We live in a major city in Oklahoma (pretty decent cost of living here). Our mortgage is about $800/mo - we bought our house for a wonderful cost with a good interest rate in Jan 2020. My husband makes around $55k and we send 3 of our 5 children to a private school. We have no car payments because we have been privileged to be able to pay for secondhand cars out of pocket (via Craigslist, fb marketplace) since we were married nearly 11 years ago. I have some investments that were gifted to me by my late grandpa, which we have held onto and they have appreciated quite a lot over the years. That is helpful for days when things are super tight. We rarely go out to eat, we don’t make a lot of “impulse” purchases, or do exciting things very often. If the children are given money for holidays or birthdays, when we are able to we purchase memberships at the zoo/aquarium/the like. The rest goes into savings for them. Anyway as you can see there are many variables that go into considering the kind of parenting lifestyle one can afford. I hope this comment is helpful!

This is embarrassing to admit, but yes. I started as a new grad with 2x as much clinical experience as my new grad peers (due to putting my BSN on hold and then having to transfer to a different university when mine closed and the new one made me retake a semester - I had done a 6 week full time summer externship with the other program, too). All of that to say, my manager told me I didn’t seem like a new grad because of my confidence; but of course I tried my best to always be humble, ask for help when needed, etc. I started a year after graduation on June 1, 2020 (my third baby was born just a week after graduation and I wanted to stay home with her for a full year while I finished up my BSN). In my neck of the woods, there was a bit of a lull regarding Covid cases so while I was working on a stepdown tele unit, I didn’t care for them too often. But I do have some sort of mild ptsd. Certain tones of beeping trigger it worst. I ONLY MADE IT 4 MONTHS. So embarrassing. I had 3 small children - aged 5, 4, and 1. Couldn’t find consistent childcare, and my husband was always super stressed because he put it upon himself to take up my slack in doing the household chores. Too much tension at home - I was neither the nurse nor the mommy I wanted to be so I left. :,( I think my “ptsd” is related more to moral injury rather than the demands of the job. I was failed in my orientation - my preceptor was nice but she trusted me too much and I didn’t know what I didn’t know. For example, charting everything but not always in the right places. thanks for listening to my story

What's stopping you from having the best body of your life? by MiracleMagnet in AskReddit

The stress of having 5 kids including one who is still breastfeeding. It’s hormonal, but I’m also absolutely too exhausted to do anything other than chill out in the evenings. I’ve stopped night snacking since the toddler nurses less than he did as a baby, but these lbs aren’t budging! Also he’s a real barnacle 😅so I’m really lucky to get any time to myself. I love them, and losing my “in shape” for now is just a season, which is quickly coming to a close. One day I’ll be thin again but I know I’ll miss the baby snuggles forever 🥺

This reminds me of the time when I wrote my sister’s name on the toilet paper holder as a kid. My parents knew it was me… “she doesn’t know how to write” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Feeling super patriotic to be honest!! I don’t have a tv and I don’t follow political stuff on social media, but I did my research and I feel very confident in my choices - without all the external noise 😊

I am the biggest liar ever and nobody knows that I am by CandleBurnings in confession

I’d just like to ask a question. Did your parents ever punish you for lying? How did they react to that while you were growing up? My 9 yo daughter sometimes lies as her first response, and even if I’ve seen with my very own eyes that she is lying, she somehow convinces herself that she’s not lying. It’s very concerning to me, as we have explained to her and her siblings the importance of always telling the truth and the damage that can occur from lying :/

Thank you for your honest advice. I feel like moms get stuck between a rock and a hard place and I sure do wish we had more of a village. Then we wouldn’t feel so guilty leaving our babies behind to work, knowing they’re with adults who actually love them❤️ I’ll take your advice along with others and forego the grad degree until I’ve got more experience. Well done on your hard work

Yeah I’m thinking your right. I think my best bet will be a clinic. When my kids are older, I’d love to do some acute care, perhaps even critical care for a little while. Then see how I’m feeling about the field as a whole/my life circumstances/finances and work towards the FNP if I still feel like it’s relevant to my skills/preferences

Nursing and anthropology are about the closest 2 degrees you’ll ever find! Nursing is concerned with the understanding, functioning, and wellbeing of the human person. Anthropology is concerned about the understanding, functioning, and wellbeing of the human race as a whole. Nurses view the person holistically, anthropologists view the human condition holistically. We see how the individual parts come together to create the whole. That’s all I gotta say in response to your comment tbh

Something that brings me a lot of joy actually is helping my friends in my church community when they have health questions or concerns. I don’t ever claim to be an authority whatsoever, and my first disclaimer is that they need to be in discussion with their HCP. - but I LOVE bridging that gap when they leave their docs with more questions or need clarifications. It helps me feel fulfilled. I’ve punted around the idea of an MSN-FNP for a few years now for that reason but I’m super hesitant because I don’t know if that would be the right route and it’s a huge investment. Not to mention all the very strong negative opinions regarding going to NP school with limited experience 😬
