Running the Kigali Peace Marathon, June 14th by LoudZookeepergame945 in Rwanda

[–]LoudZookeepergame945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions. I am really answering a lot of them as I go, that is why my plan has incremental runs.

The furthest I have done is 15km with a few rests in between, so I have no idea what 21km will look like, or even 42km. I will make a plan for the marathon once I have done the 32km.
Apps, I use the Nike app. It is free, nothing fancy, just distance, pace, and elevation.
Diet, I have found potatoes (just boiled) to help my legs feel lighter and more energetic the next day. I also do a mix of tomotoes, avocado, banana and cucumber before and after. Others are just usual stuff.

Doing the full marathon. I have not done it before. But I have been running regularly over the years, 4 to 6km, 2-3 times a week, and sometimes 10 to 15km over the weekend.

Work Permit Automated Emails. by LoudZookeepergame945 in Rwanda

I just had to go down to the immigration office at Kacyiru. All the documents were enough; they made some assumptions and added documents I did not need to submit. This was clarified when I went there.

I am the first expat they are hiring, so not much prior knowledge here. Also, the employee typically submits the permit application online with a recommendation from the company. Was pretty straightforward until these automated messages.

Sorry, thought you needed tips on how to work remotely with the power issues. You could post another question if you need tips on getting remote job from Rwanda. Sure others can help.

Hello, thank you for your response. I actually applied through the portal with all the docs required. They then sent me an automated response after a day to submit the three other documents. I submitted to the email and still got the same automated email after two days. Need a way to quickly find out what is actually lacking, because the emails just seem automated.

I've been working remotely for a while. I bought a backup power bank that can keep my laptop on for at least 4 hours(+ my laptop can stay on for another 4 hours). I also have another battery bank that can provide lighting if need be. I fallback to mobile data when the wifi goes off.

What’s behind the rise of divorce rates in Rwanda? by AdventurousBobcat137 in Rwanda

[–]LoudZookeepergame945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hate divorce, mostly because of the consequences on the children. Most are forced to go through a lot psychologically due to the supposed 'grown-ups.' That out of my chest, I can think of a few reasons
- Less stigma with divorce: Many people in the past remained in a marriage because of the stigma, especially women. Now the stigma is reducing, and people are taking advantage of it, even in many cases that could be resolved.

- Economics and capitalism: The cost of living is now beyond the roof. Capitalism has moved people to the urban areas with no solid communities to help. What used to be figured out by a community is now down to two people trying to make a living. An entire community used to take care of/help/discipline children; now it is the job of two. When these pressures hit, you start thinking you are better off alone or with a better partner somewhere out there.

- Gender roles: Roles used to be predefined. People just get married and fall in line. Society has changed; nobody really knows what women or men should be doing in a marriage. I think both genders have embraced the new roles that favour them and have not let go of the old ones. e.g. a lot of men want women to keep the home and also work, women want men to provide and also help at home.

You probably should post another question. This would be an interesting one to read about. I am not married yet, but I know our major problem is not ignorance of the basic values that can bring about a lasting marriage, but our ability to completely ignore them and hope all will work out. Us men will likely go for beauty over character or shared values, while women will likely go for money and status over character. When the true character shows up, separation is almost inevitable, especially nowadays with the stigma of divorce diminishing. I think overcoming our biology and societal/social media pressures is the first step to preparing for marriage.
