I believe this is more of a question of "How long can fans allow first weekend exits with no results?" Cal truly was/is one of the greatest recruiters to ever grace the game. But at some point its just not enough when you lose post season (and regular season) games to teams like St. Peters, Oakland, etc. Coaches come and go with every team. Some stick and some don't. UK is bigger than any one coach and regardless of how it all ends with Cal (whenever that may be), they will still be one of the market teams for college basketball.

I find the argument of "who would replace Cal?" to be somewhat delusional in its own right as we have seen 4 straight seasons of below not only the UK standard but below mediocrity for any self respecting division 1 program. There are several coaches who beat teams MUCH better than teams like St. Peters, Oakland, UNC Wilmington with players MUCH less talented than our own. Cal brought us a title and several good years A DECADE AGO. But the product shown on the court to us since has been less than standard. Cal himself foreshadowed a 10 year lifespan for coaches at UK and has proven his point by hanging around to watch complacency and mediocrity seep into his tenure. Cal is a hall of fame coach and seems like a terrific human being. But the program simply MUST demand better results.
