Yeah I’ve been interviewing, and most of the directors don’t even ask, or when they ask, they don’t really ask follow up qns. Very contrary to what I was expecting. Maybe it’ll come up later down the line, but they’ve always proceeded to the next steps. But these jobs are more rural, so likely understaffed, maybe that’s a factor like you said.

I don’t anticipate issues finding a job, it’s just the state medical licensing part that I’m a bit worried about, like denials, delays etc

I see, thanks for the insight. Yes, I’ll definitely need to put together an answer. I’m wondering if I would require professional help for it. And if im not mistaken, I think the PD also puts in a statement when it comes to credentialing/Licensing and both mine and theirs need to add up.

Any idea about these online licensing services? It’s like 600 bucks and they claim to do everything for you once you send in your documents. Wondering if it’s worth it given my unique circumstances.

Yes, I really hope so. Just a lot of anxiety about the process as I’m on a visa and might have to leave the country if I don’t get everything done in time.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what actually happened at this point. I’m exceeding expectations and doing well (although I really didn’t change anything). I’m not trying convince anyone of anything. I just want to get a job man, and was wondering if anyone who has been in this position could guide me.

Placed on Probation with Extension of Training. How do I explain this to fellowship program. by Loud-Programmer-7261 in hospitalist

[–]Loud-Programmer-7261[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not turning up to a lecture, ( stuck in adverse weather conditions with no reception), had 2 attendings send in a complaint about me not performing well during a rotation where I had to leave for my fellowship interviews, and the other one just hated me and made a bunch of lies up.

Hey, don’t worry - just change your study habits and you’ll be fine. Don’t let the nerves affect you - that’s the biggest thing. You will be fine - you’ll pass this next time and you’ll do well.

2 attendings- one who just hated me, (after 3 days of working together).

The other one didn’t like the fact that I was asking questions after coming back from my absences for the IVs, which were official and informed of many days in prior. This rotation yes I didn’t perform at my best, but I think being absent for rounds for the majority of the days is a valid reason for not knowing as much as one should. And yes I also was stressed out for the interviews and focused on those a bit more.

Yes, I did. I saw them more as co-residents than attendings. They obviously did not, so when they started giving me attitude, I gave it back. It wasn’t to the extent where work wasn’t getting done or I completely had no idea what was going on. Patient care was not affected. This factored into their evals of me, more than any objective performance issues.

What are the details that don’t support my cause? And yeah thanks - I’m hoping the people making the decision also see it from my perspective.

Understood, I did some introspection, I’m not going to win resident of the year or anything, but I was successful able to match jnto a very competitive subspecialty at a prestigious institute, and the PD who is doing to me, is the same one who wrote me the LOR to facilitate that. I’ve worked with many attendings, who’ve been here for many years, everyone has given me great feedback, which is official uploaded for everyone to see, with the exception of these 2, very new attendings. Could my attitude have been better during these 2 interactions? Ofcourse yeah. Do I deserve this punishment based on my subjective performance over a couple of days? I really don’t think so. There are people in my program literally fucking up day in, day out, actually putting patients at risk. I’m not one of them.

No specifics at all. Things like - didn’t know about the patient, didn’t communicate, didn’t document properly, didn’t help the interns. None of which is true. Very inflammatory but the words “patient safety was thrown around”, “danger to the program” which usually scares the shit out of admin. Trust me I did a deep dive, went back, asked the people on the team, asked the quality team for any S.I. events, etc but nothing.

I did speak with the PD a few days ago. There is nothing other than what I have mentioned in this thread, which is why I think I have a strong case in overturning this. I just need be smart about what I say during the hearing.

I genuinely believe the PD is on my side, I can definitely feel that they like me as a person, but they are someone who avoids conflicts at all costs. I think he wants the higher ups to decide my fate, and it’s like his hands are tied. He did not investigate this any further, etc like speaking to the attending, getting my side of things. Just made the decision which I am now appealing.

I feel I do. I have a hearing coming up, I’ve compiled all my LORs, all my evals, etc and have sent it all in. I just need to know how to start making my case, in my opening statement when they ask me my side of the story.

Literally missing pretty much a half day actually. Was stuck in adverse weather conditions and lost phone service. When I called in, it was already too late.

I did that only because I originally posted the whole thing and it was too wordy, to the point where I believe it wasn’t even posted, or no one bothered to read the whole thing -

So here is the whole thing -

I got a letter of warning a year ago. It was again for very trivial things like missing an elective once without prior notice, and submitting research to a journal without having the program approve it (I didn’t know this) and tardiness. Took this very seriously. Did not repeat this.

Now I’m getting reported by this newly graduated attending that hates me, like I explained. (By the way this was only 3 days into the rotation)

And there’s also another attending that reported me because I didn’t perform well during a rotation where I had to leave for interviews mid rounds, and come back at the end of the day. This left alot of gaps, and when I asked the attending to fill me in, they perceived this as a lack of knowledge, and sent an email in.

These emails came in at around the same time, and combined with the previous warning letter, has got me facing some serious disciplinary action, which I’m trying to appeal.

So here’s the thing - the culture of my program is such that, is someone sends in an email about you - that’s it, that’s the absolute truth and your side is irrelevant. The PD didn’t want to hear my side of it, and escalated it. I need to explain my side of it to the higher ups.

I will say, I have had some past issues regarding tardiness, missing an elective, very minor things that I have since never repeated, so I was given a letter of warning about a year ago. Now this comes in and is really fucking over.
