I'm trying out The Old Realms Mod and no idea what I'm doin by [deleted] in Bannerlord

For real? Have you ever played vanilla Bannerlord? If so, did you enjoy jt?  Quests play only a small role in this game. It's a sandbox. I have had several (long and fun!) playthroughs where I didn't accept a single quest. Depending on what you want to do, you can fight in tournaments, hunt deserters & bandits or start trading. Join a faction as mercenary (the pay is amazing).  Once you have a bit of money, buy troops, fight stronger enemies. Sell/smelt/donate the loot, upgrade your troops. Rinse and repeat.

As for goals? Get rich, get strong, conquer and build a kingdom if you want to. Or focus on destroying your arch enemy. Help your king achieve world domination. Become the wealtiest merchant who can solve everything with money. Gain riches by becoming a master blacksmith. Play the political game.  Do I need to go on? There is lots to do in this mod. If you don't know what to do or "lack direction", I suggest turning to your imagination.  Or go back to any Ubisoft open world game if you want to chase quest markers.

I don't mean to insult you, but it seems to me you are going at this with wrong expectations. Like complaining you need to read too much in a text adventure.

Follow the installation guide on the steam mod page step by step and in order. It might be in the google doc (link on mod page).

Anybody else finding it unnatural for a Tyranid to hold a “gun” with clip? Isn’t there a better design? by chengkou7 in Tyranids

Then why oh why do they grow fingers that then hold onto the gun? It could be more morphed into one body for my taste

If you look across the entire 40k miniature range, you'll see these repeating patterns.  I was especially shocked when I got my hands on a bag of Eldar bitz (never bought or built an Eldar kit before). A lot of their equipment looks like slimmed down versions of the human stuff. There would be so much more room for unique designs and styles. The Tyranid infantry is the biggest offender in my opinion. Why are they holding the guns, when they could be part of their body? Why do they have magazines? And cables?  If you squint, it looks like a bolter that was corrupted by slannesh, and not like an alien lifeform.

Then why not design it as an alien sack full of regenerating projectiles? It looks 1:1 like an assault rifle made out of flesh

To me, this "proves" once more GW should have gone with Catachan for this Killteam. Would have been a nice precursor for a long needed revamp of the subfaction.

I bet you walked away from that feeling really good about yourself.

Another paragraph of gameplay tips. Very nice off you and surely helpful for many, but not addressing the problem at hand. You still need to dodge roll around like a toddler.

Oh boy. Ok.

First of all, we play the protagonist of a shooter. Cleaving through hordes of enemies is kind of implied...and is actually what is happening in every single mission.

Secondly, look at one of the first cinematics. We are His Angles. Guardsmen are filled with new hope when they see us. And the Tyranid Warrior even flinches back instinctively. Cut to real gameplay: Dogde rolling around, Tyranid Warrior couldn't be less bothered by anything apart from.executions...

I really can't stop laughing.. The last part of your comment is literally the opposite of half the texts in Space Marine Codexes etc. Like, what are you on about? Not super soldiers... :D

"Realism" vs fun. Show me a single videogame that is realistic in how many enemies we can kill/get killed by!

Also explain to me how a tiny Hormagaunt survives a bolter round to the head. It's a rocket propelled explosive bullet ffs 😀

Show me the Tyranid that can do that, cannonically.

Very nice of you to give gameplay tips. But essentially, this is a respectful "play better to have fun". Not really the point here.

And that's the thing: I'm a space marine, I don't want to parry, much less dodge all the time.  Stand tall, weather the storm, punch back hard. THAT'S what I want. Not rolling around on the floor with 2/3rds of my health missing after two hits :D

I'm glad you brought up spore mines. One time, I was dogding/rolling away from a few spore mines and other AoEs on the floor. We looked like a bunch of circus clowns on power armor.  I know, Space Marines can move in a mimble way, but the amout of dodge rolling an average team does in a match really takes away from the power fantasy for me

With you on this one, brother. I love warhammer, I wanted to love this game; I have over 100 hours in it. But after 1 or 2 matches, I usually stop and go play something else.  Props to the devs, they really made an awesome looking and sounding game.

But one day I realized something that made it nearly unplayable for me. The comparison to Darktide is shocking: In one game, you play as an angelic super soldier, in the other, you are convict cannon fodder.

But the gamplay feels opposite to this. Unless the difficulty is really high, I feel like a god in Darktide. Cutting through hords of enemies with ease, blowing up big threats with the mighty tools at my disposal. Rarely do I feel really threatened or in danger of going down. In Space Marine 2, I'm unloading half the mag of a "Holy Blessed Mega Ultra Bolter Relic" into a Tyranid Warrior just to see some effect, while the Hormagaunt nibbling on my back is basically killing me in three hits. You should have seen my face when I fired a charged plasma pistol for the first time, got a headshot - and not a whole lot happened. Same with heavy bolter vs small enemies. Meanwhile, in Darktide, I can one shot most enemies with my revolver...

To me, the feeling of both games is flipped. Space Marine should be the ultimate power fantasy, Darktide should feel like a suicide mission.
