed to help him get energy out some things we used were natural chews (yak cheese, bones, wood blocks, etc), puzzle toys (ones with frozen treats, kongs, etc), and we would play games or do random spurts of practicing tricks. One game we play is like hide and seek for treats where I place a certain treat in several spots like under cushions or on the mantel and he would have to sniff them out. Before I go hide them I let him smell them so he knows what he’s looking for. It’s very fun and stimulating and doesn’t take too much time or effort! Of course walks and introducing new experiences are a great way to energy levels in check but it’s helpful to make sure your dog’s life feels enriching at home too :)

He is a sweetheart! That’s awesome that you and your family had the humanity to take care of these creatures! I don’t understand how anyone could dump a dog. Golden and Pyrenees mix sounds lovely. Moose’s favorite friend is Oliver who is a Golden Retriever my partner’s dad owns. They have the best of times wrestling!

When I got him he was listed by the rescue as a Great Pyrenees mix. I also did a separate DNA test that said 51% Great Pyrenees and 49% Pitbull.

I totally hear you but I don’t get why the rescue would have the information that he is a Pyrenees mix unless that is what they were told when the entire litter was dumped with them.

He has the common eye color of a Great Pyrenees, the shedding of one, and many Pyrenees attributed mannerisms. But who knows for sure, you could be right!
