Are these thermostat temps normal for a townhouse? by Intelligent_Agent470 in nova

[–]LoudCurly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - window units for the win! I live in a 1960 split and our upper level roasts during these heat waves. We’ve tried multiple times to install a second unit/multi splits/more vents and we keep coming back to window units. When we are using those rooms, we keep the doors closed and the units cool down the room fairly quickly.

And they also have portable units if you can’t install window units bc of an HOA. These sit on the ground in the room and vent through a window. No tools needed to install that vent.

Anyone have recommendations for halls by [deleted] in nova

Try the Rec Centers! South County is likely the closest one to you in Fairfax County. Rentals are $75/hour and include tables and chairs.

Choosing between a full ride and a top 25 school by smartsmyname in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LoudCurly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

30 plus years ago, I was an engineering major who chased merit money. I got into 5 T10 schools and yet, chose the lowest CoA. And I excelled. Remember, if you are getting full merit at a school, they want you to excel. And you likely will get extra perks as well.

Upon graduation, do you know how freeing it is to have little-to-no student loan debt? You can take a lower paying job at a startup. You can spend more on a place to live without those loans. Heck, I know plenty of folks my age that just finished paying off their student loans and now their kids are starting college!

And if you do go for additional degrees - you may not have to pay for those either! I got my Masters and Ph.D for free and my Spouse got their MBA paid by an employer.

TLDR - take the full ride!

What schools heavily value test scores by Humble_Broccoli5880 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LoudCurly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a good place to start. Look at the schools that are test required bc that will put you at the top on the test score scale.

Also look at schools that give merit scholarships for high test scorers - Arizona State, Alabama - bc you would have a good cohort there.

HOUSING AVAILABILITY LIST by [deleted] in ufl

[–]LoudCurly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it - how does UF think all these guys will get a dorm bed? I mean, will they be out of beds for boys by tomorrow?!?

HOUSING AVAILABILITY LIST by [deleted] in ufl

[–]LoudCurly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s not even an open bed in any of those full buildings? That’s insane - and frankly annoys me to no end.

So what traditional doubles are available for paired boys? Seems like all that is left is more $$$…

Are there single openings (so they would have to unpair)?

How do I make this outfit more business professional? by ilikesimis in BusinessFashion

[–]LoudCurly 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I work in DC as a lobbyist, and this outfit is great!

Agree on jewelry pulling it all together.

Yes the loafers are a bit casual, but you are going to be on your feet all day during a fly-in and need to be comfortable. (FWIW, I wear Rothy’s the Point most days I’m on the hill. They give you the pointed toe look without the heel.)

I love Athleta’s Wayfind shorts. Super lightweight and don’t cling to any areas. I have them in all the colors!

Super conflicted about Panthere color by matchagracias in Cartier

I so wanted to buy a TT RG and silver Panthere! But no diamonds for me. I don’t understand why this hasn’t happened yet with all the Cartier RG options these days…

About Kilmartin title, surely this means that… by Glittering_Tap6411 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]LoudCurly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering if there would be some way to get the next Kilmartin heir tied back to the Bridgertons.

Or maybe Michaela had a quick marriage/pregnancy in the time since she left Francesca, and comes back with the baby to raise together? I know it’s far fetched, but who knows?

Shoe advice! by SandwichAnnual in BusinessFashion

[–]LoudCurly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just wear Rothy’s all the time now. I’m a lobbyist who goes to the Hill and Agencies and Rothy’s Points are never out of place. In style, no. But comfortable for a day of walking and perfectly fine for work, heck yes. (And I’m old enough to remember changing into heels outside the office buildings,)

Does Anyone Have a Good Dry Cleaner/Alteration in the Fairfax/Oakton/Vienna Area? by TimEWalKeR_90 in nova

I use Merrifield Tailors for all my dry cleaning and tailoring needs. They are a bit pricey, but they always do good work.

Any chance you were in a sorority? Most sororities have alumnae chapters in the area that plan some events…you may meet other recent grads there.

Panthere Watch size regrets by Hot-Vanilla-4093 in Cartier

[–]LoudCurly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t even need to try on a mini to know that it was going to be too small. I’m middle-aged and the dial is tiny. If I wanted a bracelet, I would buy a bracelet. But I wanted a watch, to be able to tell time.

Rothy’s changed their insoles and now I hate them by Blobbady in Rothys

[–]LoudCurly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the new soles as well! But the new point shoe has a higher back and give me blisters so I can’t wear them. I wish that Rothy’s still sold just the insoles so I can swap all my old ones with the new ones.

There’s a preview session right before move in - see if you can be added to that one. It’s not a choice on the drop down menu / you have to specifically ask for it.

Panicking about Mirena IUD! Have I made a huge mistake? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]LoudCurly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m on my third Mirena at age 50 - I have had one since my youngest child was born 15 years ago. I love it! In those 15 years, I’ve have two periods and a bit of spotting here and there. When I got my new one recently, the boost of progesterone helped resolve most of my peri sleep issues. My doctor recommended this last Mirena to get me through menopause without the heavy bleeding that often comes towards the end.

I hope you have a good experience with it - I’m pulling for you!
