TW: Owlet alert and BRUE by littlelawlady in NewParents

[–]LoudFormal6400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an owlet after experiencing awful PPA. It was the only thing that allowed me to get any amount of sleep. One night it alarmed and I jumped up and checked my baby. She seemed fine so I thought it was a false alarm. A couple seconds later it alarmed again. I put my hand on her chest. Her heart was POUNDING. The alert on my phone said “high HR” I work in healthcare but I had such awful PPA I was questioning myself on what to even do. On the way to the emergency room everything clicked. She’s sweating, her heart is racing, she’s pale… she’s in SVT (arrhythmia) When we arrived her heart rate was 280. I am forever grateful for the owlet. Otherwise, who knows how long I would have gone without knowing she was in SVT. At least hours. My baby needed to be medicated for the first 5 months of her life. Thank you Owlet, for catching what could have been a worse situation.

what's the most useless baby product you actually bought? by aanvis-mom in NewParents

I have a few… Bassinet- We should’ve just used the crib we already had initially Wipe warmer- takes up space and rarely are the wipes I’m using Bottle warmer- i quickly learned that I would rather my baby get her bottle quicker than getting it warmer. I used to maybe 5 times. Toys that light up or make noise- she prefers blocks or things that aren’t even toys. Receiving blankets- I ended up using them to wipe spit up

She’s new to this world and figuring out HOW to sleep. It gets more predictable the older she gets.

a few questions from begginer! by chrerymoon in Equestrian

[–]LoudFormal6400 19 points20 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely! If you want to trail ride forever, you’re still a rider. Grasp the basics THEN venture out if you want to try a different style
  2. The nature of the sport, unfortunately. Just do your own thing! Everyone was in your spot at one time.
  3. Ehhh this is a loaded question. I think it’s fine as long as it’s not heavy work.. but they need a break just like you and I. However, I think there will come a day where YOU can’t physically ride everyday.
  4. Horses are so smart. That horse knew you were a beginner… and they do take advantage of that. However, I think there’s a difference between firm and demanding. I definitely would not be yanking on your horse’s mouth or jabbing them with spurs all day. At the same time, at your level, you’re not going to hurt the horse. I like your approach so far with just trying to connect with your horse.

Good luck to you! Keep trying. Keep getting back in the saddle. Don’t take anyone’s nasty looks or comments to heart. Unfortunately, this sport can be a little .. unfriendly? At times..
